Bucket.....Like the "First Nephew" handle for Mr. Robinson.....so should it be while he is at Wes.   Could not resolve the first name...Duncan vs. Avery......guess a mistake like mine could/have caused world conflicts.
Anyway....an interesting fact that may lead to some discussion among the speculators on this board.....Coach Luke Flockerzi of the U. of Rochester was a BB players at Grinnell College.  Have not done the math....but he could have played in the "Grinnell" system there.  Would be interesting to have his take on the system....and reasons that he has not incorporated the system on players that he has coached.
Madz...with your connection/knowledge could you confirm whether Coach Luke played under the system.
Ethelred....were there ever any interviews by Luke that he made any comments about the Grinnell system?  Why....this board has discussed the Grinnell System to death!  Maybe a good topic during this brief down time.

35 1/2 points is a lot for the Thunder to spot Williamstown Elementary School. I take the points and Lyndon.

Frank.....good pick!  but are we talking about the same school?  The school in VT is known as the Hornets....now.  If so, Midd. with R. Sharry only beat them by 32 in 2012.
Walzy.....Could your soccer team mates shoot?  I know they can jump and the goalie has quick hands.  I believe my Frat. BB team had taller players.......we did have the freshman center on the team at 6'9", the Andover Prep captain at 6'4"(played on the freshman team), shooting guard who played on the varsity at 6'2" and a 6'4", 6'5", etc. PG me was the shortest player....but quick.

You are still quick Amh63 - if only mentally!

Walzy - I will take Williams to cover and the under.

Height is not everything, even in basketball. If you exclusively give me the whole of New England from which to recruit unencumbered by any considerations such as finances, age, character or academics, I could put together a basketball team comprised completely of under 6 footers, which would run through a NESCAC schedule like a huge overdose of castor oil through your correspondent.

Old Guy

Flockerzi graduated from Grinnell in 2001. Dave Arsenault has been running "the system" at Grinnell for 23 years.

Old Guy

Middlebury beat Castleton tonight, 54-38. Last year, it was 97-71, as Castleton played a version of "the system." No longer.

No video. Live stats. Lynch had a big game, unstoppable, 11-12 from the floor, 23 points.

Amherst up 13 now against Wes with 5:22 left. Wes was up at the half.

Bucket

Middlebury had easily its worst offensive game of the year in a 54-38 win over Castleton.

Peter Lynch scored 23 on 11-12 shooting. The rest of the team managed just 33 percent from the floor, 25 percent from 3 (4-16), and 44 percent from the free throw line (4-9). Ugly.

Of course, Castleton struggled even more: 38 pts on 34 percent shooting and a miserable 4-20 from 3. I didn't see the game, but I'll just assume this putrid output was due to Midd's lockdown D :)

Let's just file away the win, chalk up this abnormal outing to a statistical anomaly, and hope that the Panthers got the offensive blues out of their system.

Big NESCAC games on the horizon.

Was anyone so foolish as to take Lyndon plus 35 1/2?

The Wes/Amh game was sloppy for both teams with tight officiating both ways (lots of ticky tack fouls...although no key players were ever in foul trouble for either team). Wes committed to taking away Toomey as an option in the first half and it worked pretty well as they took a 3pt lead at the half (should have been 7 but Kalema had two great steals for breakaways). Amherst hit four threes in the first four mins of the second half after making some offensive adjustments and Wes chased the rest of the way. Sha had a 7 pt spurt in about 30 seconds to cut the lead to six with a minute left. Toomey/Workman/Kalema made FTs to close it out.

Really an ugly game. Didn't get much out of it. I think I have watched 7 of the last 8 Wes/Amh matchups and this one was the tightest each team played the other's stars. I say that and then look to see Sha finished with 22 pts and 7 boards...but he took 19 shots and made 8 free throws. He's gonna get his 15-25 some how. Hell of a player.

Amherst beats Wes. 68-60 tonight at home.  I believe the last 8 points from both sides were from the foul line.  Was wondering if Amherst would cover Walzy's spread most of last 3 minutes.  It was Amherst taking a 5-6 point lead in the first half until the Cardinals got hot and led 32-29 at the half.  Aaron Toomey who had 23 points  in the game that counted....had no points at the half.  S. Brown and Callaghan had 11 and 12 at the half.  Amherst came out in the 2nd half and scored the first 11 points or so and held a 8-13 point lead for most of the 2nd half.  Amherst played great defense and in the last 3-4 minutes it was foul shots by Wes. and layups by Amherst as Toomey and Kalema passed to big Pete down low.  Finally Wes. started fouling Amherst to get the ball.  The Cardinals would drive to the basket....and S. Brown would get a foul and make foul shots.  They would even taken outside shots....making one to cut the lead.  Aaron would handle the ball and get fouled/mugged, whatever.  When Toomey threw it to another player like Kalema, the Cardinals would rush the player for a foul.  Anyway...S. Brown led all scorers with 22 points and had 7 rebounds.  Killian, Kalema and Toomey all had 8-9 points with Workman, Kaasila, and Green getting double figure points.  Amherst was out rebounded by Wes. 42-36.  Each team shot 29 foul shots.
The video feed was fine but there was no vocal..."technical difficulties"  The game was not bad without sound....like an old film.
The stats and recap will be posted soon on the website with more accurate and impartial info.  I guess the 2nd meeting of top guards would lean towards S. Brown....who made 7-19 shots and went 8-9 from the foul line and had at least 7 rebounds.  Aaron Toomey made 1-5 shots, the one a 3-point shot and had 6 assists.  Brown had to carry the Cardinals on offense, while Toomey just distributed the ball and let his team mates score.  It was that kind of a game....Amherst won!
boy. can't read the stats correct....corrections made, I hope.

Middfan

Took the short trip down Route 30 to watch Middlebury visit Castleton.  Had the pleasure to sit in front of Castleton's President Dave Wolk who also happens to be a fraternity brother of mine at Midd from back in the day.  (By the way Old Guy, I'm sure that we were really innocent at least one of the times you suspended us!).  Wolk has done an amazing job in developing the school firmly establishing it as the #2 state option.

This was an ugly game which was certainly the goal of the Spartans.  Clearly, Coach Culpo's plan was to keep the ball out of the hands of the Panthers.  They did this on virtually every posession by simply holding the ball just over midcourt unchallenged or in an easy weave until the 5-7 second mark on the shot clock before trying to make a play.  Ultimately, they scored only 38 points and gave an ice cold, uninspired, out-of rhythm Middlebury team many fewer chances to score.  For Middlebury, it seemed like everyone shot under 30% except for Lynch who could score at will.  Give credit to Castleton for playing hard defense and to "local boy" Senior guard Matt Comstock for having a great game scoring a strong 16 points with Thompson guarding him much of the time.

It's in the book as a W.  The Panthers might drop another place in the rankings with two (possible) wins this week.

Maine-Man

The University of Maine-Farmington men's basketball team knocked off Bowdoin for the first time since 1999 with a 66-62 win tonight. Tough weekend ahead as Bowdoin travels to Amherst and Trinity.
