Agreed.  For the amount of information we get from Pat, Dave and crew; I should have to pay a lot.  Happy to send them money but would like to add.....Thanks SO much, guys.  My winter would be even more worserer without you.

There are different levels at which one can contribute and Dave has offered some perks for each level. I chose the slam dunk level, since my size, as Vandy and middhoops will attest, has prevented me from ever getting one of those in a game. But whatever level you choose remember this: As fans of D3 basketball we're all better off because Hoopsville exists.
Well that's kind of how I feel about Hoopsville. So lets all pitch in.

Happy to contribute to such a worthy cause magicman.  I'm sure others feel the same way.  Besides, I need another t-shirt.  As for that dunk, I think if one of us stood on the other's shoulders we might be able to pull it off.  Maybe. :-\ ;)

Middhoops.......there you go again....you are truly unique wrt "phrases" :)
Surfing the net to amuse myself...snowed in and am tired with moving snow around.  See the Panthers blew a team out and scored 0ver 90 points.
Bowdoin goes out and tramples a college on an island?  Really, should pick on someone your size :)
Colby wins tonight.....while Hamilton blows a 19 point halftime lead only to pray for a tie at the end of the game.  Game into OT against neighbor Elmira.
Even checked in on SUNY-Plattsburgh...after being reminded by Magicman that Amherst was outplayed by the Cardinals in the 2nd half last season in a 2nd round NCAA game in LeFrak....how the mind forgets such things.
Finished off the night with a nice Amherst produced video of the two wins over Williams in Amherst.  Amherst travels to Williamstown on Wednesday.  Coach Hixon states that he only has to remind the players that it 's a Williams game.....and this team is up.  Hope they are also focused..

So happy to see some of the CAC faithful shed some green. Good job guys. I know Dave is extremely appreciative each and every time someone makes a contribution. It makes you feel good to be a part of this. I know I did. 8-)

Hope more guys step up to the plate.

Pleasant conversation with amh63 by telephone this afternoon. Almost an hour talking hoops and hoopsville. Plus K to him and my other friends as soon as the time will allow. ;D

I don't know how many posters on this page watch Hoopsville. Maybe some of you do so on a regular basis, maybe you only do so when a NESCAC coach is on, or just the coach of the team you support, but it is a great place to enhance your D3 knowledge about what's going on in other parts of the country.  If you can't watch it when it airs, usually on Thursday and Sunday nights you can always replay it at a more convenient time. You can find the links on the front page.

Dave McHugh is currently in the midst of a Hoopsville fundraiser so he can upgrade the equipment, make the video production better, take more road trips and maybe visit a college near you. I know that a lot of people on this board tune in to Hoopsville. I'm sure as D3fans we all would like to see the show continue and improve. We now have the opportunity to help out with a contribution that will benefit us all. Kind of like a public television contribution.

I wouldn't want Dave to have to close up shop. None of us will benefit if that happens. I remember not so long ago that the D3hoops site crashed one night and it took a day or so before Pat and staff could put the pieces back together. The D3 world, from coast to coast, was in mourning and some of us were downright strung out, because we didn't have access to the one place we could go to and no one knew what was going on. A huge sigh of relief was heard when the site was up and running again and posters all over the place were stating the obvious...what would happen if there were no more D3hoops to go to?

Well that's kind of how I feel about Hoopsville. So lets all pitch in, from the posters down in the DC and Virginia area that love their NESCAC teams, to the posters out west who still come on the boards and tune into Hoopsville. Then of course, there's all the fans in the New England region that could make a huge impact if they all gave a contribution at just the $10.00 level. That's less than you'd spend if you bought Dave a couple of drinks at the local watering hole if he showed up at your gym to do a live interview with your coach.

Think about it fellow posters but don't take too long. The Hoopsville Fundraising Project runs from now through February 9th, 2014

Thanks for your attention, now back to our regularly scheduled program.

Magic,

Well stated, I contributed after watching Coach Geitner on Hoopsville a couple of days ago. I did not know about the fundraiser, until I tuned in to watch  Hoopsville the other night.  D3Hoops, Baseball, Soccer has given me enormous pleasure over the last 7 yrs, (all free of charge), and the web site(s) deserve to be funded properly!!!!

ECSUalum,
I saw where you had pitched in. Plus K for you as well.  I meant to do so and then got sidetracked until I read your post on the Little East board, which reminded me to do so.

We have a young fellow over on the East region boards who I think is around 14 or 15. I was looking at the list of contibutors and it looks like he put his hard earned allowance?... or paper route money?... to good use as he came in with a Slam Dunk contribution.

Amherst has posted a nice preview of the Williams game tonight on the athletic site.  IMO, a fair informative summary of both teams/players.  Also linked to the writeup are photos of the earlier game and the video, I mentioned in an earlier post.  I am somewhat backwards wrt to providing a link here.
The photos explained to me why the games in LeFrak were relative quiet...besides the lower number of students.  Amherst's Prez is seen sitting in the lower row of the student section....she played BB in high school and likes good college BB.  More "older" folks/parents all around in the stands.  Local community folks enjoy the winter games.  Remember talking to some from Williamstown as I left the gym...non Williams' graduates as they were most respectful of Amherst College :)..still Eph fans though.  The games do attract followers.  A couple whose son was a fine pitcher on the Amherst baseball team a while back came up and said hello.  The couple lives in Pittsfield...near Williamstown.  I worked with the father well over a decade ago.  The couple goes to all the Williams vs. Amherst events when they can.  Enjoyed the reunion...their son has just come back from China.

+1 grabtherim - great story.  I have been a Hauschka guy all year and just recently found out about the Middlebury connection!

NEhoops

Old Guy, I agree that Bates isn't in any position to make the claim that they are too young. The Trinity game was a surprise and in some cases a "trap" game coming off the win at Mid and maybe looking ahead to Amh. Trinity has been playing well and maybe they're the better team, but an effort like that, at home, is uncharacteristic of the Bobcats. I think it was a combination of Trinity peaking at the right time and a letdown from a leadership standpoint. The teams that can stay consistent for the rest of the season are going to be successful, especially this year in such a wide open league.

Interesting side note, Bates beat Husson last night on the road 79-58. Husson entered the game as one of five unbeaten teams in Division III men's basketball. Another feather in the cap for the NESCAC.

NEhoops...good points.  Still if one looks at the stats on the teams to date...found on the CAC website...as I did recently for the first time...it still is surprising to me that Trinity leads the conference in many defensive related statistics.  Though not a big stats fan/guy it does point out that Trinity can/ does stop players and slows down offenses.
Maybe Madz can give us a "reading" of the stats with respect to the Bantams.

Thanks, much appreciated. It's hard to imagine sometimes that we've been at this for 16 years. Soon the incoming freshmen will have been around for a shorter period of time. It's still a lot of fun to do. :)

Here is the latest Williams basketball show, including interviews with first years Duncan Robinson and MIke Greenman.  There are some highlights from the Bowdoin and Colby games, which are in large part a lot of Robinson highlights.  Maker as usual doesn't say much but he does note the effectiveness of the Williams zone defense in recent weeks, which I agree with.  It has definitely made great strides since the start of the season, but I still think it is best in relatively small doses, at least at this point in the season.

http://www.willinet.org/content/williams-college-basketball-show-12114

As usual Maker didn't say much of anything too informative, although he did note that first-years Aronowitz and Greenman will continue to play more, playing time they have certainly earned based on the spark they provided this weekend.  He also noted that Mike Mayer is as close to 100 percent as he has been all year, although he still is not quite all the way back.

Should be an electric atmosphere in Chandler tonight!  Williams will need Robinson and Mayer to continue their strong play from this weekend, and will need a few other guys to step up and have more charactertistic games.  It would really help if some of the young guys can provide the scoring punch off the bench, which has been lacking in big games.  Being a mid-week Winter Study game, barring foul trouble the key guys for both teams, who should each be fresh, will likely be playing 37-40 minutes each, I imagine.

Looks like a packed house with a very hyped crowd in Williamstown.

Connor Green is playing for Amherst.  Unfortunately for the Ephs Hayden Rooke-Ley is out.  Mike Greenman is starting.  Huge stage for the diminutive frosh for his first start.  He will have to contend with two talented, aggressive senior Amherst guards.  Talk about trial by fire!

Look out, NESCAC, Michael Mayer appears to be back.  As a Midd fan, I can't say I'm thrilled about the timing.  Ephs with a 3 pt lead well into the first half.

nescac1

Ephs were playing really great for the first ten minutes, and then Amherst took total control late in the half.  Mayer looks back to his old self and his been great but no one else on Williams has done much.  Ephs are really, really cold from three and Robinson and Epley need to starting hitting the good looks (for them) that they have gotten.  Williams also did too much one-on-one stuff after starting the game getting easy looks through ball movement.  Epley just can't buy a shot right now with two clean looks rattling in and out.  Williams is going to need to pick up the scoring because the Jeffs' are consistently abusing them with guards finding open guys rolling to the basket.  Pollack continues to be an Eph-killer as he has a knack for cutting to the rim and is a great finisher, and he also had the play of the game with a gorgeous behind the back assist.  If there is a better back-up center in the country, I'd love to see him ...  Toomey is Toomey and as usual has dominated the action with his shooting and dishing.
