Amh, answered your question about Dartmouth over on the LEC board.

Old Guy

Great to see Brian Hurley on the floor!

Agreed. It will be interesting, however, to see how Coach Gilbride works him into the line-up. Bowdoin has put together a mighty nice season to date with the group they have, with Mathias being the revelation at the point. If NESCAC had an unsung hero award, he'd get it. We all thought Bowdoin was screwed with Hurley out. Mathias has been invaluable, seems to me.

Bates has something of the same issue with Matarazzo's return, affecting Safford's role bringing the ball up, though it strikes me Safford can move effectively to the 2 guard spot. Similarly, I was somewhat concerned that Sinnickson's return would affect Merryman's minutes and play for Middlebury, but this too was rendered moot: with Daley being out, there are minutes to go around at the 3-4-5 spots.

The older I get, the more I believe in the importance of this team phenomenon we inadequately call "chemistry."

For those Vermont based poster who may also follow UVM basketball, check out WPI 89's last post to me on the LEC board concerning a freshman player that is contributing to the UVM's season.  WPI89 kids attend the same HS as two star players on last year's team.  WPI sent one to Amherst and the other to UVM..I refer to him as my Amherst "recruiter".  Amherst's player is Racy, a 6'5" player who was the outside sharp shooter at Ridgefield HS in CT.  The UVM FY is bigger and more of an front court player.

Old Guy...good observations...Team Chemistry...have not heard that term used for awhile.  Surprised a little that you brought it up being a Humanities person :D

AmherstS05...maybe you should start  booking the moving company.for a particular Freshman at Williams.   Did see the long shot from New Hampshire.  One must point out that there was no one guarding the Eph...near him..within a 10 feet radius.  Therefore, why take such a shot.  More impressed with his running the floor to catch a long pass and make a layup..in a break away.

Old Guy - I couldn't agree more but I don't this will become a big issue for Bowdoin.  While t was really heartening to see Hurley back in action last night I don't think he'll be ready to move into the starting rotation any time soon.  As he continues to progress he'll add depth and flexibility at PG.

For those wondering how "The Road to Salem" producers would handle Middlebury's mid-season struggles, look no further than the recently released Part IV, perhaps the series' best episode yet:

Great video... Wonderful interviews and a passionate halftime speech. Makes me want to put shorts on and rebound.

Great job by the kids on the latest episode.  Leave it to Russ Reilly to say the right thing at the right time in no uncertain terms.  To know Russ is not only to like him but more telling is to "respect" him.

TheHerst2and4

That series has been phenomenal; really well done.
Interesting to have a somewhat inside (albeit edited) perspective of team dynamics, personalities, and coaching styles and how different they can be from other programs. Awesome stuff guys.

FYI , the Amherst vs RIC game will have a webcast at 7pm....coming out of LeFrak.  Link is on the Amherst athletic section of the web site.  At present no link on the Nescac or the D3hoop sites.  D3 site get's the info from the conference site which on these matters are again underperforming.  Need to send the org. a note on the situation....really!

I have nothing to add beyond what has already been said here.  Another fine job.  It comes as no surprise that Russ has the knack for saying the right thing at the right time.  I'm also impressed that like me he cuts his own hair.  I've received endless compliments on the job I do.  That is what "I could tell." means, right?

Amh63.......I couldn't find the post you mention here (LEC=Little East?) but there have been a few others referred to on this board as well that I can't find either.  Not sure what the problem might be.  Sometimes the answer to that question is "me".  Anyway, I was able to determine the UVM player is Kurt Steidl who is having a fine season as a fy.  The local radio station covers the UVM games and I do follow the Catamounts.  6.5 ppg averaging 15.5 minutes.  He's played in all 21 games and started twice.  21-23 from the stripe and 28-56 from 3-point land.  The kid's a stud.  UVM's basketball success should continue for a few years at least.

middhoops

I'm a Vermont basketball ticket holder.  Posted earlier on the NEWMAC discussion.  Steidl is UVM's best outside threat.  Jeff Brown judged Steidl and Duncan Robinson as co-equals in his recruiting status two years ago.  Truth be told, Robinson would be a stud at the lower D1 level, as Steidl will certainly be.

Just checked in on the Amherst - RIC webcast.  All tied up at halftime: 36 - 36
