Amen to OG.
Amen to nescac1.

Speaking of questionable uses of time...

I've fired up my advanced stats generator again this year. As always, these are only stats from NESCAC play, so it's a small sample size. Nevertheless, here are the top-10 in estimated wins added:

Aaron Toomey, Amherst, 2.08
John Swords, Bowdoin, 2.04
Hunter Sabety, Tufts, 1.91
Michael Mayer, Williams, 1.68
Duncan Robinson, Williams, 1.61
Mason Lopez, CC, 1.56
Matt Hart, Hamilton, 1.46
Dylan Sinnickson, Midd, 1.31
Mike Boornazian, Bates, 1.19
Chris Hudnut, Colby, 1.18

Quick observations:
Really impressive to see two freshman in the top 5. Mayer and Robinson are really doing an incredible job for Williams; if Epley and co heat up they could be still be among the toughest teams in the country. Notable also for those who are not included: Connor Green, Taylor Epley and Joey Kizel. Kizel is not too far back, and Green is not far behind him, but Epley actually has a negative EWA, meaning he has played below the level of a replacement player.

Interesting analysis, Lafrakenstein.

Other than Toomey, not a point guard in the bunch. After Hart, not really any twos either, Boornazian, Sinnickson, Robinson being swing guys, more threes than twos, no? Any reason for that in your calculations?

Old Guy....not to beat an old horse to death...topic, not you...an expression :)  We are Not communicating here.  I agreed on your point that Hixon is not interested in the job NOW....see my post.  At the time when Sheely moved up to AD, Hixon was the acting AD at Amherst and probably had put his hat in the ring at the time.....was it 15 years ago?  He was a younger person with young sons and money was more a factor.  He now holds the position of Sr. Associate AD and is still listed as the HBC.  More money, sons older, etc.  His oldest son is a diver of note and is a freshman on the swimming team at the Un. of Texas, in Austin.  His wife is a swim coach at  UMass down the street..working with divers, etc....maybe the head coach there..do not know.  In short, some info that he may have less interest in the AD job.  However, when a position becomes opened, there is a selection process to follow along with a time period....therefore the "interim" title of the present AD.  Enough on the topic.

Lefrank....sorry to hear about your dings...negative karma points.  I will try to cover for you.  Over the last few weeks, I have noticed dings too.  It caused me to think  an old "friend" was returning again on Amherst posters.  Since I have been posting much more,  my posts may have started the childish behavior again and therefore you are impacted.  My apology to you if it is the cause.

No reason, although typically bigs do better (due to their high rebound rates and FG%). I apply the same position-adjustment that the ESPN formula does, but it probably doesn't go far enough.

I was surprised to see that despite that, David George has not done well, with a PER of just 9.84. His rebound rate is just 12.19%, much lower than many bigs and even some pgs (including Ben Ferris, who every year I've kept track has had the highest rebounding rate among guards). He's also only shooting 43% from the field, which is really low for a guy who pretty much exclusively takes shots near the basket.

It also might just be a down year for point guards. Last year Toomey, Ferris and Kizel were all in the top 5.

Here are the top 10 in true shooting % (at least 3 shots per game):

Jack Mackey, Wes, 86.11%
Duncan Robinson, williams, 83.23%
Hunter Sabety, tufts, 67.13%
Luke Westman, Colby, 67.09%
John Swords, bowdoin, 66.84%
Mason Lopez, CC, 66.61%
Shane Rodgers, 64.14%
BJ Davis, Wes, 63.86%
Aaron Toomey, Amherst, 62.54%
David Kalema, Amherst, 61.69%

Some notes:

Duncan Robinson is killing it. He and Mackey are alone at the top, and he's taken way more shots than Mackey. Daniel Wohl led this category at roughly 72% last year, so he's basically 10% ahead of everyone in the entire league for the past two years while taking a high volume of shots and being a freshman. Insane.

Kalema is shooting really well after starting poorly.

While St. Amour's conventional numbers don't look great, his high volume of threes and fts in relation to his overall attempts put him at a safely-above-average 59.11%, so I guess I owe some people an apology from earlier this year.

Mayer is down to 57.81% which, while still good, is nearly 10% behind where he was last year. He's already been one of the 5 best players in the league this year, if he can regain last year's form down the stretch, that would be an excellent development for williams. Wohl, who led the league last year at 72-ish% is down to 54.71% this year, another sign that Williams has the potential to play much better than they have been.

Mason Lopez has great stats. Shooting at a high %, very few turnovers and a ton of steals. I wonder if he has any shot at an all-NESCAC team. I haven't looked at his season-long numbers.

Lefrank......where is Matt Hart in your last post on shooting?  The top point man in the conference.

Just outside the top ten; 60.46%. Super impressive given how much he shoots.

Middhoops.....was watching the 2nd half as UW-SP surges back from a 12 point half.  Got bored with the play.  Will be interesting to read your impressions wrt to the two teams.  Check in on your comments tomorrow,  Going to look in on a Div 1 game with another Bennett coaching.

Battle of Wisconsin.
Whitewater outlasts undefeated UWSP in OT.  These teams are both VERY good.
I'd expect UWSP to go very deep in the tourney, Whitewater to win a couple games.
Tough league they play in.
Sorry, amh63, no deep thought offered here.
Vandy, I know you're still awake.  I hope you watched this one.

All the more impressive given he has often been the sole focus of opposing teams defenses.

Also, Amherst's senior class needs just one more win to have 100 for their career. The last Amherst class to get 100 wins was the class of 2009.

Midd's 2013 class ended up at 104-14, .882 winning pct.  I don't see an archive on the Amherst website.  Anyone have the overall record for 2014 LJs?

There is a fairly comprehensive archive on the Amherst Athletics website.  I believe our Class of 2014 currently stands at 99-12.
