Lots of new folks to the board lately -- must be playoff time!

pjunito, I think you underestimate Babson -- I think if they beat Springfield, they will be near the top of the Pool C list, and even if they don't, they will almost certainly be higher than around 17-18.  I also think WPI is a near-lock for a bid with another win.  Springfield and Bowdoin are both clinging to the edge of the bubble, however.

lordofthejeffs, Killian-George is a good comparison, although I still like Killian-Marion, both very athletic wing players, good rebounders, excellent defenders who do a little bit of everything, and both have unorthodox-looking but effective three-point shots.

Here is a nice article about future Eph Cole Teal:

I think you got those Pool C teams correct as of today

FYI...again...latest info on tickets......on the Amherst website there is a preview of this weekend games...sort off.  In any case there are ticket info.  Price of tickets for this year...remain 5 bucks for adults.   Only the first 100 Amherst students with ID get in free.   Trying to be nice, I guess to the guests.

Bucket....seems that Amherst doesn't charge as much as Middlebury! :)   Draw your own conclusions ;D

A comeback!!   I wondered when Bucket's statement would get one. Sounds like there might be a slight difference of opinion when Bucket, Vandy, middhoops and amh63 get together for those brewskis on Saturday. Be careful amh63, you're outnumbered 3-1 and they're younger. You best bring some Lord Jeff buddies along. ;D

nescac, I hope you are right, would love to see more NE teams in the NCAAs.

Hey nescac1,

I think that as long teams ranked high in other regions win the AQ (Pool A bids) than it will help get 3 Pool C bids for New England. But, if there are upsets and Babson losses in the NEWMAC tournament, they will block teams below them. I don't think they stack up well agaisnt other regions and might be the 17 or 18 team picked in Pool C. This could hurt getting Bowdoin into the tournament.

You are definitely underestimating these NE teams. Especially Babson. Assuming there are not a TON of upsets I think Babson is a very safe at large bid, regardless of what they do this weekend. I think the NE is very deep and will get 4 at Pool C bids this year

pjunito

I hope you are right, no major upsets, and those strong Pool C candidates win their conference tournaments. However, I don't think NE is as strong as it has been in the past. When's the last time the NESCAC had less than 3 teams go to the NCAAs tournament? That could potentially happen this year.

Just a couple of years ago, actually.

In 2012, only Middlebury and Amherst went to the tournament. It was a freakishly down year for Williams (finished 7th in the conference), and the third-place team, Wesleyan, found itself on the wrong side of the tourney bubble on selection Monday.

Odds n Ends comments...more reflective on my part as I close down my posting for awhile.
Last site report....there will be a women's hockey game next door on Sat....starting at 1 pm.  Maybe some impact on parking for BB games.  Colby vs Amherst quarter final game.  Only charging 3 bucks for adults and a buck for kids...Nescac charges.  What are they charging for the game in Middlebury?

Tried watching some D3 games last night..Mary Washington versus St. Mary's of Md...in particular.  Both are/ were ranked teams...saw the Middlebury vs St. Mary game early in the season at Stevenson.  Became disinterested very quickly...held on to see why St. Mary was playing so poorly..coach sat down all his starters for awhile and re asserted them just before the half.  Mary Washington eventually won a close game...3rd close game between the two teams..I read today. Maybe I am "CAC" bias...I found the game hard to watch...no outstanding players and no strong defensive effort, IMO.  Maybe it was watching the game on-line..missing things.  Left wondering why these teams were highly ranked during the season.  Biased opinion? Probably.  This was a tournament game!  Coach has to sit his starters in a key game?  Reflective game in a way.

Even went to see last season's D3 rankings at week 12 and compared them with this season's ranking. Remember the 8 teams that went to Salem last year...3 NESCAC teams.  What stuck out was where the OTHER five "elite eight" teams were ranked or NOT ranked at week 12.  Reflective moment during this period of sem- final games and NCAA selections to come on Monday.

Decided to just read posts today...listen to Willy and Sharry.. And put away my computer for the weekend.  Enjoy some live games with good company and fight the weather. :)

It looks like Middhoops and I will be no-shows at Amherst tomorrow.  I will be watching online.  Congratulations Magicman on Plattsburgh's 73-69 semi finals win over SUNY Geneseo tonight. 11 ties, 20 lead changes. Fine overall effort from John Perez who went 10-13 from the line including the two that iced the game.  18 points, 6 assists and 4 steals.  Sounds  a lot like what the Panthers could use from Kizel tomorrow.  Good luck to Middlebury against Williams as they try to extend their season.  A very winnable game, imo.

Let me add my congrats to Plattsburgh and magicman.
amh63, it's not Vandy's fault if we miss you on Saturday.  It's not completely to his credit if we see you on Sunday.
To the Midd Sr. parents: we really hope to see you on Sunday.  You have been kinder and more generous to a couple old basketball junkies than we ever could have dreamt of.  Best people ever.

Thanks Vandy and middhoops,

It was a nice effort from a shorthanded Plattsburgh team. Missing the two leading scorers wasn't a recipe for success but the Cardinals got it done. John Perez, in addtion to his 18 points, 6 assists and 4 steals that Vandy quoted, also had 13 rebounds to get another double-double.

Sorry to hear that you guys won't be making the trip to Amherst. If the Panthers lose I'm blaming you guys. ??? I can't even watch the game online since my Cardinals are tipping off at the same time. I'll be switching back and forth when I can though. Good luck and plus K.

Leaving now to head up to Amherst.  Looking forward to some good basketball today. Go Jeffs!

@lordofthejeffs:

good comparisons- I especially liked the Connor Gach/Kyle Korver one.

However, I'd have to disagree with the Tom Killian/Paul George comparison you made.  My contention is that Killian's game, especially on the offensive end, and career trajectory falls in line with that of Chandler Parsons'.  Though in my mind, Killian is a much better defender and rebounder than Parsons, which lends credence to your Paul George comparison, you can't deny the parallels between Killian and Parsons offensively. They're both great three point shooters, spread the floor effectively and solid players around the rim (not to mention good looking :))

Predictions for today's game: Trinity 54 Amherst 75- it's hard to bet against the jeffs on their home court, just hoping my ephs can pull through today and upset Amherst's Nescac title bid.

madzillagd

Trinity giving it all they got but just too difficult to stay up with Amherst when you don't have anybody that can shoot the 3.  Toomey is 5-8 from 3 but guys still go under screens against him, makes no sense.  Trinity has to get out on Toomey or they will struggle in the 2nd half.

Not loving a lot of the calls in this game either.  Looked like some clean blocks underneath and/or some blocking calls that were really unnecessary but that's coming from a webcast viewer so who knows if that is true in person.
