This is not meant to comment on Killian, but are you off on Kizel.  In the season just completed, Joe established career season highs in scoring average, assists, rebounds and steals.  Full disclosure, Joe had 6 more turnovers than his previous season high, but with Wolfin and Thompson not there, and him handling the ball that much more, fair to say that it was not unexpected.  So you are correct, the recognition he gets is all about what he's done in the past, as long as the past stopped being measured three weeks ago.

people seem to take kizel's side because of what he's done in the past. It's like voting for kobe Bryant for the ASG over Damien lillard because of Kobe's past accomplishments rather than his season numbers.

Enjoyed the Hoopsville rant by Dave at the very end of the show.  Maker & Mayer were both interviewed as well.  Obviously you couldn't see all the antics of the bench during the AMC game from the video feed but I did see quite a bit of them.  I was very surprised the refs were as patient as they were and I think at one point in the 2nd half the AMC coach seemed irate at the fact that he wanted to get a tech and they wouldn't reward him with one - sort of an odd power play by the refs to not give in (and I brilliant move I thought).

Nice.  I think I'd add John Weinheimer in there for Williams.  He actually gets more minutes that McCreary usually. F  6'7 / 188

Titan Q...thanks for the info.  My quick review seems to have an error on the table for Tom Killian of Amherst.  Killian has presently a 6.3 RPGs ...rebounds average.  Cannot find the number you have inserted in the stat  on the Amherst website.  Did not check the other numbers for the other players.  Tom's number for RPGs just jumped out to me as an error.    Again, thanks for your effort.

Just voicing an opinion, is all.  No expectation that it will influence you, or anyone else, to support him -- all I ask is that it doesn't influence you in the other direction, either.

My thoughts exactly when I read that. The only person who gets punished in that scenario is the kid

An interesting note about the recent play of Michael Greenman is that in the last 9 games, he has only 3 turnovers. Given how much he now plays, and how much of the ball handling job he has, that is pretty spectacular. Interestingly, all 3 turnovers occurred in the same game - Mitchell. Greenman has shown that he belongs. He will be a great player for Williams over the next 3 years.

Agree with madzillagd that the rant by the host at the end of the latest Hoopsville is well worth watching ....Check it out by advancing the video to the last 5-6 minutes.

Mr. Ypsi

Mrs. Y and I are going to Salem for the first time (in 2012, both the IWU men and women made the FF, so I decided to stay home to watch both - good call, since the men lost on Friday but the women won it all; before that, I was was still teaching and could not go).

If regulars are going to be there, stop by and say hello (it's always nice to match real people with poster names).  I'm 5'8", glasses, short grey hair, and plan to wear a dark green IWU sweatshirt with white framed letters and a black IWU cap with white lettering.  I'll answer to either Chuck or Mr. Ypsi! ;D  If it is too warm for the sweatshirt, I plan to wear a red t-shirt with a swimming loon, captioned 'Loonatic University'.

Pre-game (and perhaps post-game) we will be at Mac and Bob's in downtown Salem.

@grabtherim

The past didn't end three weeks ago for Killian...ball don't lie. I'm taking Killian over kizel 7 days a week and twice on Sundays.

For folks headed to Salem, I did a bit of research (have to appease the wife on Saturday morning and early afternoon :)) on some attractions that look interesting between the Friday and Saturday games.  Here are some tourist spots and restaurants in Roanoke which sound worthwhile to me.  Also, if you want a good place to stop for a bite on the way down from the D.C. area, I recommend the Bar-B-Q ranch in Harrisonburg, Virginia.  It's just past the half-way point from D.C., it's right off the highway, and the food, while nothing fancy, comes out quick and is tasty.  I've stopped there on each of my last two trips to Salem.

Finally listened to the Dave McHugh's rant on sportsmanship on Hoopsville.  Nicely-said, and good attention to detail noticing Coach Maker's classy moves late in the Mary Washington game.  Overall, the scene at Mary Washington exemplified the best of D3hoops. The fan support for the home team was really spectacular both games, just a great, enthusiastic, rocking student crowd.  I feel like MWU really fed off the crowd energy in using every ounce of energy they had at their disposable to beat what I thought was a more talented VWU team.  MWU was clearly out of gas by the next day's game, but the crowd was still great, cheering hard for the team even when the outcome was no longer in doubt.  And the coaching staff and players showed immense, clearly heartfelt appreciation for the crowd support.  It was really a great scene to watch.  Oh, and I have to agree with Toad (in his subsequent post) that the facility is absolutely incredible -- has to be one of the best in D3, and certainly the best I've been to.

The AMC game, as Dave noted, was a bit of a different story.  I was very nervous after the hard foul that Dave noted because the player who was on the receiving end is, let's just say, Williams' feistiest player.  Fortunately he showed restrain in brushing that one off, even though he clearly wasn't happy about it.  I was surprised Dave didn't mention an earlier play, when one of the AMC guards (not Davis) after getting whistled reacted angrily and bumped the ref who called the foul on his way to the bench.  I don't think the bump was exactly premeditated, but the combination of the exaggerated verbal reaction and walking right into the ref with no effort to avoid him should have absolutely earned a T -- I've never seen a player NOT earn a T when bumping a ref in anger, regardless of the ultimate intent.  Kudos to the ref for showing restrain, but had he T'd up the guy on that play, or issued a T at an earlier point in the game, things might not have gotten so out of hand down the stretch.  Sometimes, you just have to pull the trigger, otherwise a team and its coaching staff will just keep escalating its behavior until things turn ugly.
