Both RIC and Scranton played in Canada last year.

According to HoopDirt, former Bowdoin player Mark Gilbride will be announced soon as the new HBC at RPI.  Gilbride is currently the HBC at Clarkson.

Gilbride is also the son of current Bowdoin HBC Tim Gilbride.  One other interesting connection is that Bowdoin's ABC, Brandon Linton, was a player and then an assistant coach at Clarkson.

That's a great opportunity for Gilbride, as he inherits one of the best D3 programs in New England.  I wonder if he will schedule any games against his Dad!

In other coaching news, from Twitter, the first slot in Kevin App's staff has been filled.  Seems like a specialist in coaching big men, so hopefully he can help the crew of guys facing the daunting task of trying to replace the best center in the country:

Excited to announce I will be an assistant coach at Williams College this season! Blessed to have the opportunity. Go Ephs!

I met Mick several times this summer and believe he is another terrific hire. He was a fine big man at Belmont U, played in the Big Dance a couple of times, including Syracuse, where he scored 17 pts, including 2-3 from 3 point land. He played in Europe for a season, and now wants to be a coach. I think he will become a fine one. He is a very bright kid.

Wasn't sure when the pony express was going to make it out of Williamstown to get the word out on the staff announcements but since Mick announced his new position seems like it's fair game.  I believe Dave Metzendorf is the other assistant (and I'm guessing Toad can verify whether he has seen him around too  ;) ) http://www.cornellbigred.com/coaches.aspx?rc=2434&path=mbball

Nice article on former Bowdoin basketball player (and Secretary of Defense) William Cohen.

Checking in. I saw "Bangor Billy '62" play for Bowdoin a number of times when I was a kid in Lewiston (Bates and Bowdoin are only 20 miles apart). He was a good player. Not as good though as legendary Colby coach Dick Whitmore (Bowdoin '65), a moose, who could really play.

Random thoughts as BB info comes "dripping in".  Mental state questionable as I thought I had a "Aaron Toomey sighting" ...like those Elvis sightings! :)
Anyway,  see on the single game board that there are several possibilities for ODAC opponents this season for Amherst.  Both Washington & Lee and Hampton- Sydney are looking for games.
Also, find it amusing how HBC Hixon can generate both pLus and minus karma points in his only post.

That is different... that is in season... the trips out of season are a once every four years thing. It has to do with trips and expenses outside of the basketball season.

It's actually every three -- that's so that every graduating class could participate if a school wanted to. And it's three instead of four because incoming freshmen aren't eligible to go on a summer trip.

Thanks, Pat... I was told by someone the other day it was four years, but should have realized that could have been wrong. This makes a lot more sense :).

I saw Gilbride play as a tenth grader. My buddy was coaching at Edward Little High (Auburn, Maine) and Gilbride was the point guard for a Brunswick, ME area h.s. playing against E.L.. He was not much bigger than the ball, but played like a coach's son, savvy.

Kids grow up. I wish him well at RPI.
