Vandy74.......assume your niece checked in at Amherst on Sunday.  FYI, on the Amherst website is a Pix of the FY class and a story of the breakdown of her class.  On the flicker link are a number of other partial shots of the "class of 2018" ....maybe you can check them out to find her in the crowd...so to speak.  Interesting group....with Military veterans, transfers, and young men that look like they are 16 year old nerds....no, never was one :).  Me, was interested in checking out tall BB players and big linemen, etc.  I know...very selfish mindset.

Mayer to play professionally in Spain, in the same league as Toomey:

Nescac1....Thanks for the info and link.  Who knows, they may both end up on the same team at a higher level.

Mayer, Toomey and Kizel have the same agent, who also reps John DiBartolomeo and Will Hanley in Spain.
Mayer's team is in the Silver league (LEB Plata) and has an affiliation with Gipuzkoa Basket in the ACB, where Hanley played last year and re-signed for this year. Mayer may be able to practice with the ACB team in this preseason. ISB (Mayer's team) just sent two younger guys up for the preseason.

DiBarto played in LEB Plata last year, and his team was promoted to LEB Oro, so he'll be in that league this year.
Nick Hedgepeth, the new assistant at Williams, played in LEB Plata two years ago.

You can read all about it in English on eurobasket.com.

A light-hearted pre-season article is now up on Nothing But NESCAC's website.  Not sure I agree with the analysis but it's great to read about basketball again.

middhoops

Thanks, PB; +K to you.  I'd have missed this, embarrassingly.
Thanks NBN, not much to chew on this time of year but thanks for keeping us entertained.
Making a note to follow you now.  Keep up the good work.

NothingButNESCAC

Thanks P'Bear Fan for posting that for us. That article just about wraps it up for us in terms of basketball until november rolls around, but for anyone who has even an inkling of interest in NESCAC football, we are going to be doing a lot of stuff that should at least be entertaining.
We will have a little basketball stuff on our twitter account before November for those of you who can't get enough. And of course we will be checking in on the board in case Amherst and Williams fans get into an argument about which 1957 squad had the best backup center...

amh63

NothingButNescac.....did you'll diss us old folks in your "humorous" post above?

lefrakenstein

Anybody got anything on other recruits? I have a hard time believing that there will be only one freshman bball player at amherst this year.

amh63

Seems so...LeFrak!  Did you miss the fact that Amherst is expecting Two D1 transfers to join the team.  One front court player from the U of Ariz. and the other , a PG from F. Dickerson.  Seems both were recruited by Amherst previously.  Considering the number of recruits last year, there are plenty of candidates.  I have knowledge that another player...a possible PG...maybe convinced to tryout this season...ala  L. Lewis .

Piece was written by Young Guy, Midd '18, no by-line. Light off-season analysis. Healthy when a Midd kid's best friend goes to Williams. Serves him right. When Young Guy and I and talked about visiting Williams his senior year in h.s., I said, "no, you may not wear your 'Williams Sucks!' T-shirt." Genuine ambivalence, maturity.

Amh63, word has it that the two D1 transfers are VERY GOOD.  Certainly hurts to lose a guy like Twomey, but to replace him with a D1 transfer point guard (who previously was a D2 scholarship player) certainly helps.  And getting a 6'8 transfer from Arizona, who spent every day in practice covering guys like Kaleb Tarzewski, he has to be looking forward to playing at the D3 level.  Putting him on a front line with David George and Ben Pollack, gives Amherst a major advantage on the post.  Throw Connor Green into the mix, and it could be an exciting year in Amherst (and I haven't even mentioned guys like Joe Mussachaia, Reed Berman, the 6'8 sophomore Nate).

I also like Tufts.  Loaded.  Haladnya, Ferris, Sabety, Palleschi.  Definitely can match up with Amherst. If Shelton can't coach these guys to a top 1-2 finish in Nescac, he needs to retire.

Young Guy has talent!  Where did he pick up his T-shirt?  Anyway, you are showing signs of a proud father, Old Guy :)

Nescacobserver......welcome aboard.  You seem to have good observation skills and conference knowledge.  Any preference to particular schools/teams?  Do not know much about the Tufts' HBC....except that he has been bringing in fine players.   Generally, regular board posters tend to  stay away from comments about coaches....a word of caution on that matter.
It is still early in the school year.  Hope to check out the Amherst team in Nov.....to see if Big Ben is fully recovered and who in the soph class is ready to step up at the 2 and 3 positions.   In particular, am most interested in what players can and will take leadership roles.  Amherst has the pieces to make a strong run this season.  Yes, other posters will point out the roadblocks.  I expect the Mules and Panthers and even the Polar Bears to surprise.   Trinity and yes Williams will be difficult at home.   Guess, in short...it should be a very competitive year in the conference...and a very enjoyable one for me.

jumpshot

My amHerst friends report to me that lj's will do anything to get their first win in an NCAA tournament against Williams (including transfers, etc.), particularly after the epic debacle in Salem last March.

Same mandate regarding men's soccer after Russo's masterpieces past two season's on lj's pitch to go to the Final Four.

Many boundaries and constraints have been lifted ....

Should have mentioned that Peter had written it here. He does have a byline for it, but it is petel44 right now and not his proper name. Working on fixing that so he can get proper recognition.
