Hi MENESCFAN!

If you write as intelligently about basketball as you do about soccer, people on this board are in for a treat.

Let's just all pray that LaPaz or Mr. Right or Whatever Name He's Going By Now doesn't develop an interest in basketball.

Ha ha.  He's actually not that bad.  He is very passionate about NESCAC soccer

QuoteHow does the NESCAC fare nationally in hoops?

Check out the Conference Guidebook for a comparison of the NESCAC's non-conference and NCAA tournament performance relative to all the others in Division III.

This is awesome. Wish we had one of these for soccer. Thanks!

Colby and Middlebury each faced in-state, out of conference opponents at home this evening.  Both NESCAC schools won by wide margins.
I expect Vandy74 or similar will have insightful comments regarding the Middlebury win over Johnson St.
I hope one of our many Mainers may give us the skinny on the Colby victory over Maine Maritime.

102-54, Midd over Johnson State: no one got hurt.

Merryman played 22 minutes, the most of any starter. Sinnickson had 21 points, 8 rebounds. Brierly started in place of St. Amour, who was there in street clothes, no cast. When he went down, everyone feared the worst, another serious knee injury. It's not that - it's his  ankle, the other side. We'll see how fast he comes back. Next NESCAC game is not until a week from Friday at Williams. As has been observed, the iron in Midd's schedule is late.

Figured this is the most "trafficked" board. Anyone having issues withe the site this week?

Pat/Dave - I have been having a terrible time getting in. Once I am in, it isworking fine. Hope it is just more visitors than usual, but figured I would mention.

I've often had very slow response time with d3hoops.com (probably traffic overload), but have had no troubles with d3boards.com (and I'm on nearly all the boards).

Still learning, so apologies if I am asking obvious questions here, but how does the NESCAC fare nationally in hoops?  They do very well in soccer - probably the best conference in soccer, and certainly one of the tops, causing a lot of resentment outside the conference.

Do you have a similar dynamic in basketball?  One of my theories in soccer is that there is so little D1 money to go around in soccer that a number of players who could play D1 simply choose a NESCAC for the academics as only the Ivies and a few other schools can compare.  When schools cost $60+, that $10k from a mediocre D1 is not that appealing.

In NESCAC financial aid is based on need (no "merit" anywhere, right?). No athletic scholarships but a lot of athletes on scholarship. It's a sliding scale, really, with a much different (more generous) loan/grant balance from a few years back.

I can look into both of these. Ypsi -- sometimes I have a really long load time on the home page, but my home page is more complicated because I have all sorts of edit links as an admin. Sadly, the traffic isn't so high that it should be causing an issue. :) 89 -- on the boards, I've had a couple of issues today where a page just won't load, but it pops back for me if I refresh. Not sure what might be causing it.

St. Amour's injury is a high ankle sprain.  2-4 weeks but hopes are that he will be back for the Williams game.  I expect that SNM and Johnson State sophomore Wyatt Larose of Enosburg, VT were disappointed not to be able to new their high school rivalry.

I have no delay going to the boards but it takes 5 seconds for the D3hoops page to load for me on a desktop.

5 days of radio silence from Amh63 during basketball season?  Hope he's OK.

Bowdoin got off to a slow start against UMPI but rallied to end the first half with a 36-28 lead.

Nice mix of offense so far (outside shooting, transition, getting the ball inside).  Hopefully we keep our foot on the gas in the 2nd half.

High ankle sprains can be notoriously tough injuries to come back from.  Hopefully it's not too serious and he's back soon.

Williams leads Amherst 38-34 at the half.
Strangely quiet game.  The LJ home fans haven't found their voice, yet.
Wohl has 13 points and 2 fouls.  Greene has a dozen for Amherst.
Very few whistles in the first half.

middhoops

Trinity drops another midweek OOC game.  This time to Fisher71-62.
The Bantams save their best for NESCAC games.
