The Thomforde-Walters 1966-67 Princeton team, coached by Butch Von Breda Kolff went 25-3 and finished ranked #5 in the country. I saw them play Penn in the Palestra, quite an experience! Walters was the youngest head coach in the country when he arrived at Middlebury.

Playing in the Palestra(the mecca of college bball) against the Temple frosh(who later played in the NIT as seniors when the NIT was a very big deal) was my top experience as a collegian(seeing how the 1% lived). The nitecap of the triple-header was a Big 5 game(St. Joe's-Jimmy Lynam, NBA coach vs. Penn-John Wideman,Pulitzer Prize author).

Having grown up in Philly I really appreciate all the references to the Palestra!!
Just watching games in the Palestra was a thrill, I couldn't imagine playing in one.  Attending a game there, preferably a Big 5 game, has to be on every basketball fan's bucket list.

To piggyback on what Toad pointed out, Wohl was fantastic in other parts of the game and talk of his terrible outing are greatly exaggerated.  10 rebounds, the next highest on the team was 5; 7 assists with the next highest being 2.  To take it a step further, 6 of his 7 assists were for 3 point shots so despite only scoring 8 points himself, he generated another 20 on assists. 28 points of offense is higher than what he typically averages with his 19.7 ppg/2.4 apg. He was higher than his average points generated, higher than average rebounds, higher than average assists, and below his average turnovers.  If everybody on the team would have had that terrible of a day the Ephs would have pulled out a victory.

Regardless of Wohl's performance at Bowdoin, I don't think you can have the POY come from a 7th place team who was bumped first round.

Only if they managed to draw about 80 free throws.

When he left too. Walters and Middlebury were not a good match. He coached here just that one year ('69-'70) before going to Union College to coach their team. That was between my years here as a student and my return, so I don't have chapter and verse, and it was a long time ago. Walters went 7-17. He was succeeded by Tom Lawson who brought competitive respectability to the program, going 107-81 in eight years, before becoming AD. I watched a high school game last night with Tom - his grandson is on the high school team here in Middlebury. Tom's son-in-law is the current Midd AD, Erin Quinn. Full of historical tidbits this a.m..

I think I saw one of his 7 wins that year, a victory over an even worse Bowdoin team in Morrell Gym.

More than a whisper/rumor, there is talk/ consideration in the NCAA back rooms wrt to going to a Freshman year, and 3 year varsity play...both football and MBB.  My take that this return to yesteryear approach is driven by MBB.

Let's remember... that is a Power 5 conversation taking place in Division I... doesn't mean it will be a Division III item. That will have to go through a NUMBER of committees before it would see the light of day and considering how much tuition and enrollment drive Division III institutions, I don't see that coming to this division.

"D-Mac"...points taken...do not expect much will be done....going to a shorter shot clock will happen first I would expect.  It was for a topic of conversation item...while awaiting the weekend games.
The Palestra is in my "bucket" for a visit....the Mecca of BB has moved North these days MSG.
To watch a Big Five Game is also hard for I have not heard about any chance for such an event.  :'(

I would love to see the shot clock be set to 30 for men's basketball.

Final public men's basketball regional rankings are out: http://www.d3blogs.com/d3hoops/2015/02/25/final-public-ncaa-regional-rankings-released/

Already happening in Women's, though I don't think they have a 10 second back court limit.

Scratch that the 10 second back court limit was added 2013-2014.
