QuoteAll-NESCAC Teams announced.

http://www.nescac.com/sports/mbkb/2014-15/honors/allconference

First Team: Green, Hausman, Safford, Starks, and Wohl.

Second Team: Lin, Palleschi, HRL, Sinnickson and Swords.

PoY: Hausman
DPoY: Swords (repeating)
RoY: JMac
CoY: Cosgrove

Obviously the most noticeable thing is the absence of anyone from our Conference champions.  Pretty sure that has never happened in the NESCAC before.  Has it happened to any other conference.  I thought Reilly was a strong CoY contender, but hard to argue with Cosgrove.  (I also am surprised that Boornazian didn't make it).

Also, the NESCAC coaches showed love for seniors Lin and Sinnickson even though their teams failed to make the tourney.  Again, not the way I would have voted, but that is what makes the world go round, I guess.

Congrats to all the players recognized for their great play this season.  Special shout out to Hausman and Swords - well done!

GoUBears!

Indeed, I was remiss in not ending my post with a note of congratulations and gratitude as well.  The above players (and those not listed as well) treated us to another outstanding season of NESCAC basketball.  Thankfully, for some of us, the season is not quite over yet!

I think the coaches got this one 100 percent correct, both on the individual awards and on the all-conference picks.  Hausman and McCarthy, to me at least, were both obvious choices.  Hausman deserves to be on an all-American team this season, and should be one of the best players in the country heading into next season.  Really impressive how much he has improved over his first three years, and next year, he may have to put up even more ridiculous scoring stats for Bowdoin to compete.

The Wesleyan omissions are glaring, but the reality is, they were an extraordinarily balanced team that was mediocre in league play until the conference tourney.  If there was a third team, they'd probably have three guys on it (Davis, Mackey, and Kuo), but I don't think any of those guys had the overall year that Sinnickson and Lin had (plus, Lin and Sinnickson were seniors, which gives them a bit of an edge in a tie-breaker situation).

From an Eph perspective, congrats to Hayden Rooke-Ley and Daniel Wohl on well-earned honors to cap tremendous careers.  Both fought through more illness and injuries throughout their careers than anyone not in the know on all matters Eph will ever know.  Two tough, tough players.  Hayden played in two final fours, Wohl in one final four and one elite eight, and both had prominent roles in one of the best Eph wins ever in last year's final four game vs. Amherst.  As a team, Williams fell a bit short of its goals this year, but certainly those two guys did everything in their power to lead a thin roster that was decimated by graduation/transfer and with a first-year head coach.  Both will be impossible to replace.

Did a little more inquiry on Sage Colleges.  Interesting in that the college in Troy is referred still as Russell Sage College for Women.....guess the MBB team is from the Albany campus?  The web site is somewhat unclear.....but the playing gym is the Karl Center....thanks to the earlier poster on my question.  The mascot is the " gators" and the gym/ fitness cener in Albany is called "the swamp".....similiar to the U. Of Florida football stadium and the UF mascot.  What makes the MBB team intriguing is that their top players....two guards and a big center are all from Florida!
Will be watching for the familiar two arm gator chop cheer from the Sage fans....just kidding here, since I'm not familiar with their cheers.  a little help here posters! :)

Boy tough not giving Joe Reilly the nod.  He really deserved it with that championship season, and the win over Cosgrove in the tournament.

I'm in almost complete agreement with the All-NESCAC selections. I too favored Reilly, but Cosgrove is deserving. He gets some points off from me, puritanical Yankee that I am, for his wild court demeanor.

At this point last year, we were writing what an interesting next season was shaping up, with lots of contending teams. Next year should be more of the same. Good luck to the tourney-bound teams!

If we were basing the honor on the semi-final weekend, rather than the entire season, I'd agree. Seeing that that's not the case, I don't think it's even close. Trinity was 9-1 this year. Wesleyan was 5-5, needing to win its last game to even make the tournament.

Obviously, the Cards did do just that—and in impressive fashion—and then proved to be the best team during the tourney's run.

A terrific achievement.

But I don't think that should eclipse the rest of the season.

Maybe if the teams had been closer in record, then the pendulum could swing. Or maybe if Trinity was populated with extreme talent, outclassing the rest of the conference, it's a tougher decision. Or if Trinity had gagged in its quarterfinal game, even then it's a closer call.

Coach of the Tournament: Reilly.
Coach of the Year: Cosgrove.

And before I get get tarred and feathered for being a Bantam homer, let me say that Joe Reilly is one of my favorite coaches in the league. And I think Jamie Cosgrove behaves like a lunatic.

Mr. Ypsi

In the CCIW we have 'solved' (unfortunately!) the COY problem - it is automatically given to the coach of the title-winning team.

As in many previous seasons, that means that this year it went to a less deserving recipient than the coach of either Elmhurst or North Park (at least according to a consensus of CCIW posters).

I really do think that Cosgrove has a much improved court demeanor. He is still pretty animated, but nothing like the raving maniac he was 2-3 years ago. His players respond to him a lot better now. The number of players quitting the team has dropped to nothing, from a very high level a few years ago. I give him a lot of credit for changing. I know, even now, he isn't everybody's cup of tea, but I think he is much improved.

Fantastic assessment...and why I miss the north so much some times... +K to you OG

I truly enjoy this board- a few days  back a poster innocently stated that he had never heard of Sage College and pandemonium ensues (in the words of Johnny Most's sidekick Jim Pansullo) and a seasoned guy on the board tees off on him for not knowing about Sage College.
The ensuing 3 days evoke a great debate about Sage and Ruusell Sage - I have enjoyed all the posts- some serious, others sarcastic but all reflective of the fun of this board.

I was just reading the NbN picks for all conference team.  Is it just me or does that pic of Tom Palleschi look like a younger Sean Connery?

Walzy, please give us your annual All Crazy team...we miss you!

P'Bear....maybe too much James Bond reruns? :)  A note that you may enjoy.  Was watching several Amherst lacrosse games on line...yes slow day for me too!  Anyway, Amherst was playing WNE on one of its turf fields...holding its home opener on Pratt field for a Sat. Game.  The NSN announcer...maybe an ice hockey announcer was doing fine with the play by play.....except that he referred to the WNE players as the Polar Bears!...in the first half. I thought...OK...another Polar Bear mascot...not knowing better.  In the second half, he referred to the visitors as the Golden Bears!  Colors more appropriate.
Got me thinking...as the NCAA games start today for a few and Friday for most...how many posters here know the mascots of the teams in the CAC sectionals/ sites.  Know SJF is the Cardinals...not the bird...and of course Sage is the Gators...and WPI is the Engineers?...like MIT.
Oh yes, weather report...the games in my area and the mid-Atlantic region will be impacted.  Seems NE and games in up state nY less so.  Be careful travelers.   Me, will be watching on- line...hoping for Amherst to advance to a possible Sweet 16 site at RMC...slightly north of Richmond, Va.

Amh63-for the longest time I was under the impression that Bowdoin was the only school with the Polar Bear mascot.  Somewhere I had heard that Ohio Northern and Alaska-Fairbanks were also big white bears, so that noble beast is a shared mascot.
