BUCKET - Condolences to Mike Maker's family on this tragedy.

NESCAC1 - Prep School? I agree that Oni is probably aiming higher. Williams education is hard to pass up. In my view, the only way it makes sense is if he ends up at a high-academic D1 school. From all indications, he is a late bloomer and had a monster senior year. After that, he might have decided to play D1, who knows. Although he is a versatile and dynamic player, I believe the Ephs has enough depth in the incoming class to make up for the loss. It's better for him not to enroll at Williams than to come in looking to transfer later on. In terms of recruiting, D1 schools know all about player movements, decisions, transfers, etc; so it will be tough for schools to pass up on the combination of skill and grades. I believe the Ephs will be fine.

Old Guy.....just got around to your post wrt to Sinnickson...did I get his name right?  I had thought about him just the other day while watching a little of the NCAA Div1 Baseball playoffs.  Seems Stoney Brook was playing.  I remember he was from that part of Long Island.  Dylan could have played in two sport !  Will he have to wait a year to play?...at UVM.....like Hart at GWU...given he is a grad student.

No, he doesn't have to wait. Steve Hauschka, Seattle Seahawks' kicker, graduated from Middlebury with a year of football eligibility left, and went to NC State as a grad student and played right away. The difference is that Dylan is keenly interested in the graduate program he is entering for an M.A. (Environmental Studies). You got his name right (we're glad you don't call him Prince Valiant any more).

I thought he was on his way to Worchester after a brief stop in some prep school. Why prepping? Grades?

Old Guy......nice to hear from you and the info wrt to Dylan.  He is a person with a free spirit outlook....much like my oldest son...that had caught my attention.  My initial nickname was due to his haircut...as you are aware...in his junior year.
Will be interesting to see where/how his talents will be used up in Div1.  He does have an outside shot and is tough inside and rebounds with authority...nose for the ball.  There is a fine player from Ridgefield HS in CT. at Vermont...a junior to be... with much of the same abilities.  That player got some starter minutes in his freshman year....check with Midhoops...and is about two inches taller.  I'm aware of him because he was a high school classmate of an Amherst player...the one that WPI89 "recruited". :)
Expect some updates of Dylan from all you Panther fans on this board.
Also want to remind you Midd fans that Steve Hauschka's father is an Amherst alum, a class behind me and was never much of a sports fan that I recall.  He is now, however! :)

Williams College wins its 18th out of 20 Directors' Cup in yet another special year for student athletes!

In an unusual year in which men's soccer, men's basketball, and men's tennis were not selected for NCAA tournaments, Williams placed 15 other teams in NCAA post-season competition with ten of them finishing in the top ten nationally, including two national championships, one runner-up, and two third places. The depth and breath of the opportunities for learning and competing at Williams are outstanding with a consistency of purpose rarely seen in enterprises of all sorts.

A tip of the hat goes to NESCAC1 who predicted several months ago the EPHS might still be #1 even after trailing amHerst and Johns Hopkins after the winter seasons.

Word on the street is that inquiries are underway by the lord jeff administration of their athletic department desperate to win this year's Directors' Cup after benefiting from so many accommodations. Heads may roll ....

Congrats to all the CAC schools who did well in their NCAA title runs.  The Directors Cup winner will be announced by mid-June when sports such as softball are completed.  The CAC has Four teams in the Top 10!  Amherst, Middlebury, Tufts and Williams.  Williams will win the Cup again....just nosing out JHU.  Should be hearing from an old friend on the matter....a JHU alum :).  MIT was 3rd, I believe....interesting.
Seems that the women's golf teams' winning the National title did the trick for Williams.  Must be the Taconic Golf Course that draws the talent to Williams. :)

The inside tip is Am'erst athletic department is pretty content with it's 9-2 record vs the ephs in men's team sports and 9-3 vs the lady ephs in women's team sports for 2014-2015. 18-5 is a lot of beef to cook up over in Valentine Dining hall

theHerst, enjoy looking at a long-running movie through a keyhole .... Let me know when you have 32 national championships in many different sports and a winning record in all sports versus the EPHS as Williams does vs. ljs ....
In the interim, no need to be so sensitive and defensive....

Not sure where responding to your playful jab with a playful jab of my own was translated to "defensive" and "sensitive"
Nor do I follow how your comment about the 2014-2015 season turned into an analysis of historical comparison. I suppose the view from the keyhole aint so bad, I'll enjoy it fully.
Inconsistent logic and projecting defensiveness aside, Williams has a stronghold on the Director's Cup and despite Amherst's best efforts that doesn't seem to be changing. Congrats to all the student-athletes over in Williamstown that made that happen.

WPI89

Herst - I thought your playful jab was perfectly in the spirit of the first salvo.  Not that you need my validation, but +1.

AMH63 - I did not follow the whole string - is Oni headed to UVM also?  Or were you just making a stylistic comparison to Steidl?

5 months to D3 hoops!

amh63

WPI89....the latter, my friend.  Oni, the former Williams' recruit, was not the comparison.  The stylistic comparison was with Dylan Sinnickson, the recently graduate of Middlebury, who is going to UVM for graduate studies....and playing BB since he has a extra year of play.

The Herst....nice to read your post!  Your 100th....plus K for reaching the milestone.  Hope you will post more when football and basketball seasons arrive again.

Most enjoyable stories on the upcoming NBA finals tonight in the WSJ from two fine sports writers.  One pickup subtopic on the MVP Curry...his impact to the NBA evolving game...is that the NBA has finally embraced the 3-point shot!...into the pro game.  Guess Maker's concept of building the Williams BB offense with 3 point talent...touched on this board a bit....is unfolding in the NBA with the Warriors led by the "piper" Curry.

Amherst had that sort of Curry impact with Aaron Toomey, IMO.

Jackson - Not grades. I believe Oni just decided to play D1, otherwise Williams would not have accepted him and the Ivys won't be offering him (See Jayhawk's post above). I have seen people prep due to late decisions. This might be the case here. I am excited about the Ephs new recruits and the new lineup.

For the Eph fans (and art and architecture lovers)....interesting article on the architect who redesigned the Clark Art Institue in Williamstown.....looks like a great museum....enjoy the weekend!

It's that slow time on the Boards...summer time.
P'Bear....thanks for the link.  Hope to visit the Clark again soon...maybe during the Fall.  Always enjoy Art Museums.  Wife and I just returned from a visit to the new Whitney in Chelsa.  The building and the Hyline was better than the art pieces.
To underscore a point implied by The Herst with regards to Williams and the Director's Cup...Williams' grip on the Cup is due not only to the fine efforts of its students but to the number of student- athletes.  Williams' enrollment around 2100 plus is in the upper half of the CAC schools...300 more than Amherst it should be noted.  Yet, according to Wekipedia, it has the highest number of student- athletes in the conference...even in the nation wrt percentage of enrollment.

I will post some basketball news later in the Summer when the Amherst team goes abroad for fun and games....assuming such news become available :).
