met-fan....could be...do not know.  Know that he went to college at GWU, and during his Celtic's years lived down the streeT from my parents.  My younger brother was in the same HS graduating class as his daughter...early 60's.  He scouted Georgetown Coach John Thomson when Thompson played at a local Catholic HS.  Remember seeing him watching Summer blacktop BB games under the nights with local sports writers....Chevy Chase Library site.  I saw Moses Molone there with his fellow Lefty D. UMD recruits.  The late Moses M. soon skipped college and went straight to the pros.
Red would hold weekly gatherings with friends in Chinatown DC talking basketball for sure. He moved to a Condo off Mass. ave down the street from American University with his wife in his later years.

NESCAC hoops previews (with few exceptions), in the aggregate:

We have a wonderful group of seniors, who provide tremendous leadership on and off the court.  We will miss the guys we lost from last year, but this year's seniors are up to the task of leading the squad.  We have some frontcourt players returning.  They accumulated statistics last season. We also have backcourt players returning.  They, too, accumulated statistics last season.  Now is the part of the preview where we list other returning players who have not played much in the past but have been working hard and will compete for minutes.  Here is a list of first-year-players who have joined the program.  We are excited to have them.  (Optional: divide list of first-years into frontcourt and backcourt players, and note they will compete for minutes).

A little Midnight Madness fun for the Bates Bobcats as they await opening day on Saturday...

Except for Amherst, which as previously noted only has one senior!

pinseeking1, great video ... although the downside is that they will never host deep into the NCAA tourney (I believe) due to capacity issues, I hope Bates never changes that gym -- one of the few truly old-school gym atmospheres left, just a fantastic, energized environment.  I saw a few impressive dunks there by (I believe) Bates first-year Lynch, who looks to be about the same size, but significantly more athletic, than his brother who had a great career at Midd.  Bates is going to have a very deep, big, and athletic group up front this year, which will need to carry them early I imagine while the backcourt learns on the job.

One more day!  Unusually quiet preseason here this year.  And I guess the Nothing but Nescac guys aren't doing predictions?

No top-25 opponents for NESCAC squads tomorrow, but the first game is always an adventure given how little practice time we have relative to other conferences, and because opponents have typically already played between one and three games.  Most interesting match-ups tomorrow for NESCAC squads include Colby-Staten Island, Bowdoin-Western Conn, and Midd-Baldwin Wallace, all of those are typically solid teams.

No season preview from Bowdoin but the roster is now available.  14 players including 5 FYs and 1 transfer (Richard MacAllister) who is a sophomore.

Looking forward to the start of the season on Friday as the P'bears tip off against W. Conn.  These two teams met in a tip off tournament two years ago. However that does 't mean much at least for Bowdoin as this year's squad will be very different.

I'll be traveling up to watch the games.  Can't wait to get started.

Saw the Bates video...impressive.  Going out on a limb...why not!  Seems to me that the CBB is setting up like the Little Three this year.  This season, predictions has Amherst and Wesleyan being solid/ strong and Williams being young and unknown.  Colby and Bates look improved and Bowdoin appears young and unknown...even with their returning All- American.
Believe Amherst had a dunk contest video pre season several years back...not midnight madness timing I'm sure.  Amherst students need their sleep more :).

That gym and no hockey at Bates leads to the best home hoops atmosphere in the NESCAC hands down.

"Hoosiers" in Maine!

Aware that Bates are building/built? Two new dorms.  Anyone aware if there are future plans to add Hockey and/or new gym?

Depending on what time I get out of work Friday, I'll try to be there on Friday too P'bearfan.

Western has a very young roster: 9 of the 14 players are freshmen, so they'll have some growing pains early in the season, but hope to get more mature by the time LEC play rolls around.  Had our opener yesterday down in New Jersey against TCNJ according to amh63 now coached by an Amherst alum and lost by 1 in overtime.  Looks like 2 young teams, but both are coached by great coaches, and no doubt each team will get better as the season goes along.  Good luck to the P'Bears this year!

Just saw a post in the Little East room from AMH63 giving a shout-out to TCNJ for its win over Western Conn.  Is there any limit to the reaches of that man?  I now am involved in NJAC hoops down here in the Garden State--it's been a long summer and fall--last entry in that chat room is from April--so I have nowhere else to go but hang around this room.
Anyway, Western is athletic and pretty fast but not great in running an offense.  If the PBears take care of the ball they'll be OK.  I understand the WCSU coach is an old pal of Hixon's--looks like Santa Claus but seems like a good guy.

Since we are getting side-tracked anyway, just wanted to give a shout-out to Eric Murdock, Jr., who I see is lighting it up so far this year for TCNJ.  His father was a superstar at my high school, Bridgewater-Raritan (a few years before my time) prior to a long NBA career, and his cousins also all starred for BRHS (including one all-state player in my class).  Great family, great players.  The current NESCAC connection: Tufts' Vincent Pace, who I think could be a break-out player this year or next, was a year behind Murdock, Jr. on a loaded high school team.   F&M's James McNally, a former D3 all-American from a few years back, is also a BRHS alum; rich basketball tradition there of strong scholar-athletes.
