Seems I've been hoisted on my own petard.  Fair enough --I guess my memory isn't as reliable as it once was ... Still I don't recall the sort of stunned surprise when Toomey (who was only a first team all-American that year I believe) was named POTY!

He was also the NABC Player of the Year that season.  Although, according to some, he wasn't even worthy of being in our starting 5 that year, so I guess he was, in an odd way, something of a polarizing figure that year.

Many thanks to our friends at NbN for posting the best, most accurate conference awards (especially regarding POY).

Midd looks to be much the better team in a slugfest against Salisbury St., leading 36-25 at the half.
Matt Daley with some unfortunate early fouls (3) but great effort by Nick Tarantino and others to dominate the paint.

Midd up 6 with a couple minutes to do.  Daley big late as Salisbury is covering MSA with half the team.
Bruce Bosley, we miss you.

Not sure what to say about the end of the Midd/Salisbury game.  Refs called off the game tying tip.  Could have gone either way.  BIG props to Salisbury for coming back at the end of the game.
For us old guys, endings like that are not good for our tickers.

I'm not sure what can be done in .2 seconds.  I know they say you need .7 to get a shot off.  Without seeing it in slo-mo replay it's hard to say with any certainty.  Great game for St. Amour.  Clutch free throws from Matt Daley at the end which I'm sure my new little -K buddy will agree.  There is a tomorrow.

Bucket

He grabbed it w/ two hands, and once he did that, with .2, the game was over.

That's how it was explained by the refs as they waved off.

I've looked at it about 10 times and I can't tell.  I also can't tell if the out of bounds play at .2 seconds off Majors was correct.  It is tough to see, but it may have gone off a Salisbury's players leg.

Can't tell if he grabbed it with two hands? It was obvious. Whether he beat the buzzer or not was irrelevant at that point, because it would have meant the operator didn't start it in time.

I agree, Bucket. It was obvious that the Salisbury player caught the ball with two hands. I was actually surprised that it took five or six seconds for what seemed like a no-brainer wave-off to be called.

Amherst has a game on its hands, and so too does Tufts, playing without Vinny Pace, who appears to be out for the game, and maybe the season. What happened to Trinity?

I spoke with both teams after the game. Salisbury's coach and players didn't seem to have a problem with the call. Salisbury wanted more time on the clock (like 0.9 seconds) but didn't have a problem with the call. Salisbury kids were very classy about it too. More poised than I would've been at that age, or maybe he even now.

Middlebury coach Brown had some good lines in the postgame press conference. On Zach Baines, "I knew I wanted him when I saw him before the first game at Yale's prospect camp and he tied his shoes without bending over." He has a lot of potential and is pretty good now. Great leaper, not afraid to go inside. Get a little bulk on that frame and he'll be nasty. And St. Amour is really impressive. Very smart player, great passer, makes big shots. I knew he was good but this is my first chance to watch him in person in a couple seasons.

JustAFan:

Trinity was the underdog in that game. Johnson & Wales is ranked No. 12 and the Bantams weren't ranked.

Thanks, Gordonman. I should have known that!  Jeff Racy's clutch 3 and David George's heads up top of the key defense on Husson's final possession allow Amherst to squeak by Husson.  Now over to Cousins to see if the home crowd can lift the Pace-less Jumbos to a win over a good SoVT squad.
