Just watched Randy Moss' daughter score 39 vs Lady Lord Jeffs. Opposite of DR, she played Division 1 - had a good freshman year at Florida but coach wouldn't let her transfer to another D1 program. Stud.

Sydney Moss is amazing. As a result, Thomas More is also amazing. They haven't lost in just a few days over two years.

I'd have to look back at scores, but Amherst might be the only team to get within 10 points of them.

The basketball season is over for Amherst.  The Tufts' WBB team will meet the No.1 team in several weeks.  For me, this season is one that started with high expectations, but I at the finish, can just say...No regrets!....to borrow the phrase of another poster.
Looking forward to hear from the posters....old and new...next season.  Not soon enough.

Congratulations to Lucas Hausman who was the NESCAC's lone representative on this year's d3hoops All American team (Lucas was selected to the fourth team).

As a related aside, I have long wondered: if a player is selected for "Honorable Mention" recognition, can that person say he was an All American?  Or is d3hoops just pointing out the people who came closest to reaching All American status without actually achieving it?

According to one write-up I saw, Amherst was the only D3 team (one NAIA team also did it) to lose by less than double-digits in the last TWO years!  For the sake of all the rest of us, fortunately Sydney Moss is graduating!  Thomas More has assembled quite a good cast around her, and they may still be a threat for the title next year even without her, but at least it won't be the almost foregone conclusion it has been for two seasons.  (I wish Tufts all the best in the title game (which seems practically next season ::)), but I think they have very little chance.)

I'm not sure there would be many dissenters that Sydney Moss is THE most dominant player (male or female) to ever play D3.  (MAYBE Duncan Robinson could have challenged that if he had stayed at Williams, but I doubt it.)

Ouch!  That's cold.  If probably true.

Yes this is a well deserved recognition for Hausman.  Not sure when the NESCAC will see a scorer who puts up numbers like his again.

Oh....and as predicted we wind up with the lone NESCAC All-American selection not being the conference's PoY.

I didn't mean it to demean DR in any way; he was an incredible D3 talent and I'm really enjoying following him at Michigan (in D1, I'm totally 'Go Blue').  But the men are just never going to be as dominated as the women unless a Michael Jordan-type decides for whatever reasons to forego D1 ball.  The women have made HUGE strides since Title IX, but still lack anywhere near the depth of talent, as evidenced by the number of women's teams vs. men's teams that enter the tourney undefeated each year.

Blah, blah, blah.  Give credit where credit is due, and keep in mind that this is not coming from a Hixon or Jeffs fan; Let's be honest: Hundreds of teams and everyone in our league would have signed up to be exactly where Amherst was last night.  They lost to an undefeated team by 3 points in a national semi with two shots to send it to OT.  Our league acquitted itself well all season and into the post season.  Despite my strong feelings and leanings, this is one of those times you have to be a good sport and congratulate a rival on a great season.  That said, I hope Midd goes out and kicks the tar out of them next season and beyond.

Completely agree. I am as big a Jeff fan as there is out there and I am thrilled with what they did this year. They were nowhere close to a dominant team in any respects yet they were still playing on the last Friday of the season.  When I read that fans might have been surprised at the loss, I scratch my head and ask what they were watching this year?  They played on the edge all season, including in the playoffs, and that obviously cuts both ways.  Very happy about their body of work.

To those Jeff fans who think that they will automatically be better next year ... be careful what you ask for.  Will the PG ever realize that his job is to get the ball to the wings and not to look for your own shot first?  (Aaron Toomey you are not.)  Who will become the power forward to actually pound the boards?  (See Benedictine, rebounding differential.)  No one I see on the roster who fits that bill. Green might have shot a bunch, but he allowed his game to be subsumed by the greater good this year and deserves kudos accordingly.  No tears shed for what they bring back but their weaknesses this year were not remotely Green centric.

Go Tufts girls!

I only saw Amherst play twice this year (both times against Bowdoin).  In the first meeting Green took 18 shots, 8 more than the next player.  In the conference quarterfinal match up he again took 18 shots, 7 more than the next player.

Also during the quarterfinal game Green took a long three that caused one of his teammates to scream at him something along lines "what were you thinking?!".  I'm told that was a fairly regular occurrence.

When I look at the stats for the full year Green took 432 total FG's (21.2% of the team's total and nearly 100 more attempted FG's than the next player).

No question that Green is a talented shooter....but "subsumed by the greater good"....not sure about that description.

Darn I hate when the facts get in the way of my theories!!  Good post PBEARFAN. There is no doubt that Green was their shooter, much to the dismay of Racy and perhaps MCCarthy, and that a decent percentage of those shots were ill advised.  I guess that I have some sympathy, if you will, based on the other things that he did.  But your point is well taken.

If anyone can direct me to a link for the box score of the All Star game that was played in Salem on Saturday I would greatly appreciate it. Post it here since I'll be checking back.

It doesn't appear to exist anymore.  Maybe Pat or Dave took a picture of the stats?  I left mine at the venue - I didn't think I'd need them again.

You could watch the replay - http://www.ncaa.com/video/basketball-men/d3 - and just make your own boxscore.

AmherstStudent05: Our honorable mention team selections are indeed considered All-Americans.
