BTW - the "Babson with Flannery 100% beats Amherst" topic was also discussed quite a bit on the NCAA Tournament page in the Multi-Topics section... I know Gordon mentioned it... I believe magicman responded... can't remember if I did, but again... I talked about it on Hoopsville.

Dave, for some strange reason you seem to believe that I think you are a liar.  That is not the case at all and has nothing to do with what we are "arguing" about.  I don't doubt that you hold the opinions that you do.  The question is whether those opinions are sound.

I only pointed out the fact that you didn't post on this board prior to the Amherst-Babson game to explain why I never had cause to raise this issue myself before the game.  In your previous post you seemed to imply that I was, at least in part, only criticizing your opinion about Amherst's chances against Babson after the game had played itself out.  I just wanted to make clear to you that I would have objected to your opinion just as forcefully had it come across my radar prior to the game (but since it was not posted on this board, the only board here that I check with any regularity, I was unaware of it).  Again, I have no doubt you held, and vocalized, your opinion prior to the game, and I certainly do not believe you had any obligation to post that opinion on this board.

I have enjoyed following this.  Been there done that with this guy.  Remember even the thinnest piece of paper has two sides.  That said, there is nothing as thin as Dave's skin when you call him on something.  Deflect and deny being the buzz words.  Remember in his world and mind, he and the coaches he speaks to are the authority; you and everyone else in the D3 world is anything but.  Agree and respect that or you get the one hundred percent accurate implication you got.  It's not the 1st time we have seen this, and my guess is it will not be the last.  For those who know NY media, quite similar behavior to that of Mike Francesa who knows his stuff like Dave does, but similar to Mike, Dave obnoxiously let's you know your take means next to nothing.

"d-Mac"....please, the topic you keep bringing up is DONE.  You posted on March 23 giving your viewpoint.  I posted my opinion as did a number of posters.  Enough all ready! Gee, identifying some of your supporters as being coaches is  interesting.  It is heading in the direction of getting personal, imo.
Took my wife to the eye doctor today.  While waiting for her, read a Sports Illustrated publication of NCAA Div 1 men and women BB topics...including the men's Bracket winners.  I smiled when SI predicted Kansas to be this year's Champion...beating Michigan State.

JeffFan...though I agreed with you wrt to the mascot, suggesting a new mascot name contest on this board is not a good idea, IMO.  Oh well, I HAVE discussed several names with friends..younger generation.  Will share a few here and even a suggestions by a classmate.
First, I want to repeat a comment heard from Coach G, the HC of Amherst WBB.  Coach G has two young children that are often found at his games in LeFrak.  His comment..."I  hope it will be a ferocious mascot" :).  I thought maybe Purple Dragon....like the Red Dragons mascot of several SUNYAC schools.  My granddaughter would like that.
A classmate suggested Pioneers, since Amherst is located in the Pioneer Valley.  However, Smith College down the road has that mascot.
I started going down the road of separating an " official" mascot and a "nickname".  A possible compromise outcome from the Alum&student commitee established to propose a mascot.
This is like many schools...the UVA is called the Cavaliers and the Yahoos or 'Hoos.  Bucket needs to clarified the two names...when he recovers.
My nickname pick is JEFFS!...for the alums....yes, we are allowed to sing "The Song" as a Football parent calls it and old alums do after every TD by Amherst on the field anyway.  The tradition has been lost on incoming FYs.
Now for a mascot name tied to Amherst history.  I thought of "Missionaries".   Some schools are called The Saints.  Yes, Amherst was a college...like Harvard and Williams...to produce ministers/missionaries to serve the community and the world.  Maybe this will impact some PC comfort space.
My last mascot suggestion was discussed with a senior Dean of Admission over breakfast/ coffee recently at Amherst.  He was a former football player at another CAC school.  The Amherst emblem has a Star or Sun on it and the motto in Latin.  The motto infers to spreading light/ wisdom around the World.  Other Amherst posters can correct  my motto interpretation.  Where am I going.  I think a mascot of Star or Sun ( Like the nearby Casino with the Indian Tribe name) maybe OK.  My friend did not think it was too arrogant. :)
Long post...but got some thoughts on the topic out. ;D

Nothing could be further from the truth. I simply state my opinion and if it is different I do disagree. I never make it personal, I never make personal attacks, never call people names, and I never state that I think someone's opinion is anything but their opinion. Just because I disagree with you and show that others disagree as well isn't an attack on anyone and it isn't saying someone else is wrong. I am simply pointing out when I have said it and why. And trust me, my skin is pretty thick. Some of the comments I have been told over the years pale in comparison to anything said here in recent weeks.

The problem is, many people think that when my opinion is different it is wrong and when they can't change my mind, I am the problem. I have an opinion... in this matter many others had the same opinion. That is all. The point was raised that my opinion was not read in this threat prior to the game and my simple retort was that I didn't have time to post it here, that I stated it many times on my show, and that it was also echoed in another thread. Not sure how in the world anyone thinks that is me having thin skin.

Not sure how I have deflected or denied anything. I am pretty open about my thoughts and I am pretty honest when I am wrong. And I don't think I am the authority on anything, though I will say my track record isn't that bad. However, I have been wrong on many things... being wrong is what helps you learn the processes and systems better. I have to be okay with being wrong or I wouldn't be willing to state my opinions or even post my Top 25 blog each week (or nearly each week, when time allows). The difference is, I find that people don't actually read what I say and instead see something they don't agree about and twist what I wrote into something completely different. I think to some degree that has once again happened here, but I am not in the mood to even copy and paste my opinions again. Feel free to read them again if you like. I am moving on into the offseason and the women's championships this weekend with far more pressing matters.

Comment to Dave:  I think such a viewpoint is wildly unfair to Amherst, and that is why I have taken the time to post in response.

"You might not understand it... so be it."  Dave's quote, not mine.

You don't agree =   "You might not understand it... so be it."

I would argue insulting, condescending and showing a thin skin Dave, as usual...

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

You might not understand MY opinion... don't put words in my mouth. So be it as... not much I can do if you don't have the same opinion as mine. You are making far more out of my comments than I am saying in the first place. You are also twisting things as I said to make things seem far different. Not even close to what I am saying.

You don't understand my point of view... that is fine... so be it... we move on. Don't make it more than it really is.

You can tap dance all you want. The post was made followed by your comment.  When someone disagrees with you it doesnt mean they did not understand your point. A quote is a quote. I didn't say it, you did, and now I don't understand?  Again? Really?  Yeah that's it. Now move on.

A little reminiscent of discussions with one's children. "They just don't listen to me."  No, they listen - they just don't agree. All of these are opinions. I can understand with complete clarity what someone else's view is.  But understanding it does not mean agreeing with it.

Dave - I fully understand your views as stated here.

Dave - I respectfully disagree with many of your views as stated here!

Agreed.  Well said indeed.  Had I read this thread an hour sooner I might have suggested my father's favorite pithy retort to those failing to appreciate the wisdom he was attempting to impart.  Since he was Amherst '44 and played freshman basketball some feathers may have remained ruffled as a result.

This is really to let amh63 know his presence on the lacrosse board is sorely needed and long overdue.  While I will be joining others in rooting on the lady basketball Jumbos, someone still has to take down their men's lacrosse team this season.  It appears the best bet to pull that off will be the Pioneering Saints.

P'bearfan

It looks like Lucas Hausman will continue his basketball career next year in Spain.  He will be playing in the same league as John Swords but for a different team (possibly Augustinos-Eras but I could be mistaken).

Great to hear that Hausman will have a chance to continue playing and thrilling crowds with his shot making ability.  Best of luck!

GoUBears!!

Vandy74....will do as soon as I catch up with the lacrosse teams.  Had to watch a baseball game at the new Amherst baseball " facility".  It was the first of a double header with Endicott that went to 13 innings.  Amherst lost 4-3...good pitching by both teams but both HCs went to talk to the field ref after called outs.
The WBB Jumbs will be playing in April. :).   Your thoughts here are welcome...as always.

Several items for posters here to consider...loose end info.
The Amherst Admission Office announced that the successful applicants to this year's pool were notified by e-mail on the 25th of March..Regular Decision applicants.  Guess other Nescac schools did the same.
Decided to go to NERR to see what New England MBB info was on hand.  There was a 27 th March story about the recent 75 Academic Showcase Game.  There was a comment that caught my eye.  The comment was the listing of 8 Nescac school, plus Rochester...in attendance with Willams at the head of the list.  Amherst was not listed :).  The noted players in the game were all underclass players.
Let posters speculate on the info...in this past MBB period. :)

30 for 30

Quite a night for Matt Hart contributing 5 points 2 rebounds and an assist to GW's NIT Championship Game victory over Valparaiso. The three pointer linked below gave GW a second half double digit lead they never relinquished. Hamilton reference in the clip. Matt left Hamilton 2 years ago to pursue his dreams of playing major college basketball. Matt chose GW as the best school and highest level of basketball that offered him a chance to work his way onto the court and earn a scholarship, both of which he achieved this season. His determination and work ethic paved the way for incredible journey all the way to to Madison Square Garden. With his senior season still ahead more chapters still to be written.
