Really impressive first year in D1 for Matt Hart and Duncan Robinson.  It will be fun to watch both develop further next year into even bigger impact players, as well as see how Hunter Sabety does.  I wonder if in light of all the NESCAC transfer success Bowdoin should be worried about teams sniffing around Jack Simonds :)

A few other NESCAC tidbids:  Joe Reilly was mentioned as a candidate for the Central Conn job, but didn't seem to be one of the finalists.

A few more NESCAC recruits announced by Mike Crotty and the Middlesex Magic, G Jeff Spellman to Bates and F Sam Jefferson to Colby.  I saw also that Colby added 6'7 Sean Gilmore from University School in San Francisco.  Colby certainly needs as many recruits as it can get, with so few significant contributors from this season returning.

Quite a night for Matt Hart contributing 5 points 2 rebounds and an assist to GW's NIT Championship Game victory over Valparaiso. The three pointer linked below gave GW a second half double digit lead they never relinquished. Hamilton reference in the clip. Matt left Hamilton 2 years ago to pursue his dreams of playing major college basketball. Matt chose GW as the best school and highest level of basketball that offered him a chance to work his way onto the court and earn a scholarship, both of which he achieved this season. His determination and work ethic paved the way for incredible journey all the way to to Madison Square Garden. With his senior season still ahead more chapters still to be written.

While chasing around the media front watching interesting basketball games recently.....came upon an ESPN 30 0n 30 broadcast of a significant men's game played in 1966.  Yes that great year for many posters here.  No, it was not the Old Guy vs Ken Howard game in 1966...more significant!   The NCAA 1966 Title game between Kentucky and Texas Western played at Cole Field House on the Un. of Md Campus in College Park Md.
Was living in DC at the time but did not attend the game.  Many legendary coaches were there in the game that changed the college men's basketball world.....in particular recruiting.  The present GM of the NBA Miami team was a player on the    Kentucky team....an all-american to boot.  I was struck by the play of both teams and the size of the starting players at the time.  The size of the players are comparable to ones playing in the NESCAC now..D3 size.
When I went to games at Cole Field House with my sons, I would mention the '66 game to them.  Gary Williams, former coach at Ohio State and Un. Of Md, was a student at Maryland and mentioned that he slipped in to watch the game.
Any other posters here caught the game?

Wasn't there, amh63, but I distinctly remember watching it.
Kentucky was very small and very white.
Texas Western's 6-7 big man David "Big Daddy" Lattin started the scoring with a thunder dunk.  The camera cut to Adolph Rupp and you could see the obvious concern on his face.  SEC teams didn't face non-white players in those days.
College basketball changed, racially, after that game.  Like banning the dunk, stupidly.

Tufts girls came out on fire but The Sydney Moss Show won another title, this time by 12.   Yet another double digit win!  Great run by Tufts and nice for NESCAC to have two teams in Final Four.

I watched the replay tonight after the UNC-UV game.
Texas Western defended better; there were few open shots for KY. KY made 5 more FGs but 17 fewer points from the foul line. Kentucky was small; Pat Riley played underneath in a 1-3-1 zone @ 6'-3". Louie Dampier was all-ABA. Larry Conley became a prominent TV bball analyst in the Billy Packer-Al McGuire era. Bob Tallent transferred to GW after playing in this game and became the 1st of 3 brothers(Mike,Pat) to star there. Pat is now an outstanding senior amateur golfer(US Senior Open level).
I recognized my old "buddy" Steve Honzo as one of the refs. Scranton played 2/3 of its nonconference games against D1 teams in this era and when they played @ Scranton, Honzo would be one of the refs, seemingly to protect the D1 teams against being homerized. He also lived about 60 miles away so it was reasonable in that sense.
Kentucky, on their web site, has a chart of all the KY games that Honzo called over the years(and ostensibly the other refs, also) with the wins and losses(4-5) and the # of fouls called for each team. Would you NESCAC guys find that useful for the Big 3 games?
Philly Big 5 schools are winning the championship on a 31-year cycle: 1954-LaSalle, 1985-Villanova, 2016-Villanova.

ronk.....nice info!  Plus K.  Don't want to know stuff wrt refs...only if it would help to remove some particular ones from Nescac games...my personal view of course.

For those interested, Amherst hoops posted its Top 10 (and not so top ten) plays from the season: http://youtu.be/zTTnXS1HmSA

Looking forward to the 2016-2017 season and seeing if Amherst can come out with a purpose right from the tip and sustain it through the final buzzer. Hoping they can play like one unselfish cohesive unit. They certainly have the talent and experience to make a deep run next season. The league on a whole seems like it will improve as well so they will have their work cut out for them.

I think Amherst is making its final push for a few more recruits in this cycle, any word from other teams re: recruits?

TheHerst.....nice points.  It is always good to be able to laugh at one self at times :). Plus K

Old Guy

For what it's worth department: I checked the box score of the '66 Midd 71-68 win over Amherst and Ken Howard. The White Shadow scored ten points in that game (4 fg 2 ft). Bob Krause had just three points. I started and scored 0 points, though the next game I had a big game, scoring four points in an OT loss to UNH - and the following year against Amherst I exploded for six points in a 13 point loss (Krause had 26 in that one). Ah, nostalgia.

I watched the Texas Western-Kentucky game in the TV room at Proctor Hall (Student Union) at Middlebury my junior year. I and my three friends, basketball players, rooted hard for TW and celebrated the outcome. "The Baron": gimme a break.

Old Guy....good stuff!  Nostalgia, makes life sweeter, IMO.  Plus K

Updated list of announced NESCAC recruits:

Bowdoin: David Reynolds, 6'7 F

Colby: Ronan Schwarz, 6'3 G, Sam Jefferson, 6'5 F, Sean Gilmore, 6'7 F (Mike Crotty mentioned that Colby has a big incoming class, so there must be several more, as well)

Trinity: Kyle Padmore, 6'4 F, Joe Bell, 6'0 G, Nick Seretta, 6'3 G/F

Williams: Henry Feinberg, 6'5 G/F, Matt Karpowicz, 6'8 C, Vince Brookins, 6'2 G

At least based on what's been reported so far, a lot of perimeter firepower coming into the league next year, but not a ton of impact big guys.

Nescac1....thanks for the update.  The recruit of interest for me is Clapp.  Same school and size as Tom Killian.  If he is as good as Tom, then Amherst has an impact player, IMO.  Recruited by former Amherst Assist Matt Goldsmith, also a Delbarton player, he is reported to have a fine  3-point shot and offensive game.
There will be a bunch of players competing for the roster spots next season at Amherst.

Nice contribution, nescac1.  Thanks for the research.  +k

May not be possible at the D3 level, but is there any way to rate these players and classes going in?
