nescac1 - thanks for the recruiting update.

I realize that Bowdoin brought in a very large class this year (at least for them), but hopefully they will have 2 more players than what is shown above.  You just need at least 3 players each year b/c it often takes players a couple years to develop and have an impact.

More information on Lucas Hausman's basketball career plans.  Next year he will play for Basket Villa de Mieres 2012 which plays in the 4th tier of the Spanish league.

Good luck to Hausman and thanks for 4 very exciting years at Bowdoin!

Bowdoin hosted it's basketball banquet last night.  It was a great way to wrap up the season and say "Thank you!" to the three senior tri-captains.  They are fine players and young men.  Thanks for your leadership!

Final update on Bowdoin - Neil Fuller and Jack Hewitt have been named co-captains for next year's squad.  Congratulations to both - they'll do a great job.

There's no way Bowdoin will be able to directly replace a player like Lucas Hausman.  He meant as much to this team as Aaron Toomey meant to Amherst's squad two years ago.  However, many of Bowdoin's FY's saw significant playing time this year and the team played at a much higher level in the last four games of the year which is a promising sign.

Next year's team will be a different one than year's squad and I think they will surprise some people.  I'm looking forward to see it take the floor!

GoUBears!!

I bet most fans are already looking forward to next year. I am certainly hopeful about the Ephs. They have had a couple of ok years, following the graduation of a bunch of great players, and of course the departure of our coach, Mike Maker, and Duncan Robinson. I am hopeful that our mostly young talent will mature enough to rise to the top levels of the NESCAC. I really like our new coach, Kevin App, and expect that the future is very bright. Go Ephs!

Here is one more for Bowdoin -- Drew Gagnon, a SG from the Pingry School in New Jersey.

Interesting re: Gagnon -- Pingry is not usually a source for NESCAC-level recruits, but he looks intriguing -- very raw but hyper athletic, he can really throw it down and in atypical Bowdoin fashion plays above the rim, check out the first minute of his YouTube highlights -- kind of reminds me of a D3 version of Andrei Kirilenko.   Could be quite interesting in a few years as his skills catch up to his length and athleticism.  Pingry (which is located in my hometown) is actually coached by a high school classmate of mine, Jason Murdock.  I wish I could say that would allow me to provide some special insight into a Pingry prospect, but I was most definitely not cool enough in high school to warrant a single conversation with Murdock, who was an all-state player while I wasn't even all-driveway.

Historically this may be true.  However, two of the the FY's on this season's team (Hugh O'Neil and Harrison Dunne-Polite) have a similar type of athleticism.  Should be fun to watch them as they earn more playing time in the coming years.

Should have gone to Bates - lots of Gagnons in Lewiston.

FYI,
The website D3bballrecruits.com came back online recently. It gives recruits(name, high school, position) for schools mostly in the NE,E,Mid-Atlantic quadrant.

Couldn't access that website for some reason (user error definitely a possibility).  The d3 recruits website is up but there are remarkably few schools listed.

Been watching some of the Spring sports lately....especially the Nescac Tack and Field Championships being held today at Pratt Field.  A bit of nostalgia for me since I ran some track events in HS...low hurdles and sprints. Took a look at the new dorms under construction via the construction cams on the Amherst website.  Just in time to see the final touches being done on the new outdoor basketball courts...black tops being rolled.  More nostalgia ...since I learned my limited basketball game/moves playing around the D.C. Blacktop playgrounds.  Spent a lot of time watching night games on those playgrounds of future college stars and pro stars too.  Joined at times by newspaper writers and even Red Aurbach.  Summertime memories.  Was never much of a baseball follower at old Griffin Stadium..pro ball games near Howard Un. On Georgia Ave. in D.C.  Even if I had the money.

amH63,

Don't remember seeing you at Chevy Chase Playground, or Jelleff Recreation Center, American University's old gym, or the night courts in Southeast ....perhaps you waited to get in a game at Friendship....

Jumpshot....am not aware of you being a D.C. Homeboy :).  What period?
My period was in two phases.  Playing was in the NorthEast area from Capital Hill towards JFK Stadium  and slightly North and West.  Upon my return to DC after Amherst, married...did my watching at the Friendship Heights playground and the lighted courts at the Chevy Chase Circle/Library site.  Never aware of of the AU gym or ventured to SW DC.  Maybe you are in the the time period of my younger brother who attended public HS at Wilson...a classmate of Red's daughter.  Wilson HS was attended by four of my classmates.  The other DC classmates attended private schools.  Me...attended a public HS in NE....thus my upper school home area.  Got around by walking, streetcar or bus in those school days....yes, streetcars.
