Vandy74....nice words for refs that I felt were a bit blind at times or just doing a little "home cooking".  It is D3 refs...a bit hash, but true.
With a big win by the PolarBears over the present Nat. Champs, it looks that there will be MANY interesting battles ahead within the conference.

Balance is Beautiful in Panther Land... Dahleh is back.....

Lots of weapons, no tendencies, when best player averages double digit assists, this team has higher ceiling than last year

2 leading scorers Daly, Folger score inside & out.  Last year, teams were happy with a Brown three or a St. Amour baseline drive

Keith Brown......how did that Blue Middlebury 15 shirt fit you.... Ironic scored only 15 points in game too...38, 45....distant memory
Three 3's and only 2 after draining that first one to start game with Daly's hand in face......

Our LEADER, he just about averages a triple double a game, while shutting down the other teams best scorer!!!!
Since, leadership, hustle, guts, IQ, footwork, & playing for your teammates... don't show up in the box score. He is marginalized.

D3 Talent Observation

It seems logical to me with financial woes still plaguing the country although covered up by media, that talented players who may have been able to afford D3 from a tuition perspective are very much challenged by the current financial environment which has to impact talent pool when D2 alternatives offer scholarships.

Is there systemic risk to D3 talent acquisition due to higher individual tuition responsibilities at D3 school

My early, probably too early, view is that talent in the aggregate has diminished nationally at D3.

D2 schools rarely offer more aid than d3.  Yes, they can offer athletic money, but they also often have smaller endowments and offer less need-based money.  A few students do make out better, but I don't think it's a high enough number to really drive massive change.

Yes is the answer - there is higher risk for talent diminution in any program or set of programs that do not offer scholarships during a period when tuition increases far outpace inflation.   The schools with the highest endowment per student - Amherst, I believe, has the highest endowment per student in any liberal arts college in America - can afford more tuition aid, but the less endowed schools struggle.

Within the Nescac, the D3 financial envoirment is quite different than the majority of D3 level schools.  The UAA shools  and MIT join the CAC schools with Endowments that can provide financial benefits that can attract talent. For example, professors and coaches children can go to other CAC schools with most generous tuition benefits.  When two or more kids are at Amherst, as an example, tuition costs are reduced.  When my two sons were at Amherst together..for a year...I only paid tuition for one.  At Amherst, foreign students have the SAME tuition assistant advantages as US students including no loan assistance, etc.
The key in the above cited schools is that the student athletes can meet the academic standards of the school's general population.  In checking the rosters of the Amherst's teams, there are talented players from around the world and the country.  Travel costs to and from home....no problem as travel costs are part of the financial aid packages.  Lots of  West Coast players on the volley ball team and football team.  Same with kids from Florida, Texas, etc.  Golfers and Tennis players from the Far East and the "Beat goes on" for the richest schools in D3.

Swarthmore's gotta be pretty close - just a slightly smaller endowment and probably 200-300 less students.  Technically, MIT's enrollment might be high enough that even with 12,000 students they're higher per capita.  Grinnell has to be close, as well.

With VERY few exceptions, that is JUST a list of New England schools.  There are literally hundreds (perhaps even thousands) of schools who would be higher than many of the lower schools on the list.

No need to create a straw man.  Anyone who watches the league knows Daly can play.  But he was certainly overshadowed (or just shadowed) during the past couple of years by outstanding teammates and upperclassmen.  Sometimes, you just need to let the story develop.  Pre-season all-whatever teams mean diddly, except for message board musings.  If Daly is the best player in the league, we will know soon enough.

Mr Ypsi, I defer to your expertise on your claim re: endowment $$$/student, just passing along a list from the Google Machine. But among the first 30 colleges listed are Stanford, Pomona, Swarthmore, Cal Tech, Grinnell, Rice, Notre Dame, W&L, Richmond, CMS, Duke, Bryn Mawr, Chicago... 13 of the first 30 NOT New England colleges. So I think it's a stretch to call such a list, ``With very few exceptions, JUST a list of New England schools.''

Strange turn off focus on this board :)
Several comments in another slow week for Amherst MBB.
First....Saw Daly play....He is a BEAST.  His motor never seems to stop.  His quick feet and jumps serve him well.  Any thoughts from Midd posters wrt to PG backup?
Second....Unfortunately, there are NOT thousands of schools in the US and Canada that have endowments over 250 million US dollars.  There is an annual listing of US and Canadian colleges and universities that provides info of Fiscal Year Endowment returns of such schools...about 800, I recall.
The FY 2017 is not available yet.  FY2016 was NOT a good year for many schools so the ranking can change...changes in enrollment numbers can also impact a listing.  FY2016 was not a good year for Amherst, in particular.  I attended a meeting on the subject during Homecoming.  I was the Class Agent for my class for many years and my classmates gifts was a prime focus....as well as the fiscal health of the school.  I learned that Amherst had a fine FY2017.  I learned that Amherst has money in hand for its new Science building and it was on schedule.  This is pointed out because a high percentage of the student athletes come to Amherst to take courses in math and sciences, etc.  The cost of the new building is over 240 million dollars..more than 240 thousand sq.ft. The latest enrollment numbers at Amherst is holding at around 1800+. It should be pointed out that Harvard had only a 8.1% FY2017 return, got bad press and is presently making major changes in its investment personnel, etc.
Memory slipping...805 colleges and universities, US & Canada listed in the studies.
