Amherst has been suffering from a rash of injuries. Tim MCarthy may be unlikely to return. Against Eastern Connecticut State, freshma point guard Grant Robinson out with an ankle injury . Against Trinigty , Grant returend and was having excelent game with 18 points but then reinjured ankle and was out last five to ten minutes.
Tonite against Brandeis Grant out with ankle injury .
The good news tonight freshman point guard Garrett Day with 18 points, 8 assists, and Amherst rolled
Also sophomore Josh Chery was injured earlier this year and now is starting to return form.
Freshman Fru Che continuint stead play.
A difficult learning curve for Amherst with so many new players but hopefully now rounding into form
Grant Robinson may be back soon
Important weekend of basketball for Amherst

Thanks for this update - much appreciated.  The inevitable transition year has arrived for the Jeffs!

You mean, For the Mammoths.😉. Hard to let old mascots go, right? 😉

Somehow, I'm guessing that "JEFFFAN"'s use of Jeffs instead of Mammoths is not by accident ...

NESCAC is doing well overall this year.  But really, it is an entirely LEAGUE in transition, with many teams building towards the future.  Look at the individual scoring leaders: of the top 20, only TWO are seniors.  And only six of the top 40 are seniors.  Last year, 10 of the top 20 scorers, and 15 of the top 30, were seniors.  Dramatic difference in experience, which I think will also mean more unpredictable results from weekend to weekend.  Amherst, Midd and Wesleyan are cases in point -- all have really talented frosh who have exploded for huge performances in some games, then been largely absent in others.  Which is what you'd expect from first-year players, especially as they face the fire of conference play for the first time in their careers.

In the game on Friday night against Williams, I thought that the Cardinals played the best defense I've seen in quite a while from anybody in the NESCAC. Williams was pretty good on offense, but due to the tough D, could never really get in rhythm. Once again, the game ended up being played the way that Wes wanted it played.

You sure you're not describing the Middlebury-Wesleyan game the next day?

Hello NESCAC Friends,

I wanted to know if any Middlebury supporters could help me out with listing some good local hotels and eateries close to the Middlebury campus that an Albertus fan from southern CT might want to check out??

I'm planning on making the trip next week and it will be my first time visiting the area. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Very much looking forward to our matchup with the Panthers

Good Luck to all NESCAC schools in the second half. As usual your league looks like it is shaping up to be quite a finish!

I can't claim I'm a Middlebury supporter, but I've been to Middlebury for Bowdoin soccer games.  There's a decent Marriott right on the outskirts of town.  There's also the Middlebury Inn right in town, which is quaint and has several tiers of room types.

The rich get richer- Snow Panthers snag a promising big man. Alex Sobel 6'8" 215

I realize this is a handpicked highlight package, which I am always suspect of, but the fact is the kid looks like he can score inside with both hands facing the hoop or backing in, a nice thing so see on an incoming freshman big.  Let's hope he's not finished growing and matches Locke's height before that happens.  Russ Reilly will have fun with this guy.

And no question the kid will enjoy and benefit from working with Russ Reilly.
Russ is the consummate Panther but if you check the back of his closet you'll find some Garnet.

Reilly played basketball, at Bates, with my brother, in the mid 60s.

Russ Reilly, Bates '66, was the trainer and assistant basketball coach there (with time out for an M.A. at BU) until he came to Middlebury in 1977, spent a year as Tom Lawson's assistant, then was the head basketball coach for 19 years, was appointed Athletic Director (first decision was to fire the basketball coach, himself, and hiring Jeff Brown) and served as A.D. for nine years before retiring. He maintains a vigorous retirement life which includes being a volunteer assistant coach, working with the "bigs." In an article in the local paper in 2010, he was quoted: "I like to be involved. I like especially to work with these big guys. I get to know them as individuals, their strengths and weaknesses, their needs. I try to keep their minds on the task at hand, get them to believe in themselves." He's an important part of the positive dynamic that has developed in Middlebury hoop in the last decade or so.

Thanks Old Guy

I remember Russ's tenure at Bates very well and then followed his career and the great success he enjoyed at Middlebury. From my perspective it's pretty obvious there were many great successes in the Panther athletic department during his career. You would know much better but from my distant perspective I think of Hockey, Lacrosse and then Basketball all becoming perennial National title contenders to go along with an always strong Football program. You've got a phenomenal athletic program and it's got years of Russ Rielly's fingerprints all over it.

Good for Russ and Middlebury.

At Bates they say.......Russ Reilly, Jeff Brown, Mike Leonard......Why can't we get coaches like that!

Not sure where AMH63 is but I hope that the cheap shot taken by Jumpshot last week hasn't caused him to disappear from the site.   AMH63 - regardless of affiliation, I think I speak for a lot of folks on here in encouraging you to not disappear with your commentary!

Well said JEFFAN, couldn't agree more.

Not sure where amh63 is either, but he wouldn't back down to an insult.  He had a go-around with the infamous* "AlDavis" on the football board a few years back.  amh63 disarmed the aggressive Al and made him a friend.
Don't worry about amh63, he is no wallflower.

Realize I'm a bit late to the game with this but congratulations to Bowdoin's Jack Simonds for scoring his 1,000th career point against UM Presque Isle the other night.  Simonds became the 25th Bowdoin player to reach that milestone!
