Watched the Midd vs Plattsburgh game online too.  Painful wrt to the announcer who often had Midd players names wrong.  Seemed to me, Midd's HC was NOT happy with the officials.  Fast paced game and a lot of bumping and bouncing between players NOT called.  My summary of the game was the fouls.  The first half stats at halftime online showed that Midd did not have any foul shots.  The Cardinals had made 10 of 13 foul shots and was ahead by a few.  In the second half, Midd got to the foul line BUT missed to many foul shots.  Recall that Folger missed both his first two shots!
Otherwise,  it was a interesting game between two good ranked teams. HC of the Cardinals was doing a little dancing...happy mood...during the pre game period.

Midd lost because they got murdered on second chance points, points in the paint and by their own poor free throw shooting.

maineman....good points all.  53 percentage foul shooting by Midd  and losing the rebounding battle reduces one's chances to win a game wherever it is played...against a tough opponent.
Will be peeking in on two games tonight...Trinity vs Springfield and Emerson vs Tufts.  Future Amherst opponents.  The ECSU vs WCSU game is also an interesting game.

Trinity plays a solid defensive game tonight in Hartford.....beats Springfield with Mr. Ross in the game. Jake Ross had his left shoulder taped in green tape went 7-7 from the foul line...but was not in "game" shape.  He took a number of breaks.  He also took a bunch of shots but was closely guarded and often was prevented from taking his outside shots...did score in double figures.  Trinity goes to 6-2, while the Pride loses its 4th game.  Williams will be the next Nescac opponent...then Amherst.

I guess my rules knowledge is rusty - if there is a foul off ball simultaneous to a made shot it's a change of possession rather than an and-one??

What I saw was: Plattsburgh hit a three. Whistle. Foul on Midd away from the ball on the shot. Plattsburgh's ball on the baseline. They inbound and hit another three. Is that not right?

Old Guy.....that's what I recall.  Two threes made within a few seconds...as the announcer stated.

Yes.  If the shot is in the air, and the defense fouls a player, the offense gets the ball back, even if the shot is made.  You usually see this called on post players fighting underneath the basket.

The Plattsburgh player involved was #0 Ian Howard.  I noticed at least three and possibly four fouls away from the ball that he drew on Middlebury players.  All were timely.  His intelligent and scrappy style of play was the subject of conversation between Middhoops, magicman and I throughout the game.  Six of his eight rebounds were on the offensive end.  The 6'3" senior forward is second on the team in rebounds and his 38 offensive boards are the most of any Cardinal player, twice as many as second ranked Patron.

Good luck to the Polar Bears tonight as they travel to Lewiston to take on Bates in their annual non-conference match up.  Alumni Gym is always a tough venue but hopefully Monday's big win over Anna Maria has Bowdoin ready for the Bobcats.

Colby Hoops

Should be a bunch of interesting games tonight. Hamilton vs SUNY Polytechnic is the only cupcake of the bunch.

Will be at the Williams game, first time seeing them in person this year. Union is a really young team and missing their only senior who plays minutes. Think the Ephs should roll.

Look forward to hearing your Williams thoughs, Colby Hoops.

Colby-Gordon should be a really interesting game I'd say.  Gordon is 6-1, winners of six in a row, all by no fewer than 16 points.  Colby, similarly, is 7-1 with all seven wins by wide margins.  Gordon has a very big, tough, and experienced frontcourt.  It will be interesting to see how Colby can deal with Gordon's size up front.  Should be an interesting clash of styles.

Amherst-Babson is a big game as well.  Babson is certainly the best team Amherst has faced in its very weak early-season schedule.  Amherst and Babson have an incredible recent history of dramatic finishes.  Babson has already beaten up on three NESCAC squads, although they have been up and down and just lost to Brandeis.  They will probably need Jaworski, their top player who has missed the last two games, to play to have any chance.

The winner of Colby-Gordon is definitely no worse than a top ten team in New England I'd say.  Right now, that (very, very stacked) list probably goes something like this:

1. Williams 2. Hamilton 3. Nichols 4. Amherst 5. MIT 6. WPI, followed by a fairly even group (several of whom have beaten each other up a bit) fighting for the last few spots: Middlebury, Endicott, Gordon, Colby, Eastern Conn, Keene State.  I'd say Midd has the most upside of that group, but will need to string a few wins together over the course of December to break back into the top 5-6.

By the way, the top of the CCC looks as strong as it ever has this year, with Nichols, Endicott, and Gordon all having several big-time players.  The rest of the league is putrid, so all three could put up pretty large win totals this season.  I wouldn't be shocked to see three CCC teams in the NCAA tourney this year.

Oh, and thanks 7express.  Interesting!

Colby Hoops

I think Colby is going to have their hands full with Gordon. Will have to shoot it really well if they're going to win -- something they are capable of doing.

It's going to be hard to close out possessions and rebound against a team like Gordon with a 6'11" center and a very strong 6'6" power forward. For comparison Colby's leading rebounders are a 6'2" freshman and 5'9" point guard. Will be interesting to see how they handle it. Sean Gilmore is the only one with the size to match up, but I'd rather see Colby stay small and play five out, forcing Parker Omslaer to guard on the perimeter. There's a reason Colby has shot almost double the number of threes Gordon has this year!

JEFFFAN

Jeffs just got you know what slapped by a very young, tough Babson team.  I can't tell whether Amherst isn't that good- highly likely with this offense - or whether Babson is just damn good.  Probably both. Babson is very young but they pulled away after being four down midway through the second half to crush the Jeffs at Amherst.  The young played very old for Babson.   For now, a shake of the head and lots of applause for a Babson team dismantle my Jeffs.  Well done!
