Colby Hoops

Wild game in Waterville. Ty Williams hits a running bank shot over three defenders to beat Husson! Great moment for a kid who is not much of a scorer but usually contributes a lot with his passing and defense.

Only caught the last minute of the game but it seems Colby let a 14-point halftime lead slip away before pulling off the heroics. Sam Jefferson led the way with 29, but just about everyone scored effiicently in the 101-99 win.

It isn't a great Husson team, but they beat Bates and played Trinity closely. Still always fun to win at the buzzer!

Nice bounce back win for Williams, which built a 34 point lead before a long sloppy stretch in extended garbage time. While Oneonta isn't great, the team opened with a very different level of energy and enthusiasm than vs Midd, it was palpable.  That is the type of energy needed to open every game going forward, as slow starts had become a bad habit.    Best news for the Ephs was that Heskett and Scadlock both broke out of their recent slumps in a big way with stellar games.  Hopefully they can both continue to play like this, as we are accustomed to seeing, going forward.

The Ephs did struggle on the defensive glass in this one and need to do a better job boxing out.  The D was otherwise stellar.  Willians is still looking for more bench production, but Marc Taylor did have another very strong game.  I hope we see more of him.  Coach App did experiment with some more offensively-oriented second units.  Will be interesting to see if they can defend well enough to earn more time because the Ephs will need some bench scoring to get where they want to be.

ECSUalum, thanks..too...for the post of the game results.  Yes, it has been awhile that Amherst has beaten the Warriors.  I'm sure that the WBB team remember and learned from the lost to the Warriors this season.  However, we both know that height is not the key element in RBs but heart/effort and smarts....Rememer well Lindo's part in a win over the LJs.  Remember too, an EPH "center", about the height of Lindo that caused grief on the boards and floor.   Amherst has a player on the WBB team that is an all-American candidate...named Fox...only 5'7" that often is the top rebounder.
Anyway...good luck in the LEC...and if our teams both get into the post season, hope it is not in the same bracket, my friend :).

Colby Hoops...I too saw the ending of the Colby win at home.  The score indicate a run and gun type game.  Amherst plays Colby in LeFrak this Friday.  While Amherst can/will play a fast pace game, I expect a more deliberate offensive game from Amherst.  Colby is a worrisome team.

Amh63, I think it's a tough matchup for Colby. They are going to struggle to score at the rim against Amherst's size and the rebounding battle will be a tough one. Between Che, Allen, Robinson and Chery Amherst has the perimeter defenders to harass Colby's shooters. Sellew should have an opportunity for a big game offensively. Certainly anything can happen if Colby gets hot from outside, but I don't see it as a promising matchup for the Mules.

"Bank shot" — lucky shot? Did he call it? Hard to lose on a buzzer shot, especially if it was a fluke.

Definitely a lot of luck involved! Pretty good defense from Husson considering the circumstances, and a very tough loss for them. Game looked destined for OT. You can watch it here: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs_LUFpnHRw/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

I actually wouldn't argue luck ... there was a lot of skill in that shot. He knew he had to clear the defenders and you can see him take a look at where he wanted to go. He then squares himself up in the air, takes a moment, and releases a nice shot. Sure, there was bank ... but since when is that not supposed to be part of a good shot?

While it may have been "luck" because of the circumstances, I'm leaning 75% skill and 25% luck.

Very nice win for Colby over the Jeffs tonight.  Methodical, no doubt about it, led the whole second half victory.   Played great defense on an Amherst5 team that has no discernible outside offense at this point in time.   They either dump it in or Robinson tries to go one on one.  Neither worked very well tonight.   Good win for Colby.

Williams had its strongest performance in weeks, dominating Trinity from start to finish.  Trinity did not adjust its always-physical, hyper-aggressive and grabby style of defense to the very tight reffing, leading to an incredible 47 free throw attempts for Williams.  The Ephs on the other hand played its trademark stellar, disciplined defense, showing that the defensive effort in the Midd game was an aberration.

All four of the Ephs' big four had strong two-way games, and the rest of the rotation made a few collective threes, which was great to see.  In bad news, Marc Taylor, who has been playing great, suffered what seemed like a significant injury.  Hopefully he is OK and can return soon.  If not frosh Spivy and Jones will need to step up.

Shows what I know! Great win for the Mules to go on the road and beat a team that's been playing well. I wasn't able to catch the game, but that puts Colby right back in the mix for a spot in the NESCAC tourney.
