Correction: Bates may last until December 20th but the other 10 will be announced by Tuesday evening.

Two 5'8 guards commit to Amherst, both post-grads: Canin Reynolds and CJ Mitchell.  Canin was previously committed to Columbia so clearly followed Sears to Amherst ... perhaps a steal?   In all events interesting that the coach clearly is a fan of small, presumably quick guards.  Class of 2025 (including one player taking a gap year) will be a large one for the new coach.  The guards of course will be sitting for a year behind Robinson/Day/Allen, but will need to contribute starting their soph year.

Edit: see I was beaten to this news by 912!  Would be curious to hear more from
Amherst folks ...

Not sure if anyone saw it, but Bates has decided as an institution to not bring students back until beginning of February, or so.

They may try and play sports at some point, but the timing won't allow basketball to be ready and play enough games to become eligible before the NCAA Tournament.

Colby also added two guards today:

Nathaniel Godin, Central Catholic (MA

Jack Richard, Rivers School (MA)

Would have to imagine these commits are related to the early decision timeline, otherwise that is some coincidence!

Jack Boyle from Poly Prep is a two guard who is both a basketball and baseball player who ha commited to Amherst
maybe more of a baseball commit
Also heard rumors of another blg. man recruit for Amherst possibly from Florida?
not sure about this
I guess early decision letters are out

D3 Basketball912

I think Boyle is more of a baseball commit. He was on the varsity basketball team at Poly Prep for four years but baseball looks to be his main sport. Williams also took a two sport athlete this year in , Charles Wilmott, who seems to be more of a football than basketball commit. It will be interesting if other NESCAC basketball programs also take two-sport guys.

Ryker Vance is the Amherst big man from
FL.

jayhawk

yes I see two hours ago he noted on twitter his acceptance to Amherst
I knew I could count on NESCAC to fidn him

I have no idea myself but Sears in November said he was very high on Ryker Vance  6/8" with 7 foot wingspan
noted that he had two more slots and he was looking for players which I believe ended being the two guards

Canin Reynolds seemed to be highly respected in DC area

Also Sears said that felt good about Isa Maguire, the 6'10" frehsman from last year and was improving and was working with others

We will just have to see how it all pans out when they actually play games
lots of Nescac teamsn adding good players

Who really knows anything for another year, but it does seem like Coach Sears brought in an at-worst solid and potentially highly impactful group in his first year recruiting, so that has to be an encouraging sign for the Amherst faithful.  Amherst should no matter what be very good next season if as reported Robinson, Day, and McCarthy are all returning for a fifth year.  The bigger question going forward is whether the incoming recruits will be able to fill their shoes on the perimeter (along with Dev Allen and Will Phelan, unless they are taking a gap year) after next season ...

Seems that there is a lot of chatter wrt Amherst.  Will add some more info that I have found wrt HC Sears plans...recruits, style of play, players for next season , etc.  The path is as follows....Go to Amherst.edu...Go then to the Athletic site....go to men's basketball site.   There is an interview with HC Sears...he talks on his coaching experience, the players that will be available next season, the players that he is recruiting, etc.
Sears talks about his up tempo style of play, his recruiting of big front court players that can control the boards, etc.  Some stuff wrt to assistant coaches and family.

Nice summary of "recruits"  nescac1 :).  Now we all will await the plans for a Nescac MBB season.

This isn't NESCAC related, but I thought interesting nonetheless and nothing else going on anyway.  Swarthmore has clearly prioritized reversing decades of athletic apathy and building itself into a basketball powerhouse.  On the men's side, that has worked out insanely well thanks to an unbelievable hoops hire.  But on the women's side, the road seems to be a bit bumpier ...

WOW!
Thanks Nescac1.
Really creepy that those kids have to put up with that crap.
Talk about taking the joy out of a game they've loved since they were little.
How ironic that a school known as a bastion of liberalism and enlightenment would even tolerate putting up with these accusations and findings.
For the long term good of this program, the big S better reconvene & rethink this one.
Red lights are flashing, take the blinders off.
