Tufts had leads as large as 17 points, and even 6 points with a minute twenty remaining at home in front of a tough crowd of Jumbo fans. Toad did provide a knowledgeable warning ....Sweet win for Redlands, really bitter for Tufts.

Greek Tragedy

Quote from: jumbomumbo on March 08, 2025, 09:57:52 PMInsane. This isn't the reason we lost, but Refs need to call by the rule book. Redlands hits layup with .3 seconds left and 12 players storm the court, no technicals called.

We should have thrown the ball into the hands of an ineligible player, that would have earned the technical foul, they would have had to.

Tufts went into the half up 12 and shot 15/20 in the 2nd half and somehow lost.

It does remind me of another 1st round game when a player is running out the clock, but clearly traveling before time expires. No opposing player was near him, so I guess that might be why the ref didn't blow the whistle. Had he, the other team would've had a second or so to get a play off.

Incredible come back by Redlands. Mentioned Tufts going 15-20 in the 2nd half. Redlands was 22 of 36. The comeback win may have been tainted by the antics of some of their players. According to the announcers, sounded like some of them rushed over to the Tufts fan and were taunting them. After several coaches ran over and got them back to their bench, you can still see a few of the players taunting the home crowd with "L" hand gestures.

Ha they did much more than just hold
The L up, grabbing their junk in front of our student section and then continuing to taunt the players of tufts parents 30 mins after the game ended from across the gym.. Hope they enjoy the rest of the tournament because they won't get far in life with that kind of class. Conveniently for Redlands tufts Jumbocast has no posted the full game film yet. And it isn't floating around Twitter either. easy suspension call but that coach has a game to win, there will be no accountability. That coach has no control of his players and those kids will 100% do it again if they beat NYU to move on to final 4.

I don't know. Seems like Eric Bridgeland is a pretty well respected guy, especially after his years building the Whitman program. I can't imagine he would let his players act like that all the time. Never seen them play before. West coast, past my bedtime.

My best judgement is it is past his control, those kids will do what they want

I agree with this sentiment, but this has been a complaint of opponents dating back at least to Whitman.

Interesting. Other teams have complained about Bridgeland-led teams in the past? Not a great look for him then.

Especially considering it should have cost them a technical foul when 12 players rushed the court with time on the clock and tufts searching for a shot. Safe to say those refs seasons also ended last night, no shot they deserve to ref a sweet 16 game

That's crazy re: the rushing the court.  Simply can't allow that with time on the clock.  Is there a video?

I am sure no one in the Tufts student section said anything inappropriate all night. The parents thing is bad but let's not pretend like that student section is full of angels

Here you go!

Update: here's a better one, as there are clearly more than 5 Redlands players on the court as tufts inbound pass is in the air. Those refs should be ashamed of themselves. Also a Redlands player clearly had his foot on the line for 4 free throws and they just simply will never call that but rules are rules. In the last clip you can see the beginning of the taunting which conveniently cut out about 45 seconds short

Same thing happened in the CCIW title game - player traveled celebrating the win before the horn.  No call.

Although I thought perhaps the clock started a little slow at Tufts.  I was surprised he had enough time to even get to the rim.  It's funny that they'll review how much time was left on the clock, but rarely to they review whether the clock started on time to begin with.  Seems like both are important when we're talking tenths, right?

They should have absolutely stopped the clock to review at least the time remaining as there was 0.6 seconds when it went in, clock said 0.3. They should have went to the booth and allowed tufts at least a chance with 0.6.... No idea if they can review for players on the court but definitely a triple gut punch way to go out with the double buzzer beaters and bad officiating.

My son just had the same thought that someone posted earlier, that Tufts should have hit one of those bench players with the inbounds pass to force a call.

Nothing excuses taunting of fans or parents by Redlands players. That should not happen, ever. Without making excuses for Redlands, I have personal knowledge of the verbal behavior of the group of Jumbo fans in question when Williams played Tufts. They are the most graphic, profane fans currently in the league. The visiting team hears them clearly from across the court. I do wish Tufts would police that a bit. It is in very poor taste. I actually like Tufts (even you Jumbo!), but this is an aspect of Jumboland that could use improvement.

Fan behavior in the NESCAC has varied over the years. Once, maybe 7-8 years ago at Wesleyan, the football team sat behind the Williams bench and got so profane and disgusting that complaints were made that made all the way to the top and the Wesleyan president had to apologize to the Williams president. In the 1990s, it was commonplace for profane drunk students to be kicked out of games all over the league.
