Where I was sitting across the way from them, so I couldn't quite hear. But it seemed like the crowd (looked like football guys, they were big guys) were just being loud and from what I could tell were somewhat taunting a few UR players. Curry and Gates were catching it the most, but they were interacting back with the crowd. I thought it was good natured ribbing, I saw that during the NESCAC tournament with Alex Lee, and he pointed towards them once and that was it. But the game was emotional, guys hitting shots to save their careers, diving on the floor, fouls everywhere, it was physical. And when you get to a point where it all climaxes at the end like that, the emotional toll just comes out with what happened at the end. The UR guys were excited and showed it, and the Tufts fans just saw their friends hearts ripped out. I think it was all pretty perfectly understandable.

Can always count on TuftsSit to tell it how it is and for Mumbo to stir the pot a little bit

My daughter played lax at Midd.  Tufts fans (and parents) were by far the worst in NESCAC (and second only to Salisbury nationally).

Having played for tufts for 4 years I can honestly tell you it was an empty gym in 90% of games, sure we may get a bad rap for the big games but if you're an away team this is what you should get up for. Redlands did and they brought it to us

So she happened to think that the fans were worst at two of the only schools that really compete with Midd in that sport? Shocking! These boards have become way too much of a place to complain about player/fan behavior...and it always happens to be in big games. I'll give you a hint from the student perspective: none of them care. It is simply part of sports these days. In fact, I think most elite, competitive athletes enjoy it.

If Tufts students are really that much worse than at other schools, then maybe all that says is that a lot of their teams are competing in important games, they like sports, and in terms of NESCAC, that they're a larger school. Honestly I think having a rowdy student section is great for college sports, let's stop beating the same drum, painting it in a negative light.

Rowdy and respectful are not mutually exclusive. Back when Midd really had it rolling Pepin was a nightmare to play in and I don't remember anyone having bad things to say about them. Don't remember any issues at Amherst either off the top of my head for big hoops games and Williams has lost plenty of big games to both

Right. If you want to hear real student section chirps go to a Providence vs Georgetown basketball game, or any d1 rivalry for that matter

Predictions. It's the sweet 16 so anybody can now beat anybody so no real upsets.

Wesleyan 78 WPI 62. I think Wesleyan wins fairly easy. I think WPI will have issues guarding Wesleyan, especially on the wings. Callahan is a great guard, if he does guard Regan, not sure he can guard him in the paint. Callahan cannot afford to get into foul trouble. I think Wesleyan has the height advantage and advantage in the paint. All that said, if WPI shoots it very well, they will have a shot.

Trinity 70  Western New England 60. I think this game will be much closer, but Trinity will wear them down and pull away some at the end. They played earlier this year. It was a 3 point game at Western New England. Trinity did not shoot the ball that well that day. Don't see that happening again. But Western can play very tough defense.

Should be great atmosphere in both gyms!

WPI89

I feel like I should stay away after my dopey question about the brackets, but quick question: Will Wes be sold out this evening?

It was sold out for a regular season game vs Tufts and for the nescac semi's and finals. So you can bet on it

SpringSt7

Wesleyan is on spring break and didn't fill it up last week so it probably will be but I don't think it's a guarantee

jumbomumbo

Mumbo's half-a**ed predictions because the model is heartbroken about the Jumbo's loss.

WPI 69-65 over Wesleyan. If anyone can guard Wesleyan, it is WPI and Trinity. They absolutely shut down tufts stars, and run a really precise offense. Engineers get a big one.

Trinity 77-70 over WNE. WNE played Trin very close (70-67) at the beginning of the year and both of these teams have only gotten better.
The trin home crowd and toughness wears the Golden Bears down over time. Trin has a one possession lead before the foul game ensues and Vetter clutches up at the line.

nescac1

I feel like Trinity is on a roll and will be up for this one.  I think they win by 15.

WPI and Wesleyan I think goes down to the wire with Johnson and Regan taking over late for a four point win.
