Great post Shea! You could get the bleachers themselves fired up to play!

Here's to the Madness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CCsalive

Shea is scouting in the Liberty League room...I love it...you mean Plattsburgh wouldn't Fed-Ex the tape!? Go Hamilton!

shea

Um, I never requested a Fed Ex from Plattsburgh.  I asked about the game because I was curious about the tempo.  Hamilton has won plenty of low scoring games, too, so I don't think tempo is the key to their success.  I was just wondering if it was a P-burgh game plan or a Hamilton game plan.  As for the defense, I was assuming it was man to man considering Hamilton hit the three ball with impunity against Union's zone.

I have never heard bleachers cheer.

Shea-I'm just poking you! ;)

You were able to do that in 4 minutes??? Good for you, I am impressed. You just reitterate my point that looking at common opponents isn't good for much. Some teams have off days and some teams have on days, and those days might fall right on the game/s you are comparing.

I was able to do it in about five seconds.

I feel a little embarassed...but I also wanted to include a NESCAC connection. Your way of doing it is still way better than mine. Thanks for the helpful link.

Walzy,

Hoops has been doing this for quite some time now.  Don't feel ashamed about that.

Good win for the Jumbos.  I love how O'Keefe goes for 18 after a few of us questioned him.  Good for him, keep it up.

Can I get a line on the 'Herst game?

Former Bant- I more or less agree with the selection of Rhoten as POY. My reasons are perhaps a little different from yours but I think that you kind of shortchanged Bedford while arguing for Rhoten.
2003/2004. Take a look at the close games v the good competition and then especially take a look at the Tourney games. It might give  you a different perspective as to how important Bedford actually was. I am well aware that numbers do not tell the whole story but in the games I am talking about Bedford's numbers seem FAR better than Schiel's.
In 2004/2005 their numbers are very similar. Haprper was gone and so Schiel moved into the spotlight and did a pretty good job, including his efforts in the "Big" games. However, as you have said, numbers do not tell the whole story.Personally, from watching a fair number of games I thought that Bedford was the 'Big Dog' and that Schiel was the 'Tall Dog'
As far as Bedford v Rhoten this year-I can see how Rhoten should have been named POY but on the other hand I wonder if it is not an advantage for a team to have a Bedford vs. a Rhoten, over the long haul of a season. Does having a Bedford result in everyone giving 100% a greater percentage of the time??? When a team has a Superstar as Rhoten was, does that result in some team members sometimes maybe relaxing a bit, figuring that somehow Rhoten will 'get it back'?? Do players sometimes say to themselves something like 'The ball will probably go into Rhoten (or a player of his caliber) and the chances are WE will get at least something out of it-they don't really need 100% from me this time. think I'll take a breather'
I believe things like that happen a lot. Can I prove it? No. Can I quantify it? No. Therefore I have to agree with Rhoten as the POY. A tremendous talent who I thoroughly enjoyed watching and fearing (as a fan) I am glad he came to Trinity/NESCAC and I hope more players with his kind of talent do the same. I might add I always thought he was giving his all.

Tufts-Cortland tomorrow.  I just took a look at Cortland's roster and noted one immediate problem: not too much size there.  Looks like they run one, maybe two guys over 6'5" in the rotation.  Dan Martin had a great game tonight vs. Endicott.  I wonder if Cortland will be able to stop him down low.  If he gets going again, we could see Tufts in the Sweet Sixteen.

formerbant10

Senator,

If I'm shortchanging Bedford in this forum it's only because there are so many Amherst posters and very very few Trinity ones.  Bedford is a very good player.  I have a ton of respect for him and his game.

I understand your point that sometimes with a player like Rhoten, some of his teammates become more of spectators because of how talented offensively he is.

There are definitely advantages to having someone like Bedford on your team, but there are also advantages to having someone like Rhoten on your team as well.  I like both players, but I felt that Rhoten had a better individual season than Bedford....again.

As for Tufts/Cortland, Trinity beat Cortland in the first game of the year and Cortland then went on to win pretty much every game they played in for a few months.  I still like Tufts.  Too big, too much scoring.  If O'Keefe has another good game, that gives them 5 huge threats.  I think they should do well.

bed

if hamilton played amherst 10 times, Amherst would win 7 or 8 times.

The question is:  Will tonight be one of the 2 out of 10 times Hamilton has a shot to win the game?

I don't think so..........but as posters have said above......that's why the play the games.
