Pat, I think I was careful to thank you for the karma love and not complain about it.

In a smart-ass way. Nobody is fooled by that.

I was fooled...

Drew Cohen is a MONSTER. Can't imagine what he'd be like with more talent around him...

Just mentioning your own karma in some form or another gets it killed.  Notice I've been doing an experiment over the last month and I've been losing karma by the handful.

Oops.  You caught me.  I'll have to work on my subtlety.  In my defense, I'm making these posts during short breaks in my real work day.  It's not like watching this board is my full-time job...

Formerbant,

Good call on Cohen's monster game.  He was a beast.  I was there and sitting behind the statkeeper so I saw what he had for stats throughout the game - he had 24 and 13 at halftime and then had 35 pts with 8 mins to go, but didn't see the ball much after that.  Also, he was credited with 9 blocks but I swear it was more like 13-14, the statkeepers missed a few.

Besides that it was a fairly sloppy game on both ends, Colby got hurt by their lack of depth due to some injuries.

Nick Farrell is still the most underrated PG in the league.

formerbant10

I believe the 13-14...he often does not get credit for all of his blocks.

Farrell is having a great year for Colby, but even with his increased output and Cohen's inside dominance...it'll be tough for the Mules to do a lot of damage.  But they will spoil somebody's season, believe that.

Not my full-time job either. D3hoops.com/D3football.com has zero full time employees.

Well, I guess after wasting an afternoon discussing my "thing that must not be named" we've all finally found something that's falling faster than the Williams Hoops program...

I can't believe I'm getting paid to do this.  Hahaha.

Anyway...back to hoops.

Predictions for this weekend:

Friday:

Bowdoin over WILLIAMS
Colby over MIDDLEBURY
Amherst over TUFTS
Trinity over BATES....all the home teams go down

Saturday:

MIDDLEBURY over Bowdoin
WILLIAMS over Colby....tired after the traveling for the Maine squads
WESLEYAN over Conn
Amherst over BATES
Trinity over TUFTS

Wes Tech has a more experience than Conn.  Trinity and Amherst use their depth on the 2nd day to come away with a sweep (If all goes as planned).

does tufts have any chance against amherst on friday? ive seen tufts twice (and i think theyre solid) but have yet to see amherst.

dman

nice win for former williams assistant josh loeffler and his stevens team over tufts who are now 7-4.....

What is going on with the Jumbos?  It looks like they still aren't playing the same defense they played last year.  Stevens put a lot of points down on them this weekend, and William Patterson scored more than they usually do.

First, condolences to Adolphe Coulibaly.

Turning to hoops, I am surprised Tufts hasn't been stronger -- on paper, Pierce seems to be replacing Martin's numbers, and everyone else is back, plus a few pretty good frosh, strange.   They have played the toughest schedule in the league, but still, it looks like they'll need to win the league tourney to make the NCAA's.  I figured Bowdoin would be the team to struggle with the loss of a star who carried the team, but they seem to have found a way to replace Petrie's production and look better and more balanced overall than last year.   Same with Trinity and Rhoten.

Dman, is there any hope for the Ephs to ever shut up the ever-growing throng of Amherst folks on this board anytime in the near future?  For a team that relies so heavily on the outside shot, you'd think they would be closer to 40 percent from downtown ...  only Shalvoy seems to be shooting well this year.  Or will Eph fans have to settle for the memory of annual poundings in football and continued domination in women's hoops and soccer to tide us through, at the very least until the class of 08 graduates?   I mean, I guess I'm spoiled, but I kind of liked it when Williams dominated Amherst in EVERY sport ... (by the way, Amherst fans, feel free to come over to the football board next fall and start talking some smack over there ... ).   At least the frosh big gives SOME hope for the future ... you figure he'll add some muscle and inside touch, which will help him finish inside and defend as he matures, and he already appears to be a strong rebounder.  And you can't teach 6'8.

As for Paulsen, he is a bit, ummm, intense on the sideline, but Sheehy was the exact same way and it didn't hurt his recruiting ... but who knows, one of the ten theories (or some combination of them) about the Ephs' struggles of late put forth on the board must ring true.

Oh, one other point, to the poster who went off on the Ryan Baskauskas thing, check out some of Amherst's other box scores, apparently he is listed like that in half the games he plays.  It doesn't seem to affect his play either way ...

Interesting picks FormerBant, but I'll disagree on a couple...

I like Conn. over the Methodists. Wes is too poor from the FT line, and will give up too many rebounds to Mr. Stone. Look for him to have a field day inside...

Colby won't be losing to Williams, travel or no travel. Like previously stated, Cohen is a MONSTER and will teach the big Eph freshmen a thing or two around the hoop.

LOVE the Amherst, Trinity road sweeps. Too much depth on both squads, even with some Jeffs on the DL... Congrats to Kino for POTW.

LOVE Midd. bouncing back on day 2 for the win over a weary Bowdoin.

Rumor has it that Goldsmith was seen in the Amherst weight room with no cast, no boot, no brace... If the Jeffs have him back for the tournaments it just adds more toughness. Despite him playing the 5 last year for the Jeffs, he's definitely more of a 3 or 4 and will be able to play there with Hops and BJones playing so well.

formerbant10

R. Kelly is still in uniform for the Methodists... so, I don't see Stone rolling over them so easily.  If they get good games out of Ashe and Shepherd, I think they take the Camels.

Colby-Wiliams will depend a lot on the night before.  If Colby's big guns have to play a lot of minutes the night before, it may be tough for them to get back up for the next game.....but I'd rather see "Treyball" take out the Ephs.

As for Tufts' defensive woes...some of that may have to do with losing Martin. Having that presence in the middle allows perimeter defenders to gamble more/play aggressively with the confidence knowing that their mistakes can be erased by the big guy.
