perhaps b/c most nescac athletes you know went to trinity. sorry, i couldn't resist.

you're right. i shouldn't lump everybody/school together. my point is that athletes at duke, stanford, uva, etc. are not receiving the same education - that doesn't mean that they are not as smart as those attending their respective colleges or athletes attending nescac schools, but i do not think that they are able to get the most academically from these schools that non-athletes do. that's all.

Nice one.  There are very few scholar athletes at any school who are able to get the most out of those institutions as the non-athletes (but as I said, there are exceptions to everything).  That's just how it works.  If those players had as much free time to study (not saying they would) as non-athletes, I'm sure they could get a lot more, academically, out of those schools.

I don't think 15 is a NESCAC record....check with The Historian, he was compiling the records.  I'm pretty sure Jesse Farrell had a 15 assist game, maybe against Coast Guard...regardless, still extremely impressive.

Bowser is very good at scoring in the post. Despite his modest height, Jake would make a decent power forward.

fpc85

Jeffs shoot 62% and 53% from 3. 5 of top 7 players shot atleast 50%....Hopkins, Jones, Wheeler and Baskauskas go 27-35 from the field ...unreal! Bring on Middlebury.

Your post is pretty moronic . last year Stockwell did guard Weitzen .
Being a Jumbos fan , I dont really care for your stupid Bowser , Pillsbury
commets about a great player > When are you playing Weitzen one on one ?
And if you continue to learn, Weitzen does play the 4 as does Stockwell !!
Don`t be a hater .

with all due respect please check with coach Sheldon .
Kumf is the 3

Friar T

Regardless of 3 or 4, I was simply saying that Pillsbury's strengths do not lie with his back to the basket. As most will back me up on this, I have NEVER hated on Bowser's talent. In fact, I feel I've always been one of his biggest supporters. DUDE CAN PLAY! Don't mistake my wordplay for hating. I've got nothing but the utmost respect for Dr. Doughnut...

That being said, apology accepted...

I'm gonna go out on a limb and take the Jumbos on the road this weekend. I feel they're too deep (hasn't gotten enough credit), and provide matchup problems for the Bobcats.

good post regarding the depth of Tufts. Eventhough I dont always agree
with coach Sheldon substitution pattern he definitly plays alot of people .

Aaron Gallant is a great defensive guard , Pat Sullivan a 6'9" center who brings some size ,
jeremy Black who is the cockiess player in the league & freshamn Dave Beyel
who bring hustle , shooting & size to the squad.

Who are Bates big men other than Stockwell & can anyone else score
other than him , Wholly & Ray ?

formerbant10

I'll take the Jumbos as well.

eclinchy

I would hesitate to call Aaron Gallant a "great defensive guard" after last weekend.  Patrick and Kino really lit him up -- I'm pretty sure Ogrodnick (sp?) picked up on that immediately, because he was exploiting it throughout the first half.  Hence those two players scoring practically all of the Bants' first-half points. :)

But still, I definitely agree with all of the posts about the Jumbos' depth.  Black and Pierce have been excellent off the bench, and I really like Beyel.  He's the next Kumf -- a guy who's only 6'4", 215-220ish, but he's not afraid to play like he's a lot bigger than that, going after tough rebounds and playing stingy D against big guys.

I will take the Jumbos simply because I don't think Bates can score enough.  Stick a good defender like Kumf or Beyel on Stockwell, and the Bobcats will be in trouble.  The Jumbos have too many weapons, and they're all hot right now.

MeOak21

If all of Tufts weapons are hot right now, why have they lost 3 of their last 4 games???

eclinchy

"Right now" meaning coming off of this weekend.  In case you didn't notice, they just took the No. 2 team in the nation to overtime, and then beat a 12-1 team by 17 points.  I believe that qualifies as being hot.  Thanks for trying to pick a fight, but next time, try harder than that.

My family went to the Bates/St. Joe's game last night and I got a message about the game. Bates won 89-80 despite, it sounds like, Rob and Wholey not playing all that well. I guess Halloran was on fire (box score says 24 pts, 6-8 on 3's) and O'Keefe and Sam Taylor each chipped in almost ten. Wholey scored 17 (not sure why my fam didn't think he played well...he did have 4 TOs and shot 6-12 on FTs, maybe that's why), Zak had his usual kind of line and strangely led the team in rebounding (which he does once or twice a year). Rob had 4 rbs, O'Keefe none, so it looks like it was kind of a strange game underneath. Naturally, trying to apply any of this to the Tufts matchup is kind of pointless--Taylor won't be that productive against better big guys, and Halloran doesn't often reach double digits against NESCAC teams because he's undersized--but it was encouraging to see Bates score some points, for once. Now they just need to find out how to do that against the Jumbos.

MeOak21

Easy buddy, chill for a minute. I am aware that Tufts is a very good team and yes, they did give Amherst a tough game...
Good teams get up for big games- such as the one against Amherst.

Someone might be looking for a fight but I was just stating a fact.
