mrmike, friar, jeffrookie and fcp: i'm sorry, but your banter about how good olson/amherst looked against elms college, a school that just allowed males (a men's basketball team) a couple years ago, is silly and almost embarrassing to amherst to further acknowlegde that this team is actually on the jeff's schedule. i am not an olson hater and have even suggested that he should get POY honors over cohen. however, i would be much more impressed if he was able to do this last weekend against real competition. i nearly bent over laughing at the comment that "hopkins beat the elms team down the floor" - i would question his speed if he couldn't. who cares about stats/performances against elms college? i'm not saying 15 assists is an easy task but i think you get my point. last weekend his assist/turnover ratio was about 1.5:1, a far cry from his 15:1 last night - he made up for it last weekend in points vs. tufts but i think you get my point.
if you still don't get my point, ill tell you a true story...
i play in a league in nyc against other companies. most of the guys are 35-40+. i average around a triple double with 25, 10, and 10 a game. last night i dunked over a guy old enough to be my father and beat everybody up the floor. nobody could stop me - i must be amazing.

Pat Coleman

This is the ninth season of Elms basketball. I don't think it's really "a couple of years ago" anymore.

eclinchy ,
Once again please check the stats - Aaron Gallant played 8 minutes
against Trinity & was brought in because Kino & P. Martin were unstopable .
You seem to see games much diffrently than I do .

How can you blame Gallant for not playing defense HE PLAYED  8 MINUTES !!

To add to Pat's comment....Elms has a very good coach and they have been to the NCAA tournament recently.  They have even had a player lead all of DIII in a statistical category...John Ancrum in assists.

d3bballinboston

well part of the reason why elms is on amherst's schedule is because t hey both are very close to each other.  Amherst and Springfield are pretty close. Afterall who else would want to travel any further to go to Amherst and probally get beat pretty badily.

Elms has been to two straight NCAA tourney's I think two years ago they almost one their first game if my memory serves me right.

Go Ephs!

mrmike88

Also - don't hate on just Amherst for playing Elms.  You might want to include Bates, WPI, and Brandeis, all of whom have played the Blazers already this season.

nescac hoops

i really do not want to go into further detail about an 8-6 elms college team. olson will not have 15 assists and 1 turnover against williams on saturday...or against midd/rudin on friday - that's all i'm trying to say.

feces, that's hilarious....that's actually what some of the old men look like. they have no answer for me out there!

d3ballin and mrmike,
my problem isn't so much with amherst playing elms (they did make it tourny a couple years back, albeit in a VERY weak conference), but my problem is with people talking about how great amherst/olson is based on how they played against elms (a very mediocre team THIS year). yes, bates played elms. but nobody from bates came on this board talking about how ray/stockwell/bates, etc. is "unreal" good based on how their performance was against a team like elms.

formerbant10

There are more Amherst posters in here than any other school.  Olson had a very good game and they are proud of that.  Can't knock 'em for showing the guy some love after a performance like that.

La Verdad

It seems congratulations are in order...Congrats to Amherst on a big win against elms, Congrats to Andrew Olson on setting the single game assist record for Amherst, and congrats to you nescac hoops; a triple double is very rare and averaging one is almost unheard of!!!  Only a Williams guy would chastise the Amherst fans for posting stats from a game against a "mediocre" oppenent and then ever so casually drop stats from a rec league.  My money is on 25 blks, 10 rebounds, and 10 assts, am I right???  I bet you don't even take jumpers bc it wouldn't be fair.  But not even you can pass up the chance to dunk on an old man?  In the words of country legend Garth Brooks, you are "shameless."

nescac hoops

verdad,
you're an idiot. really, you are. my rec league stats were a joke/comparison. read my other posts - i have only repsect for amherst/olson...it's you amherst posters that are shameless about bringing up stats /accolades from games against colleges that people outside of western mass probably don't even know exist. garth brooks admittingly had an affair when he was married and was rumored to have physically abused his wife - he is shameless.

YoungSnukes

nescachoops,
you have some serious issues buddy. seek help.

Ya Boy

La Verdad

First of all, Garth Brooks is a legend, so don't drag his name through the mud with your "rumors."

Isn't the point of this forum talking about stats/accolades/ basketball games that nobody outside of Western MA cares about???

Maybe I'm not the idiot...

CCsalive

...thrilled to miss the "arrogance" posts,  the Elms debate, as well as rec league stats.

Doesn't anyone else agree that it is a guarantee that either Bates, Trinity, or Tufts will lose an additional game to someone other than Amherst and each other? Trinity or Bates can't lose a road game in this league?

man, nescac hoops, you're a kill joy. Let us have some fun with a blow out. I'm sorry the Ephs could only beat the woe-begone Cal Tech team by 20, but let us have some fun with our 30 point blow outs. Its also worth mentioning that Elms has been to the NCAAs each of the last two seasons. Can anyone in your league say that?

and it wasn't like the olson stat was just any other stat- it was a single game record. surely we cant be blamed for mentioning that?
