jeff rookie,
i think amherst has had enough fun already with the cream puffs they played in november and december. i hardly consider myself a "joy kill" for the 2nd ranked team that played some very weak teams and has pounded them. just because elms made the tourny (WEAK conference) does not mean that they are good NOW. williams has made it to 4 of the last 10 (or so) final fours and won the national championship in 2003. however, that doesn't mean that they are a good team NOW. no team is good based on how well they did in years prior.

I said kill joy, not 'joy kill.' Don't misquote me. Secondly, i still dont see how any of that means you have to get on amherst posters for enjoying an easy win. How are they bothering you? You are more than welcome to post stats from Williams' win over Cal Tech.

As for Amherst's schedule, the only thing seperating us from Tufts is playing Keene State. I think if Trinity(tx) had been as good as they usually are, we could be talking about the Jeff's schedule as being one of the most difficult in the conference. I know I dreaded this year's schedule because we have to play all of our important NESCAC games on the road. Away against Tufts, Bates and Trinity, and we also still have to play on the road against RIC.

Congrats to Zak Ray for notching his 1,000th point tonight! Not bad for a guy who isn't really a scorer.

Bates defeated Husson 70-55. Apparently they didn't look all that good, but the box score looks pretty normal except Zak scored a little more than normal and Rob a little less (non-conference PGs rarely keep up with Zak). O'Keefe and Wilson looked good, Wholey and Halloran appear to have been subpar by the box score. Halloran in particular is starting to bug me--seems like 2 of 3 games he doesn't score at all, but the one he does he can't miss. I'm not a fan of streaky shooters.

Re: Schedule - I'd make a modest argument on the legitimacy of Middlebury's non-conference schedule. While there are a couple of extremely weak teams (Mt. Ida; Green Mountain), Middlebury does play a half-dozen New York schools, which makes sense given their proximity: St. Lawrence, RPI, Union, Hamilton, Skidmore, Plattsburgh. These are teams Middlebury should be playing.

Two of their three losses this year have been to teams in this group (St.L, RPI). Skidmore's very weak this year - some years they've been pretty good.

Speaking of the 1000-point mark, Weitzen now stands at 954 career points after tonight's win over UMass Dartmouth.  The Jumbos' next two games are at Bates and home against Wheaton, and the Wheaton game is the only one at home for a long time.  I've been saying for a while that I hope he gets there against Wheaton, but 46 in two games is a lot.  I'm hoping he goes nuts on Tuesday night at Cousens (and a huge game against Bates wouldn't hurt either :)).

tufts over umass dartmouth 82-79.
okeefe 20, weitzen 15 and 10, gallant chipped in nicely with 8 off the bench.

closer than tufts would have liked im imagining, but a tough game to play considering it is sandwiched in between emotional nescac weekend and bates game saturday.

6 of next 7 games are on the road for the 'bos.

I'd also like to throw out the invitation again to all our posters for more stats.  I don't have any numbers from Middlebury, Wesleyan, or Conn and very limited numbers from Williams.  Perhaps you could contact your SID.  Whatever you get, you can pass along to me and I'll compile with what I already have.

Never understimate the power of d3sports.com.   The Wesleyan records magically appeared on their website recently.

Can an Eph fan help me?  I'm prepping for tomorrow's Amherst-Williams game, and I have no idea how to properly pronounce "Geoghegan."  I don't want to butcher the poor guy's name on the air...

nescac hoops

the way i heard it pronounced, though this may not be the right way either, is "go-gay-gun". i'm sure you could go up to paulsen before the game and ask, he is always good for a witty comment.

walzy31

I have returned from my travels to the corners of the country. Just in time to predict the obvious 2-0 weekend for Amherst.

Today:

Amherst 93
Middlebury 71

Tomorrow:

Amherst 76
Williams 51

Two nailbiters.
Go-Gay-Gun??? hah

Woooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Woooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I cannot begin to tell you how quickly I would take Middlebury at +22.

You'd think Amherst fans would be a bit more humble after getting taken to overtime by a 7-4 team, no?

mrmike88

Pat, any plans for tomorrow's Amherst-Williams games?  WAMH decided to cover men's hockey tonight - it's a bigger game for them.   :o

But with that said, we have both ends of the Saturday doubleheader.  The women tip off at 2:00, the men following some time around 4:00.  Tune in: http://wamh.amherst.edu/

If walzy says we will win by 22, we will win by no less than 17.

Mike, I'm itching to join you at the announcer's table. I don't remember missing this much of the season last year. Damn interterm. Hope the thesis is going well.
