formerbant- russ martin is a very good player putting up nice numbers this year. like rudin for midd, martin is an important piece for the bants. i believe, though, that losing a point guard is more difficult to recover from than losing any other position on the court. i do not mean to argue which player is better, by no means am i opening up that pandora's box, they're both good and it's apples and oranges because they play such different positions. but losing a point guard, despite that backup dowd stepped up with almost 20 points against Trinity, changes the whole pace, rhythm, and timing of a team.

friday night at amherst looks like it was a great game. midd turned a 40 minute game into a 3 or 4 minute game, on the road, and a few possessions made the difference down the stretch. amherst stayed poised at home, like a championship team would. i expect/hope the two teams to play later in the season. they match up well together.

pepin gym will be raucous this weekend. i'm not sure if amherst fans realize this, but you guys are not alone in hating williams. everybody does.

to me there is nothing more humiliating than having a rival who doesn't even know/care it's a rivalry. it's kind of like the whole wesleyan vs. amherst/williams in the little 3. yes, technically wesleyan is in the little 3 but ask any amherst/williams athlete what game they look for first when the schedule comes out....it's not the cardinals. i wasn't aware that midd considered williams to be a rival until i saw a kid with a shirt that said, "amherst sucks...williams swallows".  i asked the kid where he got the shirt, assuming it would be wesleyan, and was shocked to hear him say he got it at middlebury. it was all news to me.

nescac hoops- come on bro, come on. you are ridiculous. although williams basketball has dominated middlebury basketball this century (although one program is on the decline and one is on the rise, hint hint), think about the other sports. think about soccer, hockey, lacrosse. all of the many other sports the two teams play. think about how they are always so close in the directors' cup (i think that's what it's called). maybe the kid from your story wasn't a hoops player/fan. middlebury and williams are two premier athletic/academic schools and they are playing partners. please, please.

weezy never said midd and williams were rivals, he just said everyone hates them. thats partly a compliment cause it means ur good. partly its a reflection on the kids at williams. MUTANTS

weezy,
come on bro, i never said that middlebury wasn't good at sports. they are very good at sports. in many sports, they are in fact better than williams. that wasn't my argument, bro. my arguement is that they are not rivals - or at least to williams they are not. to williams, they are just another nescac team that is good at a lot of sports. they do not hate middlebury like middlebry apparently hates them. definetely, not t-shirt worthy.

the best williams homecoming t shirt i ever saw was one when williams football was playing wesleyan. it said, "who is wesleyan? amherst sucks." that's not to say that wesleyan's football team wasn't good (though they probably weren't), but just that for williams, amherst is much more important game. in the meantime, it was also an insult/smack in the face to wes tech.

the only reason midd and williams are playing partners is b/c hamilton is no longer in the nescac. bates and tufts are traveling partners....however for bates, colby and bowdoin are their big rivals. in other words, traveling partners do not mean the two teams are rivals. please, please.

Weezy,

You're right that losing a PG is usually worse than losing any other position.  It's also worse when a guy can only play 1 minute of the game compared to half the game.  Sorry if I was unclear about that before.

But again, I don't know how much of a difference he would've made...but then again I wasn't at that game, nor the Amherst game the night before to see how Rudin played.  And I'm biased towards Trinity and would like to believe that they would've won no matter what.

La Verdad

Amherst is up 58-27 at the half.  Hixon cleared the bench already.  Hopkins' line 6 min. 6 points 5 blocks...I think it goes without saying that S. Vermont is not a very good team.  As for the radio brodcast, it leaves a little to be desired, but I like the effort.

I knew SVC vs. Amherst wouldnt be a game. Almost 50 points!!!!! Amerst should really consider playing tougher opponents. They may be 18-0 but some of their games were against cake teams. Although 18-0 is still impressive but I think even if Hixon was in the line up in his wheel chair they still could of beat SVC!!!!!!

mrmike88

Tough to do a game like that, especially when it seemed to me like So. Vermont wasn't even trying on defense tonight.

Injury report: Dan O'Shea's fingers are no longer in a splint.  Matt Goldsmith is walking without a limp.  Coach Hixon was out of the wheelchair tonight, and up on crutches.

Snukes, I got my taco bell voucher signed by Bausko himself.  I plan on putting it on ebay for a buy it now price of fourteen thousand dollars.  Just wanted to keep you updated so you can have a chance to be lucky enough to win it and add it to your collection.

Injury report: While Matthew Goldsmith is walking without a limp his ego will be bruised on a different court tonight...yadadadadadadadadadadadadadawiionetimeimean.  And for the love of God can anyone actually confirm that Daniel O'Shea's fingers DO NOT HURT?!?!?!!?!?!?

Pat- Its great that you endorse the East/West theory. As a Hamilton grad I'd like to see Hamiltlon as a full-time NESCAC school, which would "round out" this theory.

There needs to be a compromise b/w pride in the academic integrity of our league(Presidents, sensitivity to travel, etc.) and competing at a national level(at large-bids, continued presence in NCAA post season).

The presidents are not all the bow-tie wearing academics Formerbant paints them to be. Formerbant- Trinity had no support from the AD/President/Board in its run of three straight undefeated football seasons? The President doesn't endorse Trinity's International Squash roster...these students all earn "need-based" aid right? As a former NESCAC basketball player, and Trinity isn't filled with rocket scientists, why the stance against the home and home schedule?

Conn is struggling with their backcourt...Jeff Young is playing b/c they need him...it would have been nice to keep him out and give him two full years of eligibility...The Wesleyan loss was a brutal blow.

The Little Three has got to go. Done. Throw it away. The point has been made, they play each other anyway (so do the Maine schools) let everyone play each other twice...not to mention the game preparation! The Little Three gets to "practice" against one another! Its ridiculous!

Another congratulations to Zak Ray, who set Bates' career assists mark tonight with 8 assists against Emmanuel. Zak has 501 for his career.

Bates rolled over Emmanuel, probably to no surprise. I heard it was a pretty rough game, apparently Jimmy O'Keefe even got a tech, and Stockwell got hit in a sensitive area (and apparently was immediately removed so as not to react :) ), but all in all a successful 18 point win. Other notable stats: "shooters" Halloran and Wholey went 5-17, Wilson scored 11 off the bench and Jimmy O'Keefe had four offensive rebounds. Kid's an animal.

Congrats again to Zak, one of the most unique talents I've seen.

CC, read my posts a little more closely.

I never said that the athletic teams at Trinity did have the full support of the President.  I'm not associated with the football program and have no clue what support they received from the higher-ups...but I'm sure that winning didn't hurt.

International students can't receive federal aid..but I don't work in admissions nor financial aid and will not attempt to answer anything about the squash team.  Once again, winning doesn't hurt....and that's all they've done for the past 7 years.

I've stated on more than one occasion that most of the players (myself included) would love to have the opportunity to play everybody twice.

What I did say is that the change is more than unlikely.  Tradition is very important to these hallowed schools, hence the 8 football games with no playoffs.  Also, the way things are now work very well for the conference....why change it.

But as a Hamilton grad, would you like to see them go 0-for the league this year in the NESCAC...maybe squeaking out wins against Wes and CC.

89-74 final from Medford, Jumbos cruise by Wheaton.  Much more of a blowout than the final score indicates, Sheldon emptied his bench in the second half and the Lyons caught up.

Jake scored 17 in the first 16-17ish minutes, and was 22 away from the big 1-0-0-0.  Only four more the rest of the way though... oh well.

Shep had to leave in the first half with a bloody nose, and then came back, huge wad of tissue in the nostril and all, to go 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and finish with 13 points.  What a fighter.

11 different guys took threes for the Jumbos; meanwhile the Lyons were 2 for 11 on threes.  That made the difference... for a while, Wheaton just couldn't hit a shot in the first half.

Anyway good win.  Refreshing comeback from the humiliating Bates game.

Watched the Jumbos on the Jumbocast . Great first half with the Jumbos
back on track .

Weitzen was amazing with 17 points in the first half , the commentators thinking
that he might get 1000 tonight . No chance of that, too much of a route .

Jake did finish with "only" 21 .  he shot 9-10   from the field including 3-3 from 3 .

The announcers said he would be the first junior in Tufts history to get 1000.
I dont think that can be true . does anyone kow the answer to that one .

GREAT GAME
