I was just wondering... how many basketball teams, men or women, in any division, are still undefeated at this point in the season?

I can only think of three.

Amherst men (D3)
UNC women (D1)
Duke women (D1)

Is that really it?

It may not have been specifically you, Historian, but at this juncture I tend to lump the more outlandish Amherst posters together, and I lack the desire of backtracking to find out who made this claim.

Well, booyakasha, first of all, I love that you chose a moniker that was made famous by someone who made a career out of embarrassing people in "outlandish" and "childish" ways and then decide to take the high road.

Second of all, it was not I who called any ex-player those names.  I try very hard to keep my caustic and denigrating comments reserved for those who open themselves up to such derision with ignorant, mean, or poorly typed posts.  "Lacking the desire" to check your facts before blasting someone for things they never did is not an excuse.

I'm sure my posts provide more than enough fodder for you and everyone else who takes this board so seriously to get upset about; you don't have to resort to putting words into my mouth like nescac hoops.  That just belittles you.

Finally, please, please, PLEASE, go back to being an Amherst fan.  Like you said, it's just not fair to the men on the team.  I'm sure they were counting on your "loose and afar" fan support to carry them through their championship run.

The Historian

Winona St., Bentley, and Central Missouri in Division II men's are still undefeated.

Missouri Western and Florida Gulf Coast in Division II women's are also still undefeated.

Has been would insinuate that I'm no longer playing.  But to each their own Heronimo

Has-been wasn't directed toward you.  It was directed toward the mammoth from Planet Lovetron himself, Darryl Dawkins.

You played basketball?

Gotta go.  Having contractions.

No radio coverage tonight, but we'll have tomorrow's Amherst-Wesleyan game live on WAMH at 2:00.  http://wamh.amherst.edu/

I'm awake.
The social outcast comment was from a UAA poster who goes to WashU. However, they do look like an inseperable choir whenever I see them.
We couldnt have the 02/03, 03/04, or 04/05 Amherst and Williams team play against each other without the time machine from Napoleon Dynamite. Nescac Hoops can use the machine and go back and set the game up. Let us know the results, seedings and standings after the trip.
That Bowdoin release was done very professionally.

great idea, walzy. a time machine. maybe you can come with me and go back to the '02-'03 season. we can watch williams win the nescac championship in lefrak. get some wings at the hangar. then a couple weeks later we could go up to williamstown and watch williams destroy amherst to go to the final 4. then we can take an even longer trip down to salem and watch williams win the national championship. i realize that this is a rather "selfish" year for me to pick but there is something for you too... i think you were around 18 yrs. old that season, thus making 18 year old moho girls fair game.

The Franchise

midd bounces back with a big win against tufts... thompson led the way with 35

mrmike88

Amherst 91, Conn College 49.

nescac hoops

williams 67
bates 54

with the tufts loss today, i think that the ephs are in contention for third place if they can beat the jumbos tomorrow. hard to believe.

Wow...

That's all I can really say... Wow.

Okay maybe not. Amherst goes on a 19-0 run over the last 5 minutes to put this game to bed. Bausky and KHop go a combined 15-18 to lead the way. 9 different Jeffs had at least 2 assists, including the entire starting five. They just share the ball so well. It's like an outstanding kindergarten class...

Looks like Stone showed up and played Amherst 1 on 5. Decent line for him (18 pts. 5 reb. 4 asst.) minus the five turnovers.

Amherst and Trinty win by a combined 80 points tonight. Will either the Camels or the Methodists come back to play tomorrow? Or will they hide under the couch like a dog that's been kicked?

As for Tufts and Bates, poor efforts on the road. Signs of life from Williamstown...

nescac hoops

actually, i just schecked the standings....williams could very conceivably be the second seed if they are able to win tomorrow and all else goes to plan....amherst beating trinity and williams taking down wesleyan and conn. i don't think anything can be taken for granted this year though.

La Verdad

A few impressions from the Amherst Conn College game...

Stone probably had 16 pts or so with most of them in the first half.  After his quick start he was pretty quiet.  He didn't even bother posting up on Hopkins after the first few minutes and he missed a few contested hooks while Jones was guarding him.  He did show some good range on his jumper when Hopkins was in, but you never want to see your dominant post player settling for jumpers on a consistent basis.  In my opinion, Hopkins and Jones both bring more to the table than Stone does.  That being said

Amherst had way too much height for the Camels to deal with.  #11, who can't be taller than 5-9, was trying to guard Baskauskas in the post.  Looked like the Camels had to go to their bench early, sacrificing skill for size.

I still haven't seen a team that has an answer for Hopkins.  He had three dunks tonight in addition to some solid post moves, a jumper from around the foul line, not to mention pretty much locking down Stone while he was guarding him.  The whole dynamic of the game changes when he's in.

I've never seen so many failed alley-oop attempts in a d3 game.  Walters missed out on two (the first one was more of an airmail by Olson, the only guy ive seen who could've pulled that one down was the RIC kid who stuffed tmac earlier in the week).  #42 on Conn went up for an alley, got stuffed by the rim, and landed on his back, all to the delight of the Amherst fans...pretty much sums up the Camels night.

Not to sound like a pretentious Amherst fan, but other than Young and Stone the Camels really don't have much.  Maybe this was just a poor performance, I mean, these guys beat Bates the other day right?

Rumor has it Midd put up 103 on tufts...Amherst v. tufts in the first round perhaps?  No me gusta.

As for the rumors that I impregnated geronimo they are pure speculation and I will not pay a penny in child support until I see the results of a paternity test.

I was the one who made fun of the Crotty Abba game. I'm not an especially big Amherst fan, just grew up around the school and am very familiar with its program. I'm also quite familiar with Williams and very much enjoyed watching the great Eph teams of those years. Indeed, I've consistently said on this board and elsewhere that Paulsen is a better game coach than Hixon (recruiting, of course, is a whole different story). That said, Crotty and Abba and certain other Williams players back then always struck me (and I suspect any other rational viewer of nescac basketball) as being especially socially and aesthetically inept, some of the most generally bizarre people I've ever seen on a basketball court. Note that I didn't say that about Folan or Coles, two dudes who struck me as fairly sane. And honestly, how cool could the crotty crowd be if they were hanging out with tennis players? Enough with my ad hominem bull ****. Lighten up. It's a message board, guy. And you working at Goldman is SOOOOOO awesome. This is the perfect place to discuss it.

Bates continues to disappoint this year--by the box score it looks like Zak and Rob showed up but no one else. Next year is positively scary--Wholey will put up numbers, and Wilson and O'Keefe will pick up some slack, but this team seems guaranteed to be one of the bottom-half teams next year. Zak and Rob are among the best players in the history of the school, and in what we've been discussing as a weak NESCAC, are currently leading a 2-4 team. I really can't believe it--I thought this team was tourney bound. I imagine it is not a happy locker room right now.

Anyone see the game at Williams--would love to hear a recap of some sort. Saw Bates shot 1-22 from beyond the arc. I think Reilly forgets that his wing players aren't as good as he was, and aren't as good as Gerrity and Furbush were. Why so many threes?
