Amherst 81, Wesleyan 56

It's Dan Wheeler's world and we just live in it.  Wheeler scored 28 points on senior day today against the Cardinals to get to 1,000 for his career.  O'Shea had a quiet 11, McLaughlin came up with several big steals and even Mike Salerno, the fourth senior on the squad, played well in his first start of the season.  Wesleyan held it close until about 5 minutes into the second half, when Wheeler caught fire and Amherst quickly built up a 20-point lead.

23-0, with one more game to go in the regular season.  Amherst clinches the NESCAC regular-season title today.  They go for win #24 against Trinity next Saturday in what should be a great game in Hartford.

On a somewhat-related note, WPI lost today to Babson, their second loss of the season.  Amherst is even more comfortably in the driver's seat in the Northeast now.

Bobcats limping back to Lewiston with an 81-48 win over Middlebury.  Looking at the Colby/Bowdoin weekend at Alumni.  Start heating up the gym now Joe.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the Jumbos sweep their home weekend finale they'll be the #2 seed and Trinity the #3.

Amherst, shockingly, is the #1 seed.

Clinchy, that looks more like a roster than a race.  This year's conference awards are still up in the air, looking ahead 12 months is impossible.

Post Script to the Bobcats: On your way to the Colby/Bowdoin weekend, don't look past Gordon.

I know it's a lot of people.  My point is, it's absurd to anoint Hopkins as the POY when he's probably not among the top 10 juniors right now.

On another note, who's got the Trin/Conn score?

TUrighty14

assuming amherst beats trinity next weekend, tufts controls its destiny for the number 2 seed. if tufts, trinity, and williams all finished with 3 losses, TU takes the tiebreakers. I think there is a significant difference this year between the 2 and 3 seed. I wouldnt want to face Middlebury or Bates, two teams who could be 6 seed, in the first round.

Not taking anything away from Colby or Bowdoin, but I just dont see them winning a playoff game on the road.

On the other hand, I'm sure the Jumbos would gladly invite either Bates or Midd to Medford to exact some revenge.

Clinchy,
Don't sleep on Hopkins, I think one could argue that he's better than almost all of the guys you mentioned.

old_hooper

Agreed!  Hopkins has become a key factor for them and the right time.  Don't forget about a healthy Goldsmith next year also!  Wheeler's little bro will be a special player for Amherst.  You can see by the way he moves and shoots.

Just got back from Williams -Tufts game . great comeback for the jumbos in a must win game . They fell behind ,but thanks to a Jon Pierce 3 at halftime buzzer They trailed by 5 at half .
They totally shut down Rose & Shalvoy in the second half .
In response to their loss to Middlebury Friday night, Middlebury played the game of their lives . Thompson had a great game , but in no way should he be considered for any Nescac teams , i agree with another comment too inconsistent , The reason Weitzen played 9 minutes ElClinchy was that he had a seemingly major knee injury & thought lost for the season. This could have helped the Middlebury cause against Tufts . Miraculously Weitzen played today against Williams & was his usual self scoring 15 . Amazing !! Also props to Brian Kumf really playing great lately
Middlebury lost a great opportunity today by losing to Bates but it opens things up for the JUMBOS . I cant wait for another shot all the almighty lord jeffs !!

Congrats to Dan Wheeler for recording his 1000th point tonight. Good time of the year to start getting hot.

Trinity won 62-47.

RTIII with another great game off the bench going for 21 and 6.

34 bench points for the Bants.
