I love the Amherst broken record

when it's not, "if they were on amherst, they wouldn't even start."  it's "his numbers aren't as good because he plays on a better team."

Anyone who's actually PLAYED competetive basketball knows what having other good players on your team does for your scoring oppurtunities: it increases them.  Let's not even mention Olson's assist numbers.  At least 3 of the 7 he averages a game are simply a matter of swinging the ball to the next open man on the perimeter.

To really look at my point you need to look at a guy like wheeler.  Why do you think he's actually scored a little less this year than last and dropped in 3pt %?  It's pretty simple, Bedford and Casnocha freed him up.  They didn't have to run plays for Wheeler, he was just the next weapon on the perimeter and he did his job to perfection.  But most of those points came from decisions by defenses to trap and consentrate in different areas.  Not to mention Olson's 3pt% is down 10%, for that stat that's a huge drop.  Granted, his percentage was astronomical last year, but do you think he got worse as a shooter?  No, his quality of looks has dropped because of the aforementioned 3 point studs.

And again, Amhest is the 1996 Chicago Bulls playing in a league of high schoolers.  If i had never seen them play and just read this board, I would assume that their starting five was the 5 best players in the NESCAC.  the reason Amherst is the best team is because they're the deepest by far, they have good passing, and every starter is 2 or 3 points better than his opponent.  That's enough to account for 20 point wins.  Even so, they do have mere 4 and 6 point wins against teams with a combined 7-7 conference record.

This is not to take anything away from their success over the past few years, but ****, try to be a little objective and take it for what it is.  Their consistency is WAY more impressive than the "utter dominance" feigned by this board.

ballaholic4

that last paragraph should say "Amherst isn't the 1996 Chicago Bulls"

Ballaholic  4 great post . I was so confused regarding Hopkins ALREADY
being considered  POY for NEXT YEAR !!! I saw Amherst beat Tufts in OT this year &
I  now realize why I did`nt remember Hopkins . He played 4 minutes
no rebounds & 1-2 from the foul line . Was he not feeling well ?

I think Amherst was so much better last year with Bedford . This year other then
Olson who is very good , & I love Brian B. , the rest of the team are good role players .
They are deep & big , but no one is real scary . I take Stockwell , Kelly over any of their
big men.

I can't believe I'm agreeing with him, but I also feel like this year's Amherst team isn't as strong as last year's squad.  However, it's not about how good last year's team was, it's about how good the competition is this year and I think it's safe to say the top tier nationwide isn't as good as it was last season.  Amherst has just as great a shot as anyone else.

I think we need to face the fact that this year it is "Amherst and the 9 dwarves" in the NESCAC. I have seen all teams except CC, most several times, and the talent level overall has never been lower in my memory. As for how good Amherst is, I still think that is up for grabs. One thing I like about them is that they can win ugly. I have seen them play 4 times, and they have yet to play more than 15 good minutes in any game, yet they won 3 of the 4 going away, and pulled the Tufts game out in OT. To win the national championship, they will need to put together 35-40 good minutes against the quality opponents they will face outside of the East and NE regions. Inside the NE, they can play 15-20 good minutes and get away with it.

acoholic5, what officially constitutes actually having PLAYED competitive basketball?  This board isn't for people who've PLAYED competitive basketball.  Guys who were true players shouldn't have to stroke themselves by making statements like "Anyone who's actually PLAYED competitive basketball," implying that you did and we didn't, which makes you far superior.  Making statements like this makes you appear as if you were a half step beyond the guy who carries the balls off the bus, for a DIII squad.

"Larry Bird is not walking through that door.  Kevin McHale is not walking through that door. Robert Parish is not walking through that door.  And if you expect them to walk through the door, they're going to be gray and old."

But it's okay.  ballaholic4 is walking through that door, and he actually played the game!

OUR SAVIOR!

By the way, I played a season of JV at Mercy High School for Girls, which puts is in the same category.  REAL BALLERS YO!  The rest of you, STEP OFF!  ballaholic 4-eva yo!  What!  What!

great idea, walzy. a time machine. maybe you can come with me and go back to the '02-'03 season. we can watch williams win the nescac championship in lefrak. get some wings at the hangar. then a couple weeks later we could go up to williamstown and watch williams destroy amherst to go to the final 4. then we can take an even longer trip down to salem and watch williams win the national championship. i realize that this is a rather "selfish" year for me to pick but there is something for you too... i think you were around 18 yrs. old that season, thus making 18 year old moho girls fair game.

Good post nescac hoops.  Then you can use the time machine to go forward about five years and have your first kiss with a girl (not a moho girl though...they don't dig dudes with acne, glasses, wedgie jeans and red suspenders).  And while you're there, buy up all the Harry Potter sequels so you can wow your homeboys at the '08 Star Trek convention.

does anyone know if pierce from tufts is eligible for nescac ROY since he transferred in and didnt play at drew last year, making this his first year of college ball? if he is, is he the front runner? I dont know of anyone else making contributions like his in their first year but i could be wrong. im curious to hear from you other posters if there are freshman or other transplants putting up numbers on top five teams in the conference.

playing doesn't make me superior, there are plenty of guys who post on this board who played and you can tell that from the overall quality of their comments.

another thing you can tell, i.e. your last "retort", is that when someone just attacks other people rather than their ideas or comments, they really don't have anything to say.  It just winds up sounding like a series of broken dreams culminating in a rant of insults fired at posters about whom you haven't the slightest idea.  To be blunt, your basketball IQ takes even more of a hit.

It's sort of like someone saying, "well Amherst is better than Williams" and the comeback is "the Lord Jeffs suck".  You've given up, you're admitting they're right, and you're just trying to get the last word.

all i'm saying is that there are certain nuances that someone who played the game usually understands that people who just watch (especially those who are simply overzealous fans of one team) don't.

Oh yeah, and if you're going to insult my game, you pick the court and the time.  Just bring your sneaks, some ankle tape and about 7 fresh towels.

Larry Bird...er...Kevin McHale...er...Robert Parish...er...ballaholic4, you're even more JV than I thought.  And no one insulted your game, only the laughable, JVish fact that you feel the need to post about your on-court prowess as a means of one-upping lesser mortals.

And as soon as I have this baby, I'll give you a shot at the title, on my old stomping ground no less -- the freshly linoleum-tiled floor of the Mercy High School for Girls varsity court.  We'll move the rolling lunch tables out of the way and GET IT ON!  And don't worry, I'll bring EIGHT fresh towels.  You can bring the ankle tape, Air-Jordan!

By the way, the only way one feels my wrath is by condescending.  If you stick to legitimate basketball posts that don't pronounce your greatness on the court, then you'll be okay.  If my aunt had two units, my uncles would both be ugly women.

Dr E. Spengler

Ballaholic...again...please...stop.

Your boy couldn't start on Amherst.  It has nothing to do with the superiority complex I may or may not have.  It's just the way it is.  Playing basketball makes you smarter about anything...  Practice? We're talking about practice? not a game...not a game...practice?

Judges?

German Judge: Good Point
French Judge: Good Point
Russian Judge: Mediocre Point

Don't beat yourself up over the Russian Judge though, she's tough.

And of course Olson has more chances to score because he's on a better team, but if you have ever seen him play, you know he'd rather make your entire team look silly, reward another player on his team, win twenty three straight than gun from all over the place.  Can you blame him?

Agent_Zero...give up the name at once.  Never has anyone named themselves after such a legend and made such a non-legendary first post.

The loss of John Bedford (should have been POY...best player/best team) is obviously a big one for the Jeffs this year, but TMAC is a great all around player and the added time for Bausko and the juniors this year has actually made this team better.

I love that everyone is sleeping on Hopkins.  When he comes to your gym and the ceiling falls down, because he just banged with two hands all over your big man don't come running to me.

Hoopjunkie, my favorite college team is coached by Gary Williams, not Dave Hixon...to quote the man who killed the Jumbos in the NESCACS..."FIND A FRIEND!"

And back to ballaholic, attacking a woman..."Hey, you! Get your damn hands off her!"

Agent_Zero

my deepest apologies dr. i wasnt trying to be legendary or make a legendary post. i just wanted to know your obviously esteemed opinion on that certain subject. since agent zero is one of my favorite players, im simply paying him the homage he is most obviously due.
