I assume he was talking about Russ Martin.

Good point....but Russ is definitey coming back...is a junior and his 3rd year of continuous playing.  Hasiuk, Taylor and P. Martin have missed years playing, hence me grouping them together.

There are 2 Private School leagues in NYC, Friends plays in the less competitive one.  Not the same as Poly Prep.

I did meant Pat Martin, I wasn't sure of his eligibility considering his transfer, etc.

Thanks for the info on Whittington, ephhoops.  Sounds like the Ephs are looking to load up on athletic 4's, which makes sense considering all they brought in last year in terms of shooters from the wing and at the five, and with Weisbrot and Rose graduating in a year.

Good luck to the Ephs on Saturday!

I didnt realize that Hasiuk had missed a year. When was he gone?

He sat out last year with an injury.  Still attended classes, but couldn't play.

Congrats to Dan Wheeler of Amherst for being named one of ten finalists for the Jostens Award!

Farrell for Player of the Year . He and Cohen do not have the depth to go with them, like other teams do, but they are in the final four.

I thought the final four was in Salem, VA and was played in mid-March. ? ? ?
How is Colby already in?

I think you should ask the last five teams Colby has beaten about their depth. They have won with a starter (Gaudet) injured and then out with a fracture.

--What do you mean, Dman?  Lots of NESCAC kids from that school?

--More info on Troy Whittington (although makes no mention of Williams) can be found here:

Definitely sounds like an intriguing prospect who would bring a different skill set from the guys currently on the roster.

--Also, nice article on future Amherst player Kurt Bennett.

Too bad Williams missed out on him, but at least Geoghegan will be around at that position for three more years.  Sounds like Bennett will be ready to step right in to the interior void created by the class of 08's graduation (to answer a question raised a view posts back).   Between Casnocha, Baskauskas, Olson and now this kid, Amherst has quite the recruiting pull in California.

Let's all pull for Williams and Colby to pull off the upsets this weekend ... I mean, Trinity and Amherst are already locks, and NESCAC could use a third team in the tourney, right?

lemonjello

Walzy, I think he meant the final four of the NESCAC tourney.  Interesting article about Bennett, looks like he and Butler will be nice players for Amherst.  Bennett will replace the size lost from that strong junior class.  Does anyone know anything else about other NESCAC (especially Amherst) recruits?  And about Poly Prep as the farm team, it may just be referring to Amherst, because dean of admissions Tom Parker is an alum of Poly, and typically Amherst recruits many athletes from Poly.

mrmike88

Sounds like they got lucky on Bennett - the article says he initially had a visit to Williams but no Amherst visit planned.

"numbers strong enough to earn a scholarship to attend and play for Amherst College, a Division III school in Massachusets, next year."
I thought the NESCAC didn't give any athletic or academic scholarships??? How does that work?

nescac1

No D-III schools give athletic scholarships, and NESCAC schools don't give merit awards for academics (at least Williams and Amherst don't, and I don't think any others do).  I've seen this mistake made many, many times in other articles about NESCAC recruits.  His numbers were strong enough to earn ADMISSION to Amherst, and if he got a scholarship it must have been need-based.  Sports writers are just so used to writing about D-I that often they don't understand how D-III works.

eclinchy

Yeah, Tufts doesn't give scholarships either.  If you get money, it's called financial aid.  Simple as that.
