Congratulations to the Lord Jeffs on the win tonight.  Your team took the best second-half comeback punch that Wooster had to give, and withstood it to hang on for a well-deserved win.  Here's one Wooster fan who'll be here rooting for your team to bring home the title tomorrow.  Either way, though, congratulations to Amherst on a great win and a great season!  :)

Congratulations to Amherst on a nice win tonight!   When Wooster took the lead in the 2nd half, many other teams would have folded the tent.  The Lord Jeffs showed tremendous resolve and rallied to get the well deserved victory.

Wooster did win the fan turnout battle as we have well over 500 fans in Salem by my rough estimate.  Perhaps, a few posters on this board will also now admit that Tim Vandervaart can play effectively with a cast on his left hand!  Amherst was unable to take away his right hand and he scored 20 points tonight.

Good luck to the Lord Jeffs in the Championship game tomorrow!  I'm another Wooster fan that would like to see them get the win vs. Virginia Wesleyan. :)

Clearly aimed at me.  9-10 would've been a great game with 2 good hands.  Doing that with 1 is amazing.

I've been trying to share this with sports fans in L.A. tonight, but aside from Mrs. Amherst95 and myself it's a pretty small community.

WOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO!

GO JEFFS!

Ah the NESCAC Board, always good for a few drunk postings after big wins.  Keep'em coming boys.

Congrats on the big win.  This is their year to break through and I think they've got what it takes to top VAWes.  Just do me a favor and avoid going Gerald Henderson on Balenga, the nose is already broken, a Jared Dudley love tap will do.

I think you could really see the experience factor pay off for Amherst down the stretch last night.  They didn't finish last year against Witt, but this year they were able to keep their composure when Wooster had all the momentum and the crowd support and still held on to win.  Nicely done Amherst.  I'm guessing that the Jeffs picked up about 500 or so supporters for the championship game tonight over VaWes.  I'd certainly be cheering on the Jeffs if I were there to do it.

At the post-game press conference last night, Dan Wheeler was on fire.  I'm not doing him any justice with my horrible memory, but he (jokingly) attributed last night's victory to the fact that this year's team avoided the "deadly breakfast biscuit."  He declared his love for southern cooking, saying that the guys are all addicted to breakfast biscuits.  Then he told the CSTV guys that the reason Amherst was able to rebound after the Wooster run (unlike in previous trips to Salem) was because the team swore off all breakfast biscuits this year and were thus still fresh to go late in the second...

Hands down, McLaughlin was my star of the game.  He was solid on both ends of the floor, making big-time shots but also harassing Cooper on D.  But an unsung hero last night was Dan Wheeler, who struggled on the offensive end but really started to bother Port on the other side of the court.  His defensive performance this year is one of the reasons the Jeffs are playing the late game today.

I hope O'Shea's play last night will quiet some of the naysayers.  It was a brilliant move on Hixon's part to get O'Shea into the game late in the second.  He nabbed a few key rebounds and did just enough to slow down Vandervaart.  I for one was surprised that the Scots didn't get the ball into the low post down the stretch.  I know you have go-to-guys in Port and Cooper, but Vandervaart was 9-10 from the field and there was no way any Jeff was going to stop him.

Should be a great one today.  How will Amherst deal with VaWes' team speed?  How will VaWes deal with the height disadvantage?

Well I wanted to come on here and say that I am cheering for the Jeffs, for the most part you guys are class acts and I would love for fisher to get another shot at you guys... Good Luck tonight and bring the NC back to the Northeast

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

Who's got a banner now? Oh yeah that's right, Amherst does. Congrats to the guys, just an amazing two days of basketball.

We made our cries for Salem back in October and November, and the Jeffs not only made it a reality, but a dream come true.

I'm so proud of the Amherst faithful who made the trip to Salem this year. Wish I could've been there with you.

Can anyone else tell me another coach who can win a national title in a shirt, tie and warm-up pants? Didn't think so... Great job Coach Hixon!!!

bearsonocow

The offense worked and they looked like the winner all game long.  Another Championship for the North East and NESCAC.  Good for the league.

nescac1

Congrats to Amherst ... Williams can't lord the banner over you guys anymore, alas.   A pretty dominating playoff run with Wooster the only real test.   Now it's time for the race for number two ... Ephs (and everyone else in NESCAC) have a lot of catching up to do b/c the Jeffs have a ton of talent returning.  If Olson's not a first team all american, I'm not sure who should be.  Although it was really the Jeffs' balance that carried the day.

2003-2007 NESCAC now has two titles and five final four appearances ... anyone doubting the conference strength now?

Amherst95

And that's nine final four appearances in the fourteen seasons since our conference decided to allow our teams to compete for national championships, not to mention two titles in five seasons.

But more to the point : WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Congrats to the players and Coach Hixon (550 wins and counting).  What a season.  This is the first and probably the last time Amherst fans will have gladly traded a loss to Williams for anything.
