If Amherst brings in the 6'9 kid in addition to Bennett (who supposedly is the most talented big guy Amherst has ever recruited), that will be pretty scary for the rest of the league.  Keep us posted.

Any more news on Williams recruits besides Whittington?

Here is a mention of another player headed to Bates:
http://www.boston.com/sports/schools/extras/schools_blog/2007/03/bc_high_4740_fi_2.html

Brian Ellis, 6'4 forward.  If he's any good he'll get a chance to play immediately, as Bates has very little returning up front and badly needs an inside scoring threat.  Next year will be a rebuilding year for them but the coach seems to bring in some of the top players in New England year in and year out, and they might surprise.

NY Hoopster, you are a Colby fan, right?  Any thoughts on who will step up to try to fill the enormous shoes of Cohen and Farrell?

NY hoopster

Nescac 1; Colby has three returning starters, guards Mark Gaudet, and Mac
Simpson, and Adam Choice at forward. Sophmore Nick Planeta played center when Cohen did not and played a solid game. Artie Cutrone was the first guard off the bench last year. I have no info on incoming frosh, but am interested in what other people think the starting lineup may be, or what recruits are coming in.

I love the energy on this board during the runup to the championship, and in its celebration. Is anyone else pissed off that The New York Times devoted more space to the coverage of a cricket match than to the D3 championship in the Sunday sports section?

Pissed off but hardly surprised. This is why we're here, really. It was the same thing when I was an SID for a D-III school in a Top 10 media market.

Amherst95

In the early 90's we wondered how the best teams in the conference (then Amherst, Williams, and Colby) could do in the tourney.  My junior year was the first time we were allowed in, and our team made the Elite Eight by winning at Franklin and Marshall.  We lost the next game to Lebanon Valley, which went on to win the championship (with a controversial finish as I recall).  The tournament wins for Amherst that year were the first step towards the kind of repect that the mid-western power conferences have enjoyed.  With the conference's track record over the last fourteen years, and especially over the last five, that respect continues to grow.  But frankly unless the other local conferences develop perennial contenders, NESCAC will always be the big brother in a small family.

I have only followed this site for the last few years but I don't see any anti-Amherst (or NESCAC) bias in it.  What does exist is healthy respect for the power conferences that have sent teams to the final four year after year, including for many years before the NESCAC would even allow its teams to enter the tournament.  Fairly or not, we weren't going to get the same respect until we did what we just did -- knock off a traditional power and then the defending champs to claim the title.  Which was pretty damn sweet, wasn't it?

Hey the wrap up said that four NESCAC teams had made the final four. Amherst, Williams, Conn College and....Colby?? Or was it Trinity??

There's a lot of talk on the ODAC board right now (admittedly started by me :D ) about how classy the Amherst players were in the midst of their win in comparison to the Va Wes players.

I just wanted to say how well it reflected on the program that your players stopped celebrating immediately, and took the trouble to go all the way to the Va Wes bench and congratulate their players despite the fact they didn't even shake most of your players hands. Way to win respectfully and with class. After all the sad things I've seen and heard this year sportsmanshipwise, the fact that the champs acted that way make me thrilled to be a fan of DIII. Thanks much! :)

Trinity in 1995.

Wasn't me. I am not allowed to shout out, but if I had been cheering for any Williams kids to go in it would have been #50 from Fullerton.

The guy yelling for Golia during the Williams games isn't a poster.  He went to high school with the guy, I think...

wanted to also comment on the quality of the two broadcasts on d3cast.  i thought both games were really well done in terms of camera and commentary.  i especially enjoyed the view of the williams banner, which by my count was around 5 times.  whether or not that was motivation for amh, may be debatable, but at least now we can say, we did it first.  also, must concur with diehard fan.  the camera guy again really caught the moment where vawes just sat on the bench as amh players went out of their way to offer a post game handshake.  very disappointing, and i can't say i fully blame the coach.  blame it on youth or whatever, but stuff like that really shouldn't happen....

Congrats to Amherst..... Bndrew Olson is the truth.... I sat in the stands and I thought that he is the best D3 point guard I've seen all season.... to me he looks as if he could have easily been a Division I player.... also, Amherst foward Brandon Jones looked like a really good player... will he start next year?? If he does and gets the ball he looks like he could do damage.... Congrats to Amherst on winning it all you guys deserved it.

WHATTUP WHATTUP WHATTUP...PARTY PEOPLE...IN THE PLACE TO BE....

Hello, to all mutants and non-mutants alike.  Sitting at my computer with literally nothing to do.  (I feel like when Hixon spoke about how he respects those with disabilities after his recent injury.  Now I can identify with someone who is able to post on d3hoops.com from work.)

I have come to you all to speak to two central points.  First, and foremost I would like everyone to remember the first post by yours truly.  Although made by my more friendly alter-ego it was on the subject of a one Mike Salerno.  I made the argument that if the jeffs were going to be able to win it all in Salem it was going to be on the hard work and heart of young sal.  Funny, how it all comes full circle and the prophecy of VIGO has come true.  I can't wait until the near future when I get to point out that you all laughed at me for boasting of the talents of Marcus "Ya Boy" Bradley.  I won't even post after Kevin Hopkins wins NESCAC player of the year...that will almost be as easy as making fun of the fact that it has recently been pointed out to me that Pat Coleman always wears the same button down shirt.    (woops, too late)

I will give you right now the key ingredients to the jeffs championship this weekend weekend so everyone around the country can attempt to replicate it:

you take one part babs wheeler leg kick, two parts timbodawg, 2 tablespoons of shea's forearm, a pinch of football mike (5 seconds call anyone?) a splash of the global hyphy movement, mix it together with the junior class that will lead next years team back to a championship in salem...and VOILA!

I've been wasting time looking at the Amherst and Williams basketball pages online, and its pretty clear that the Amherst site is much better organized and professionally put together. I would think this would be an important factor in recruiting. The Williams athletics site makes the school look bush-league. Does any anyone know if Paulsen is upset about this? Are there plans to re-do the site? As an Amherst fan, I hope not.

Also, while I'm on an anti-Williams rant, its worth noting that the Jeffs trailed for less than 5 minutes in the entire Final Four. If I rememeber correctly, when the Ephs won, they led for no more than 5 minutes the entire weekend.

Andrew Olson was named NABC Co-Player of the Year, along with Guildford's Ben Strong.  Congrats to AO, but I wonder what else he has to accomplish.  David Hixon, not surprisingly, was named Coach of the Year, as he was on this website as well.  I can't imagine Hix leaving Amherst, although, like Olson, he has accomplished almost everything possible.
