Nice article written by Amherst's Dan O'Shea:

Oh, and Nescac Hoops, don't forget Midd as a contender next year -- return four starters from a pretty young squad, and they have been bringing in a lot of talent the last few years.  I'd say they that, on paper (and without knowing much about incoming players or defections), they are right there with Tufts and Trinity, half a notch behind Williams, with of course Amherst the favorite.

I heard Alex Gallant, a 6'5 PF from Maine, is headed to Bates.  Sounds like Bates is reloading nicely with a badly-needed group of big men recruits.

OK, I'll admit that the sentence should have said implied, although I meant inferred and just constructed the rest of the sentence incorrectly.

If the Jeffs starting line-up next year is:
Olson
Hopkins
Baskauskas
Coulibaly
Goldsmith

and I understand that it may be quite different from that, with Walters especially having a very good case to start, but where do you think the Jeff's second five of

Jones
Walters
S. Wheeler
Carceiri/Bradley
Wong

would finish in the NESCAC? I could see as high as third.

Are you seriously accusing hasanova of conflating something?  I've never known him to conflate anything.  (At least not since he stopped combining beans and peppers.)
sludge, I actually owe my success in conflating typos and spelling errors to the valuable early experience I gained conflating beans and peppers.  Who knew?  I stopped consuming the latter and stopped proofreading the former for the same reason (they give me gas).  There are just too many problems to mention.  Well, maybe one ...  "mens"?

Back to basketball - did you know Amherst's LeFrak Gymnasium and Guilford's Ragan-Brown Field House have the same architecture?  Maybe it's an omen for the 2008 Final Four!

Amazing, hasanova.  I didn't think anyplace looked like Guilford's Ragan-Brown.  I really like it!

Nice to be on the NESCAC board; very civilized compared to the ODAC!  ;D  ;)

Civilized?  For real?  Either you didn't read the recent exchange between two Amherst students who nearly came to blows, or I need to spend more time checking out the ODAC board.

Mere metaphore, I trust.  How can you come to blows on a message board?!  ???

If they're like this when they agree about the team, imagine how it would be if one of them was a VWC fan!  ;D

Actually, sludge, I've known since its opening in 1980 that Guilford's Ragan-Brown Field House was patterned after Amherst's LeFrak.  Someone on this board jokingly used the word "stole," but I prefer to think imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.  In fact, Guilford has always given credit to Amherst when describing the roof structure.  In addition to the pool picture, there's an action photo of Ben Strong in the lower RH corner of the first page of Guilford's website where you can see the gym roof pretty clearly.  Of course, you and I have been in Ragan-Brown Field House many times and know Ben well, but some others might like to see it.

No big deal - just a little "men behaving badly."   :)

Rookie v. Vigo -- The Final Conflict
Was that a Ghostbusters movie or was Vigo the Carpathian only in number II?  I have Bill Murray's autograph if that can help Rookie.  Think of it sort of like a crucifix or a silver bullet.  Vigo lives on a "mountain of skulls in a castle of pain and sits on a throne of blood," so I figure Rookie may need a little something extra to bring to "the conflict."  I'll pay $8 to see this as long as I can bring my own popcorn.  :)

Is there any truth to the rumor that coach Dave Hixon will replace Frank Sullivan at Harvard?

BooBallsCasRay

i have done my best to stay out of the whole VIGO-ROOKIE debate, but feel i have to chime in...

this whole thing is a great example of one insecure guy (Nahill) comforting himself by putting down another guy he thinks he is better than (Vigo)...it really is ironic though, because Rookie, aka Nahill, is pretty much a nobody on the Amherst campus.

I would like to maintain my poster anonymity so that posters here still read my completely unbiased views without knowing my true identity; but I will say that I played a sport at Amherst within the last few years, and I know Vigo well. He is in fact good friends with most of the hoops team as well as many of the other athletes, so Rookie's comments about sucking up, etc. were complete garbage. Just wanted to set the record straight.

So are you guys all saying that Jocks run Amherst and you aren't cool unless you are one?  Or at the very least friends with them?

As for Guilford/Amherst's roof, Clark has the same on the Kneller Center.  Hyperbolic parabaloids I believe are what that style is called.

I wonder who was the first to go that route.

It definitely creates interesting accoustics when the place is packed...

More importantly, whose idea was it to have one of the two hoops hanging with no shooter's background while the other one is practically up against the wall in LeFrak?  It must be somewhat disorienting.

Yeah, Guilford's is the same way.  When varsity games are played, one basket has a wall about 12 feet behind it while the other has a full court at a 90 degree angle behind it.  It's great for intramurals and big volleyball tournaments (can have three courts going the other way), but I wouldn't like the open shooter's background.  They could close a huge curtain, but they rarely do.
