So are you guys all saying that Jocks run Amherst and you aren't cool unless you are one?  Or at the very least friends with them?

As for Guilford/Amherst's roof, Clark has the same on the Kneller Center.  Hyperbolic parabaloids I believe are what that style is called.

I wonder who was the first to go that route.
I always got the impression Amherst was first, but I could be wrong.

I didnt say I wasnt friends with any athletes, just not the basketball team. They are a pretty insular group, and I never really had the opportunity to meet any of them. None of them lived in my dorm freshman year, I never had a class with any of them, and clearly we go to different parties. I have nothing against athletes in general though. Actually, I have nothing against anyone on the basketball team, I just dont like Spengler. Actually, athletes at Amherst tend to be very down to earth. I think they go so far out of their way to avoid the dumb jock stereotype that they are often the nicest people on campus. Is this the same at other nescac schools?

Anyway, does anyone know if either Goldsmith or Coulibaly are going to try to get an extra year of eligibility? If so, do you think they would have good cases?

VigoTheCarpathian

Formerbant, no.

BooBalls, thanks.

Jeffrookie, stop.

Add Dickinson College to the list:

I am not sure when it opened, but I know it was up and running back in 1989.   Looks much newer than Lefrac.  Lefrac does get very loud.  Chandler (Williams gym), while a really nice gym which provides a lot more room for spectators and is a lot more comfortable, does not really provide the same home court advantage, due to the huge ceilings and overall spacious feel.  Only when the gym is 100 percent packed does it feel loud and congested.

this whole thing is a great example of one insecure guy (Nahill) comforting himself by putting down another guy he thinks he is better than (Vigo)...it really is ironic though, because Rookie, aka Nahill, is pretty much a nobody on the Amherst campus.

So essentially you're saying that people shouldn't put other people down who they think they are better than by putting some guy down who you seem to say you're better than?

I gotta love that logic.  I'm guessing you're not pre-law.

[Edit:  This statement is not meant as an endorsement of either party in th aforementioned "ridiculous debate," but merely as a joke to point out the irony in the quoted post.]

I heard Bates is getting a big strong point guard from NH. His name is Ben Eaton and he played for Hollis Brookline in Class I basketball this year.

I'm not positive that his decision has been finalized and I am hoping that someone is more knowledgeable of the Bates incoming class and has some further input.

I only mention this because I saw Eaton play on a few occasions this year and I was very impressed with his athleticism and strength.  He appeared to be a very good leader on his team and looked ready to step right into the college game. I know a couple of NH schools weren't able to pick him up but were very interested in him.

Along with the other recruits mentioned for Bates next year (I remember someone mentioning a good sized, talented big man), it appears they could have a pretty strong class coming in to help fill the voids left by Ray and Stockwell.

I'm usually an observer on this board but being a Maine native, it'd be nice for me to see some better representation of the Maine schools in the NESCAC.

Any news on other recruits for Bates??
Bowdoin??
Colby???

nescac1

I think that is already the fifth Bates recruit mentioned ... two 6'5ish forwards, one from Mass. and one from Maine, a 5'7 point guard from Mass, and a 6'11 center who I imagine must be a major project.  Bates has a very nice group of rising sophomores as well.  Lot of young talent to replace the great senior class, it sounds like.    There is a kid Etten who is a star player at Babon who I think is from that H.S.  Could the last name be Etten?  If they are related, he could be a very good recruit b/c Etten at Babson is one of the top three players in NEWMAC.   Bates underachieved a little this year, perhaps they will surprise some folks next year when expectations are lower.

MeOak21

The name must be Etten because now that you mention it, I believe someone told me when I was watching the game this year that his older brother played for Babson.

Do you happen to remember the name of the 6'5" from Maine??? I just don't really feel like sifting through the pages looking it up...

No big deal if you don't.

nescac1

Interesting.  I've seen the Etten on Babson and he would be one of the better athletes in NESCAC.

Alex Gallant is the forward from Maine.  I'd assume he was related to the guy on Tufts, but that is a very common name in Maine.  Still, seems like a good bet.

Hoops Fan,

First, BooBalls isn't pre-anything.  He is.  Second, he isn't saying you shouldn't put down other people, but rather the judgements made by JeffRookie unto me are wrong/unfounded.  Third, if you classify the argument as ridiculous, you didn't expect there to be a line of reasoning that you would find to be not ridiculous.  Therefore, there was nothing ironic about the previously mentioned post.  Fourth, Gordon Street? Ah, yes, Gordon Street. I use to know a girl who lived there, when I was young. Not a day goes by that I don't think of that girl and the promise that I made which I will always keep. That one perfect day on Gordon Street. That's uh five blocks up, two over.

Vigo is clearly a fan of inferior sequels to landmark comedies.

In following the precedent set by Friar T, I think its time to make a few analogies concerning the posters of this board:

Hoops Fan- Danny Tanner. Really tries to be the moral guide of all the boards. All we need is that sappy music to start playing at the last sentence of every one of his posts.

Pat Coleman- Don Johnson. Aside from the uncanny physical similarities, D3Hoops is your Nash Bridges.

diehardfan- Tinky Winky. Constantly smiling, laughing at yourself, god love you!!! ;D.

Historian- Ben Stein.

JeffRookie- Britney Speas circa 2006-2007 + Anna Nicole Smith circa 2004 + Skip Bayless.

Thank you to nescac1 and MeOak21 for bringing the board back to basketball. Thanks for the recruit info.

Does anyone have an opinion that zone defense is used too much in this league given the wealth of great perimeter shooters who thrive on the zone? If my observation is correct, can anyone comment on why they think the zone is used so much? I have not seen that many guards who were so quick that they would make man-to man untenable. Any thoughts?

I actually have met that kid Nahill "jeff-rookie" before, complete loser. Isnt he in Gads?

I heard Amherst is getting a good pg from Texas. 6'2 kid. supposed to be fairly legit
