The Historian

I also feel like this is a good time to mention that the last time we had this discussion about Amherst's scheduling it seemed to turn out all right for the Jeffs in the end.

Endicott was ranked No. 207 of 403 teams this season in the Massey Ratings.

And that was a massive improvement over the beginning of the season when they were atrocious and struggling to replace floor leadership and scoring.

For what it is worth

Amherst had 15 of 25 regular season and conf tourament wins against teams with winning records.
VaWes had 11 of 23
Wash U had 11 of 20
Wooster had 9 of 25 of which 3 were against NAIA schools.

Regional strength and conference needs to also be looked at.  We all know the NESCAC only plays each other once (exception Amh, Williams and Wesleyan) and some of those wins against a couple teams if they played each other twice would probably not be there.  The NESCAC teams historically benefit overall with favorable win/loss records against regional competition.

Even given the NE region's proliferation of bad, but winning teams, that number is very surprising to me.

Well, Amherst95 did say that Endicott was "halfway decent" ... although perhaps the word "to" should've been inserted in between the other two words. :D

How do I edit?  Obviously '05-'05 s/b '05-'06.
I fixed it.... I don't know what Pat's rules are exactly, since I already had a billion posts when he transfered to this board... but I think that when you have more posts, you will get the "modify" button that most of us have.  :)

Thanks.  Right now I'm a little intimidated by your post-fixing skills.   :o :D ;)

Well . . . in the season I mentioned they were 152 of 396.

So they were "61% (to) decent" or thereabouts.

It looks like Tommy Amaker is getting the Harvard job.  It's a good hire by Harvard --  Hixon would not have been a good fit.

Don't worry, regular posters, when they become able to modify, can only modify their own posts. Only HOFers and staff have the ability to modify other people's posts. As a newbie HOFer, I was repeatedly instructed to use my powers for good, not evil. So far so good... for the most part. :D

Why would Hixon want to leave his situation?  Coaching at his alma mater, national contender for the past few years and poised to be for years to come.  Harvard won't be winning their league anytime soon let alone a national title.

Rumor is that the other finalist was a pretty big name with a Cambridge background...but I like Amaker as the choice.

The obvious possible reason Hixon might move to Harvard is money. According to the Boston Globe, Harvard's second choice after Amaker is Mike Jarvis formerly of St. John's (NY).

That was also the story in the Ann Arbor News (Amaker's local paper for the last few years), though whether they derived it independently or stole it from the Globe I can't say.  They also report Harvard-Amaker as basically a done-deal.

Glad to hear Hixon is staying. At least until the end of next season  :)

did hixon even apply for the job? if so, was he a finalist? in all fairness to coach hixon, who i believe is a very good coach, paulsen (after winning back-to-back national coach of the year, a national championship, a win against a d1 team that is comparable to an ive league team, and being younger than hixon) was only a finalist at dartmouth and brown - two schools that are slightly less desirable in terms of $ and location than harvard. in other words, given hixon's age, apparent loyalty to his alma mater, and the desire for a lot of ivy league schools to now hire minorties (new harvard president is a woman), i don't think the herst has to worry about hixon leaving anytime soon...even if he wanted to.
