As far as aesthetics go, courts are going to look ugly/funny with two arcs b/c, as I understand, the women are keeping the same 3 pt. line. However, I think it will really allow for the presence of the inside game that has really diminshed in the college game in recent years. To be honest, I don't think that 9'' is all that much for the good shooters....most shots that great shooters have to put up behind the arc are set back from the line anyways. I don't think teams like Williams or Amherst will be hurt by the new line as much as teams with dominant big men like Colby had with Cohen or Amherst has with Hopkins will benefit from the move.

I am curious to know what they will do about the corner where there is little room as is with the arc and the sideline - will they have to widen the court?

The new 3 point line  I believe does not go into effect until 2008-2009
season . This coming year the line will remain the same ?
Can anyone clarify this for me ?

Pat Coleman

Yes, it stays the same this year.

And it's actually 12 inches, not nine.

Just in****  The Jewish Sports Review a nationwide publication has named their D3
All American basketball  team   . Named to First team nation wide from the Nescac :

Drew Cohen - Colby
Jake Weitzen - Tufts

Honorable mention : Jared Ashe - Wesleyan & Ben Rudin - Middlebury

Congratulations to all

What would the joke be eclinchy ? It is a Jewish sport publication that
honored Nescac players so I wanted to share it .

Out of pure curiosity, how does this Jewish organization know which players are Jewish? Certainly, some last names are tip-offs, but even still, just b/c the father is Jewish doesn't mean the family chose to raise their children in the Jewish faith. Is this something you register as within this organization?

Either way, I think it's a little bizarre. Can you imagine if a white supremacist made an "all white team", etc. Having an all star team based on the faith of a player is just weird.

hoopjunkie

Don` t really know the answer , But Issac Rosenfelt is African american
as well as Jewish from St. Thomas also on the first team .
I just wanted to share this , did`nt mean to get anyone crazy about it .
I guess it is because the Jewish sports almanac is pretty small .

junkie,
I think you missed by point when you stated that there was an african american jewish memeber of this team. He was put on this team b/c he was jewish. To have any sort of accolade that is based on race, faith, etc. is just weird and hopefully outdated for our times. Maybe I am alone on this one but I can only imagine if there was an "all-white team", an "all-christian team", etc. they type of uproar it would cause....rightfully so I might add.

eclinchy

Hoops, I agree 100%.  This seems really weird to me.  Obviously I think Cohen and Weitzen are both great players, and they deserve recognition for it, but the idea of an all-Jew team is just strange.

Junkie, where did you see/hear about this?  I googled it and couldn't find anything.

The Historian

Amherst and other DIII schools got a little love last week from Tuesday Morning Quarterback on ESPN.com:

I had to chuckle, though, at his notion of what athletes -- or most students, for that matter -- are doing on a typical weekend night.  These are smart student-athletes, yes, but he's clearly never been to Pond on a Saturday night.

Also, sorry Williams.  You definitely got overlooked in his list of "superb academic schools" that made the DIII basketball tournament.  Or maybe not...perhaps you just didn't make the grade...hahaha.

Seems more like he left them out on purpose for hoops to use them as an example for football.

But I'm sure we all knew that.

Someone on line this past year mentioned a All - Star
game between the Nescac & UAA conferences , I think that
would be amazing . Any chance of that happening ?
I would love to see some of those matchups -

Or perhaps a list of posters whose logic runs in circles.
