Six year seniors is the wrong term.  You mentioned that Hasiuk and Taylor both took a fifth year of high school, so that, age wise, they are both two years older than the average senior, that is all I meant ....

JeffRookie2

If p.martin were coming back that would be bad news for the rest of the NESCAC. As a Jeff fan, I was really looking forward to his graduation. One of the most under rated players in the nescac, IMO.

N1, just me being picky.  Hasiuk didn't use an extra year in high school, I'm pretty sure it was 2nd grade when his family moved over from Poland.  But yes they are most likely 2 years older than most seniors.  We can just call them hockey players then.

Amherst taking their winter trip to play Florida Memorial University in Miami. They are D2 NAIA and won the Florida Sun Conference last season, giving them an AQ into the D2 NCAA tournament. Last year FMU won 8 of their last 10 games (they started the season with a dismal 2-8 record including a 34 pt loss to D1 Florida Atlantic).

I think this game (although not having an overly important impact to the D3 world) will test the Amherst team and will be a good barometer for their level of play before new years (as opposed to their first game, 63 pt win, over over Hunter on Nov 16th -- which i wish i could be at... that is the line by the way: Amherst -63 Vs. Hunter).

I'll take Amherst by 71 in the opener, with none of their starters playing more than 20 mins each. Nevertheless, kudos to Hunter for not being afraid to schedule Amherst. I think that says alot about their program, especially considering that many teams would not even consider accepting such a daunting task. On other note, some info on FMU. While they are athletic and individually talented, they aren't as cohesive a unit as Amherst, which I would attribute to their youth. I'm pretty sure they will be made up of mostly sophomores and juniors next year (think of a much better version of Conn College). Their big men pound the offensive glass, but I think they will have trouble guarding Amherst when they spread the floor. Brandeis, if they play them again, will give Amherst a better game than FMU, but then again road trips can do some crazy things to teams.

I might still take Amherst, even at +63.  It will depend on whether Hixon loses interest and forgets to sub the starters out.

All,
A former CAC player on the best York College of Pennsylvania team of all-time, Padraic K. Lee #33, has created a websire to help develop an easier way for athletes, fans, coaches, and sponsors to connect off the feild.  This could be very beneficial for top rated college players also.  We plan to have a myriad of oversea's coaches and scouts as part of our network.  For all the D3 players, like myself, to have a network to communicate with oversea's coaches would be great.  I know that making the NBA would be to lofty of a goal.  This website could help those collegiate players of any sport be able to network effectively to continue their athletic career anywhere, or anytime.
If you support the Division III sport world, please check this site out and create a profile.  ITS FREE!!!!!!!  If there are any questions or comments, please feel free to e mail the president of www.GOTatheletes.com, Pad Lee at patrick@GOTathletes.com.  Thank you,

It amazes me that throughout the summer people have posted almost every day. Gotta love D3 hoops.

I've been thinking about the upcoming season for Bates, which can comfortably called a "rebuilding" year (though with the way last year ended up going at least in-conference, I don't know that they'll be much worse). From the sound of it, the frosh class is pretty promising (the kid from Bangor is supposed to be very good, and there were two others, one from NH and one from Braintree, that looked like they had pretty sound resumes, plus the 6'10 kid that will never do anything), and last year's frosh class is a bit of an enigma. Outside of Wilson and O'Keefe, the other guys didn't even get in except for garbage time, so somebody could step up. But there are a lot of minutes up for grabs, certainly.

The no. 1 thing I'll be watching is Jimmy O'Keefe. I was expecting a bit more out of him even in his first year, which probably wasn't fair, to be honest. I never saw him in high school or anything but everything I read made it sound like he was a lock to dominate the NESCAC, given that he came from, as far as I can tell, a strong school in a strong HS league. If you're 6'6" AND you have skills (which everything I've read says he does), shouldn't you dominate? Perhaps it took him a year, or maybe it'll take another, to get used to NESCAC ball. My big problem with Jimmy was foul trouble--it seems like he had even a harder time staying on the floor than Chud, who the refs called everything on since he's enormous. Jimmy just was a little sloppy, and his scrappiness got him tangled up underneath a lot. I love his hustle, and I expect him to get better. If anyone has any thoughts on Jimmy, I'd love to hear them.

I think it's a lock that Wilson steps up and becomes the best player on the team. Wholey will score a bunch of points, but I don't think that equals being a good player. Wholey is extremely flawed both on offense and defense (he basically doesn't play defense, in my opinion). I tend to be overly critical of "shooters" (given that they get all the glory of scoring but often do little else), so maybe that's the case here, but Wholey's holes are really obvious in comparison to Bates' shooters of the past, namely Gerrity. I wasn't a big Gerrity fan, but if you compare him to Wholey, he's head and shoulders better. Wholey can't get open, changed his shooting release (oddly enough, he moved it lower), and isn't athletic enough to create his shot against NESCAC wings.

Wilson, on the other hand, seems to have a little of everything. Looks like a very good creator and solid defender; I liked what I saw. I expect Wilson to carry this team, not the way Zak did, but pretty close.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to get back to sobbing about Zak and Rob's graduation. If anyone has any thoughts on the remaining Bobcat roster, I'd love to hear them.

Hi All!

My name is William P. Bunkley and I am now your number 1 source for Williams Basketball information.

Lets start with Charlie Cates. This monster used the pre-warm-up lay-up line as his own Slam Dunk Competition. He assaulted the rim with such authority that it was a travesty he was not mentioned as a canidate for All-NESCAC All-Crazy Team. The lay-up line before warm-ups of the NESCAC Championship enabled Cates to showcase his entire arsenall. The game was really over before it started. But in seriousness, word out of the Williams camp is he had a great spring and is set to do work this year. Blake Schultz and Joe Gohegan apparently had good springs too.

Speaking of All-Crazy Team, where was Richard Martin?? Did any of you voters for All-Crazy Team actually watch warm-ups. The craziest lay-ups ever concocted.

Watch out for the EPHS.

Jake Weitzon for President!

Can`t wait for mid November when the ball goes up in the air . Anything new on the NESCAC front? Suprises? Injuries? Superstar freshman?

ephwatcher1

The Bunkster cant wait either, hoopjunkie. I'll tell you one thing- watch out for Spider Snyder from Willytown. He is my favorite Eph. Although I don't know if he could bench press my 3 year old niece, he does it all. I predict an all-conference type year. He'll be spidering all over the competition!

Now walk it out, Think about it, ahhhhh SNAP!!

This year's surprise team- Bowdoin.

Over and Out,
WB

I like Williams especially Schultz & Shalvoy . I put Shalvoy up there with Olson . Shalvoy a better shooter , but Olson can handle like nobodies business . Any other point guards in the league other then Rudin at Middlebury even in their league??

Jumbos35,

The new Wesleyan coach is Jay Johnson, Colby '03.  He was an assistant at Colby for a couple years then spent last year as an assistant at Harvard.

Olson hits em when he has to.  I wouldn't say there is a  point guard at the same level as he is.

If Pat Martin is back this year for the Bantams, and it appears he will be, then you definitely have to put him up there.
