Who are the best 1-5's in the NESCAC? I'll take a shot in the dark and say that from what I've read, Olsen out of Amherst would be the 1 but what about 2-5?

hoopjunkie

I would take Shavoy at the 2- Rose at the 3 or 4 - Weitzen at 3 or 4 & Martin from Trinity at the 5 . Obviously Olson at the 1 would be my vote for Nescac first team

GarrisonTheRegulator

Long time reader, first time poster. The reason for my first post is that I feel I have to regulate this board.

Ephwatcher- what kind of nickname is Spider Snyder??? That is quite possibly the dumbest nickname I have ever heard. ;) How about Kevin the Weapon.

Shalvoy is decidely a 1. 2 and 4 I think are the hardest positions to decide on. I would go with:

1:Olson
2:Snyder
3:Weitzen
4:Pierce
5:R. Martin

the 2 is an oddly weak position. the only true 2s that are very good are o'keefe and synder and i mostly chose synder b/c there is no way tufts can have top players at 3 of the 5 positions and still be so bad.

nescac1

2 is definitely not a terribly strong position in NESCAC.  But Hippert from Bowdoin and Harris from MIddlebury are candidates, as is Bernier from Conn College.

I'd say (1) Olson, runner-up Shalvoy, (2) Hippert, runner-up Harris/Bernier (unless you count Schultz from Williams as a 2, but he is probably more of a (3)).  Coulibaly from Amherst is probably more talented than any of them, but he hasn't really had a chance to show what he can do.

The "3" is very, very deep in the conference, as in addition to Weitzen, Rose / Schultz (who are really both 3's) from Williams, Baskauskas, R. Taylor (again, although he may have to play the 4 he plays like a 3), are all substantially better than any 2 guard in the league.

Anyone know anything about new Wesleyan interim coach Jay Johnson?

hoopjunkie

Nescac 1 , thanks for reminding me of Brian Baskauskas . That kid is awesome . he really has to be on my first 5 . With a .575 shooting pct from the field , .477 from 3 & LEADING Amherst in rebounding 5.3 .

The thing I find about our conference, is that we try too hard to categorize positions . If you`re a player you`re a player . Guys like Baskauskas from Amherst (who is really more of a guard ), Pat Martin from Trinity (Does anyone know if he is coming back?) & Jake Weitzen from Tufts ( Who is a point guard in a power forwards body) are so versitile, they can literally play & cover 3 positions.

walzy31

i almost had an aneurysm but nescac1 was a good doc and prevented me from having one.

my goodness brian baskauskas is a good basketball player.
the three all conference players from amherst this year will be hopkins, olson and baskauskas. wheeler will play the sophomore bedford role.

jon pierce is good. brandon jones will eat him up this year. unless the nescac fans think that pierce is better than adair.

who will dunk on who? matt goldsmith on chris rose? or chris rose on matt goldsmith? FALSE. goldy dunks on everyone.

how many blocks will amherst have against hunter? fletch will have 5. kev 3. holsey 2. and glennwong 1. eleven.

Garrison,

First, please do not ever respond to one of my posts
with a post of your own that has a smiley in it. Or a
winkie. Or anything that resembles a yellow circle
depicting a facial expression.

And second, please get some notches under your belt
(in terms of posting on this board) before you
question one of d3hoops true O.G.'s. I have put  my
blood, sweat, and tears into this. I do not deserve to
be questioned by a novice.

And finally, Spider Snyder will remain Kevin's
nickname for the simple fact that he spiders all over
the court. He spiders on offense. He spiders on
defense. He will spider all over you if you call him
'Kevin the Weapon.'

In conclusion, I think it is safe to say:

You've. Been. Bunked.

As an IWU fan(atic), I nearly had a heart attack before I realized I was on the NESCAC board, not CCIW Chat! :D

Sorry I can't help with Jay Johnson (now, Ron Rose, I could comment!).

Although Ephwatcher is a pimple-faced freshman moonlighting as the popcorn machine operator at the Ground Round in North Adams, even a simple Mainer was able to catch his sarcasm. I'm guessing Pat is over-juiced on testosterone from the football boards to catch the nuances of the hoops board in August. We'll try and talk slower...
