Scheduling is a two way street.

There were only two players last year thet averaged over 14 points , 7 rebounds & 3 assists per game in the whole NESCAC !! I find that to be an amazing stat .

Charles Stone - Conn College
Jake Weitzen - Tufts

They both shot over 50% from the field !!

Good job guys . Both juniors last year ,so another year to enjoy 2 real good all around players .

Update on Williams hoops:

I heard from a friend that Shultz had his knee scoped earlier this month.  He is recuperating well and is not expected to miss any games.  Paulsen may decide to bring him along slowly during preseason scrimmages.

The freshman from NYC is playing well in pick up games.  He's very athletic and scores well around the basket.

ephoops - who is the freshman from NYC you are talking about ?

Hoopjunkie:

I found the following on the Friends Seminary website:

Troy Whittington '07 became the all-time leading scorer at Friends with 1647 points. Troy will be playing basketball at Williams College this fall. The team won the A.C.I.S regular season and league championships for the third consecutive year. They finished with a record of (21-4) and qualified for the NYSAIS "B" division playoffs.

Friends Seminary is a small school in Manhattan that plays in a fairly non-competitive private school league in NYC.

I don't care how good that freshman is...I don't think anyone will be able to stay with the Camels this year:

Jumbos' schedule is up.

A couple of interesting games on the schedule, against a couple of teams from last year's NCAAs.  Worth a look...

Heard a lot of good things about Conor Meehan, the freshman guard for the Jeffs. People have seemed a little disappointed in the two posts, the Greek kid and Bennett. Apparently Bennett is not much of a shooter, but has some very strong post moves. Also, a tight end on the football team that transferred from Cincinatti is going to try out. Apparently he's huge.

I think the jeffs have enough inside strength . Who backs up Olson at point?

word on the street is marcus bradley. if you throw him into contention for the 8 man rotation though, it gets ridiculously crowded:

guards:olson, bradley, wong, carcieri

guard/forward: coulibaly, baskauskas

fowards/centers: wheeler, walters, goldsmith, hopkins, jones

If you asked me which are the best 8 players on the team, the only guard I would take would be olson. Obviously we need a least two of those guys getting minutes though, so it will be interesting to see how that shakes out.

Probably Glenn Wong, Marcus Bradley (both juniors) or sophomore DJ Carcieri.  Meehan would have to be something special to get significant playing time as a freshman.  I don't see Olson getting much rest this year.
And Jeffrookie, I assume you're referring to Reggie Fugett, who's 6'6" 236.  As for Bennett, I wouldn't really expect a freshman his size to have much shooting skill (if he did, he'd be playing D1).  Kevin Hopkins is a senior, and I wouldn't say he has much in the way of shooting skills.  However, that didn't keep him from being an important piece of the championship team, so I'm inclined to believe that Bennett will contribute eventually.  That's great that Bennett has strong post moves already.  And what's the rep on the Greek kid?  Who is he and how big is he?

Yeah, but Hopkins can shoot free throws, which came up huge against Wooster. Bennett, im told, cannot throw it in the ocean. Not sure what the Greek kid's name is, but I saw him walking into Val with Jones yesterday. Looked like he had an inch or two on Jones, but was even skinnier. I've been told that Meehan is not a true point and might play the two. Haven't heard anything yet on Ian Rothkop, but thats probably because he's busy playing soccer. Thanks for the name of the tight end. His dad was an all-pro with the redskins. Hopefully he can be an Antonio Gates but in reverse.

Watch out, you can get bitched out on this board for suggesting that Glenn Wong could play point. Been there.

lemonjello

I've never seen Wong play the point, so point taken.  I guess it'll be Bradley then, though maybe Carcieri will get a chance to be a Salerno-esque defensive stopper.

I'm betting on the later, simply because defensive stopper is the most glaring loss from last year. (Salerno, McLaughlin). So, because I'm bored, here's a three-year plan for Amherst Basketball:

This year: 9-man

PG:Olson, Carcieri
SG:Coulibaly
SF:Baskauskas, Wheeler
PF:Walters, Goldsmith
C:Hopkins, Jones

Next year:

PG:Bradley, DJ
SG:Wong,
SF:Baskauskas, Butler
PF: Wheeler
C:Bennett, Holsey

Two years:

PG: DJ
SG: Meehan
SF: Butler
PF: Wheeler
C: Bennett

Hard to say how accurate that will be, as I have never seen three of the guys in the last starting lineup play. However, there have been pretty thin recruiting classes the last couple of years, so lets hope they're good. Also, before anyone tells me that Wheeler is not a power forward, I'm aware of this, but who else do you put there?
