Well, I'm going to have to say, Pat, when you received a press release with no byline, your journalistic spidey-sense should have told you immediately who the author was and that they would want credit for something generally sent anonymously.  I'm appalled at your lack of clairvoyance.  I expect a super-human effort from d3hoops.com and sadly all we got was an above-average example of professionalism.  Dang.

Funny!
As a former D3 athlete, and currently in the coaching ranks, I must say that if an SID is griping about credit, they are in the wrong profession...no matter who's name is on (or not on) the story, I now know more about Amherst than I did before, which is what I think an SID wants to do, right? From the simplest sense?

Meanwhile, we'll certainly think twice about using any Amherst info in the future.

That may be one of the most egotistical, power-trip style things I have ever read.  I guess all D3 schools need to take notice that if you cross Pat Coleman (no matter who was in the wrong, which I believe both sides were here), your program will suffer coverage-wise.

An embarassing statement coming from the head of this site.

doesn't surprise me much...

Well, sure -- I'll have to evaluate it now, decide if they really meant to send it to us or not, attempt to determine who might have written it and how much of a fuss their friends might cause across the message boards. :)

Man, tough room. Lighten up, jscwittfan.

Pat, you will not be allowed to have the last word, so for the vast majority of us who are happy to hear what's going on in the D3 basketball world, whatever the source, please just let the Amherst information cops win!!

Didn't practice start today?

Pat Coleman

No doubt. :)

I didn't want jscwittfan's take on my post to become the prevailing opinion, that's all.

There was a man who was a peddlar. His cart was pulled by an old gray mare. In her day she had been a sight to see but now she was a bit bedraggled. The man carried a big walking stick and if the mare slowed up or if she would start to venture off course the man would give her a whack with the stick.
One day she fell to the ground upsetting his cart. He got upset and hit her with the stick and told her to get up. Then after she didn't move he hit her again
and before long he was hitting her repeatedly even though she didn't move.
A young boy came by, looked at the horse and said, "Hey Mister, this horse is dead. You can stop beating her."
"She's mine. I'll decide when she's dead," and he continued to knock the tar out of her.

Anyone else tempted to just copy and paste an introspective ARTICLE (not press release) from ESPN.com, not state the author's name, try to make light of the situation by saying that it was free for the public to use without giving credit to anyone (while making a hilarious reference that since it was a 'press release' that it's free to post without giving any credit to the author?)

Oh, and lets not forget give 10000000's of negative karma points to anyone who calls you out for it? Seriously Pat, the fact that you take away "karma" points is hilarious. When I made my previous post, I was begging that you wouldn't take away karma points. Seriously. I woke up this morning, ate a bagel, and prayed, OH PLEASE DEAR GOD, PAT COLEMAN CAN DO ANYTHING EXCEPT TAKE AWAY MY KARMA POINTS! Maybe thats how they do it in dungeons and dragons, but this doesn't help your credibility.

It's pretty much like when your little kids, and you race one of your friends(lets call him Patrice) in a 100 foot race. You notice that after 50 feet Patrice is beating you pretty badly, but instead of finishing the race and admitting defeat, you stop short with a pulled hamstring and refuse to admit that you were beaten fair and square. Then when asked for a rematch, you laugh it off and tell everyone in your class that Patrice smells like fish(real life equivalent of you taking away karma points). Poor Patrice.

Pat Coleman

Anyone with 200 posts can give or take away your karma once every 24 hours. Go through and count the number of people with 200 posts on this board who disagree with your take and multiply by the number of days since your first post on the topic. And that doesn't even take into account people who read the board buy don't post.

But yes, I definitely smited you for your attempts to paint a PR department like ESPN.com.

Any inside scoop on how the incoming Frosh (from schools except Amherst because we've heard it already) have been playing in the fall pick-up games? Any impact guys?

True indeed.  Now every time I read an uncredited article/release on this site, I'll have to stop, go to the school's website, see if it was their original work or not, and then ponder whether or not to bring it up due to the highly defensiveness and self-righteousness of one power-weilding poster.

That seems incongruous for someone who espouses being buried upside down.  Who gives a flying leap?

You really fumbled this one.  Your battle with the Historian should have happened via email or message, rather than on the boards.  The moderator of the site should probably be held to a higher standard than a random poster...mudslinging isn't very professional.

Actually it was Historian who made this a very public food fight by posting a board wide attack on Pat. I think he's entitled to defend himself in the same forum.

Did you even read the rest of the board?  It was an email sent by Amherst for media outlets to pick up and use.  There was no credit given or any indication it had been previously published anywhere.  Once that information came across, it was immediately put on the site.  How else would someone be expected to handle that, especially when there are 408 schools who do press releases exactly that way?
