I really hate to be the voice of reason more than once, but here it goes...

"Courtesy of a University of Western Alabama Press Release."

It solves EVERYTHING. You know who sent you the information, and now everyone else does too. I'll leave it alone and hopefully so will everyone else.

Hilarious posts by senatorfrost and uaapride. Just so everyone knows, the Historian doesn't smell like fish, but rather dust, old book jackets and whiskey...

Would really love to hear what other teams are bringing back, and anxious for the first yahoo to try and give their preseason All-NESCAC team...

I admit that I only had the chance to see Williams, Amherst, Tufts, and Trinity (Trinity only on a spotty d3cast) last year....

first team:

Olson (POY) - Amherst
Hopkins - Amherst
Shalvoy/Rose (one on the first team, other on the second team)- Williams
Weitzen -Tufts
Stone -Conn College

second team:
Schultz - Williams
Pierce - Tufts
Shalvoy/Rose -Williams
Baskauskas- Amherst
Taylor III/Martin (if either are eligable) -Trinity
*Hippert - Bowdoin
*Wholey -Bates
*Rudin -Midd
Have never seen these guys play in person but from word of mouth and stats alone, I could see one of them making the 2nd team if the two Trinity guys are not available

Why wouldn't Taylor and Martin be eligible???  This would be their 4th year playing college basketball and are full time students.  I think they'll be ok.

I was under the impression that Martin returning to the Bants was 50/50 due to this being his 5th year of academics (?) and wasn't sure what RTIII did with his year off- if he took classes and was done with school, etc. In that case, I happened to be more impressed with RTIII in the past but I have seen him play in the past more than Martin.

Can`t anyone whose close to the Trinity program , let the rest of us know what happening with Pat Martin & Taylor ? I think they are 2 keys if the Bants finish top 4 or bottom 4 .

A little bewildered nescac hoops how you could actually leave off the bantam's best player from the pre-season all nescac?

That's how I felt as well.  I just assumed he meant Russ Martin, last year's leading scorer...but that's what I get for assuming.

Regardless of how many Martins are in the lineup, I think the Bants will be ok this year.

i apologize. i have gotten the two martins confused and which one was at question for being a senior with eligible. i was initially referring to pat martin. i'm not sure who junkie is referring to. i thought russ was done and pat was in question of returning. or a question in my mind at least given that he was listed as a senior last year. put perhaps i have them both confused now. if you could please clarify...

if russ is returning and i have the two martins confused, i'd put him on the second team over RTIII but not if it's part martin.

I know it was Pat Martin who started in the backcourt was  listed as a senior last year. Russ Martin was a junior last year . I know Pat  transferred from BU & may have eligibility left , that is the question in my mind . Also the question is Robert Taylor who took a year off . Is he coming back ?

Here are my picks for 1st team all nescac -- pretty easy choices I think

Olson - Amherst
Shalvoy - Williams
Weitzen - Tufts
Stone - Conn College
R. Martin - Trinity

Taylor was back last year....his junior year academically and athletically.  This will be his 4th year in college.  Russ Martin as a junior last year and will be a senior this year.

As I said before, I'm sure they'll be ok this year no matter how many Martins are on the roster.

Time will tell as to whether a bunch more Jeffs and Ephs (off the top of my head, you could make a case for Coulibaly, Walters, Jones, Geohegan, Schultz, or Snyder) make the list.  Also, I'd feel remiss if I didn't throw a sleeper pick out there for Jeremy Black.  Laugh now, but I'll be waiting for my props come March.

The All NESCAC teams look pretty close. These are who will be on the two teams:

3 Amherst (Hopkins, Olson, Baskauskas)
2 Williams (Chris and Chris)
R Martin
1-2 Tufts (Weitzen, Pierce)
1 insane number producer from one of the 3 maine schools (Wholey, Hippert, sleeper)
1 insane number producer from one of 2 CT schools with losing conference records (wes / Conn)

The more important question is: Who will make the 3rd annual All-NESCAC All Crazy Team?

Being from Western Mass I know a little bit more about Pat Martin than the non Trinity NESCAC fans. Rare that "all western mass = D1 athlete."
Pat was at BU for a year and a half playing basketball. He transferred because he wasnt happy at BU for whatever reason. He had no season ending injuries so he is charged by the NCAA with 2 years played. Then he played for the Bants for two seasons, which equals four by my calculation. And if that doesn't do it for you, when Trinity beat Amherst in Hartford on senior night, Pat was one of the seniors honored in the pregame ceremony (as well as their saucy manager, Keno, and one other).
I'd be extremely surprised when the Trinity roster comes out soon, to find out that Cathedral/Minnechaug's finest is on.

I believe this is their roster this year, which includes P. Martin. Part of my confusion stemmed from thinking that this was last year's roster and that both Martins were seniors. However, given that Kino Clarke isn't on this one....I think this is the 2007-2008 roster, excluding incoming freshman. Perhaps P. Martin filed some sort of "exemption" to the NCAA allowing him to play this year?

If Pat Martin comes back to Trinity, as their website seems to suggest he will, then the NESCAC could very well have three top-ten teams in the national rankings when all is said and done. Trinity will be straight terrifying with both Martins, RTIII, Hasiuk, Westbrooks and the rest. Williams returns all 5 starters from last year's NESCAC champs and Amherst is the defending national champion that hasn't lost too much. Everybody else can start hoping for 4th. Is there any other conference in the country with 3 legitimate contenders?

Also, congrats to the NESCAC board for reaching 300 pages.

By "hasn't lost too much," I hope you mean "lost the winningest class in program history."

I'm not disagreeing with you about Amherst -- obviously, they're still insanely good -- but still, let's give credit to Wheeler/T-Mac/O'Shea/Salerno where credit is due.
