Thanks.  EC's rebuilding too; I just didn't know if they hit on some chemistry magic.

Jeff fans got their first look at Reggie Fugget last night. He is listed at 6'6 and is definitely the biggest body on the team. He transferred from Cincinnati to play tight end for the football team. In his limited action he grabbed a few rebounds, but he looked like the type of guy who might be able to provide a solid defensive presence in the post. Down the line of course... he wont play this year.

While what you say about Colby's inside presence may be true physically,
and while it is ridiculously early in the season to start a stats comparison, note that Colby is #2 in offensive rebounds, #4 in rebounding margin, and #3 in blocked shots. They had 4 starters in double figures in each of the last two games. Their assist and turnover stats may also be worthy of note. You might have placed them a little low on your rankings given their play so far.

Way, way, way toooooo early.  Until Amherst's starters play the majority of their games, stats don't really mean much.

Former Bant;

Didn't intend any comparison to Amherst; just think Colby ranks a little higher among the rest of the teams mentioned by Nescac 1

Not comparing them to anyone.  Just saying it's way too early to judge the stats....that's all.

Not disagreeing with you, I haven't seen Colby play, so I can't make a fair call on them either way.  But early season stats do not always hold up.

Congrats to the NESCAC - 3 teams in the top 10 of the first Sears Cup standings of the year.  Amherst - 1; Williams - 6; Bowdoin - 7

Does that mean that you think Amherst lacks that type of presence right now?  Size helps on the defensive end, but things like positioning, footwork and passion help a lot more.

no, but we lose our top 4 big men next year. i didnt mean to insinuate that hopkins or jones or walters or goldsmith are not good defensive players. pretty much all that leaves is holsey and the freshman, who are all unproven.

I believe that Middlebury will shoot much closer the top of the list when they add the soccer results (and Middlebury's D3 championship) to the totals.

That's fair, Hixon is definitely anticipating the loss of the senior class; there might be 18 guys on the roster.

I hate to talk about recruiting now, but since things are slow...
Unless my sources are wrong, the Jeffs got a pretty big-time recruit from the sunshine state to apply early decision (6'6 perimeter player with crazy athleticism).  He visited the weekend of the Ken Wright and apparently decided to apply soon thereafter.  Rumor has it the kid is a lower to mid division 1 prospect but is pretty serious about getting a top of the line education.  Why he isn't considering the Ivies is beyond me; maybe he wants to win.  Anyways, from the early indications, Hixon is preparing to have a pretty serious recruiting class to replace the 08's.

I believe Williams will shoot much closer to the top once all the results are tallied at the end of the spring.....like they have for the last 10yrs straight. Williams is hardly ever the top team at the end of the fall but strong swimming (men an women finish top 5 every year), track and field, basketball (men's early 2000s and women's more recently) softball, and tennis teams seem to propel to the top every year for the last 10 years. Sheehy, the Williams AD, keeps two of the trophies in his garage because they have know where else to put them.

Them "blackbird" unis sure get in the way when Sister Marie and Sister Catherine try to dribble between their legs.
