78-72 with 44 seconds left. Sloppy down the stretch for the jeffs with bad free throw shooting and lots of turnovers.
#3 for 3...good!

Timeout fest. 34 seconds left, 81-75 after two Olson free throws

Gutty comeback by the Ephs on the road to cut it all the way to 4 at one point ... Hixon went with a HUGE lineup and over-guarded the perimeter to deny the Ephs any sort of looks from 3, and Jones and Walters killed the Ephs with their size advantage.  Ephs did a fairly good job taking it to hole and drawing fouls and getting some inside buckets (although Ephs needed to do a little better from the line), but Jones/Wheeler combined 7-10 from 3 was just too much to overcome, when the Ephs had almost no perimeter game.   Jeffs hold serve, two more weeks the Ephs have their shot in Williamstown.  Paulsen will have to figure out some way to guard Jones and Walters down low with much smaller guys.

It's going to be interesting to see how teams deal with the Amherst size if Hixon keeps starting Jones, Hopkins and Walters.

Jumbos storm Wheaton for an easy win... Pierce with another double-double, he now has 82 points in his last three games... that's just sick.

Two questions for those lucky enough to catch the game out west:

1) What's the deal with Coulibaly?  He didn't play today?
2) Snyder went 0 for 7?  Seriously?  Credit to Amherst's defense, or did he just have a horrible day?

Adolphe has left the team for personal reasons.  Lord Jeff Nation will always have a special place in its heart for Dolphe the Legend.  We love him and wish him nothing but the best.

Other roster updates:  Hopkins caught a bug that has been going around of late.  He hasn't been able to keep anything down.  Might have been a reason for some of the foul trouble.

As for Snyder's 0fer, I think it was a subtle combination of good defense and an off night.

good game at lefrak. Glad to see the jeffs upset the ephs. with williams returning all the major players from last year's NESCAC championship team, the jeffs were able to hold on and win. they will be hard pressed to win in williamstown in a few weeks.

Agreed, I am not so certain it is an upset when the higher ranked team wins AT HOME.

Unless one labels it SARCASM with flashing lights, sarcasm is not easily identified on the internet.

huh? ephs had more fans and returned everyone from last year! and the jeffs were a bit shorthanded sounds like an outstanding job by the guys and coach hixon. they found a way to get it done.

big frontline jones, walters and hopkins looked pretty good. I can't wait to see how much they improve as they begin to play together more. the mobility of all three makes this possible.

williams offense gives me motion sickness. they move as much as any team i have seen. is it too much movement?

rose held to 2 points on 1-6 shooting in the 2nd half. he and all the ephs appeared a little frustrated toward the end of the game. can't we all just get along? I am sure he will bounce back with a superior game this week against lasell. the jeffs struggled against them but the ephs should handle them easily.

seriously, pg play last night was superior as usual, two of the best in the region.

Lastly, jeff win vs. ephs, good food and company at hitchcock...priceless!

on to the next opponent.

Elms, Tufts, and Bates this week for the Jeffs - likely to be a challenging week.

Elms has yet to play in a close game against Amherst, so I normally wouldn't be worried, but they just took Brandeis to OT.  The Judges needed a last-second shot to pull off the win, so clearly this is a much-improved Elms team.

Tufts-Amherst seemingly goes into OT every time they play.  I'll be very interested to see who on Amherst guards Pierce - he's quite a matchup problem and I feel like the Jeffs don't have many great on-ball defenders this season.
