Wow, lot of old ppl (that's short for people, oldtimers) on this board.  Well let the Bunkster bring you boys up to date. After playing an uncharacteristically poor game against AmWorst, the Ephs bounced back against Lasell. They only beat them by 10 pts. (points, keep up) but it wasn't about the score. It was about the first half statement.

After dunking the ball about 3 times in the last 4 years, the Ephs completed 4 monstrous jams in the FIRST HALF against an athletic Lasell team. 4 in the HALF!! All without the athletic phenom, Troy. That type of response is what the Ephs have been lacking for a while now. They've got a chip ladies and gentlemen (or should I say senior citizens), and that's a scary thing for the rest of the NESCAC. We'll see if they can keep that chip in Canada (or Maine if you want to get technical) this weekend. If they do, Trinity, Amherst weekend is going to be very interesting.

You've been Bunked!

Hasn't the NESCAC been a playing conference since only about 1999?

What kind of chip?  Does it have ridges?  Is it a pringle?  If it is sour cream and onion then it could be of use.  I always hated guarding kids with bad breath.

Amherst dominating early on... 30-13 lead with five minutes left in the first.  Tufts went up 10-8 then Amherst went on a 16-0 run.  All of the Jeffs' first 26 points came from the four bigs... Hopkins has 12.

For those who follow the women's side, it's tied at 26 with a minute left in the first half.

Weitzen with 8 points in 3 minutes... Jumbos within seven, 40-33, 17 minutes left.

Ephs about to lose to Bowdoin.  Ugly performance by everyone on Williams except for Shalvoy and Snyder, who both shot the lights out.  Rose 0-10, Schultz 0-4, not going to win many games that way.  Bowdoin outworked the Ephs on defense and the boards.  For once, I thought Paulsen was outcoached.  He did a lot of trapping early, which tired the Ephs out, and led to a fair number of layups by a Bowdoin team that lacks a ton of one on one players, plus also allowed for a lot of offensive rebounds.  Bowdoin hit a number of tough shots towards the end of the shot clock which demorilized the Ephs, especially the guards Hauser and Defeo who were both very hot from outside.  Ephs did not exploit the size advantage they have, barely looking inside.  Williams faces another long road trip to Colby, but they will have to muster a lot more energy tomorrow than they did today.  Bowdoin doesn't have anyone who wows you individually but they played very hard, played good D, and played very well as a team.  IN control the whole game, for the most part.

Final:

Bowdoin 78 Williams 73

Hippert did not play for Bowdoin . . .

going back briefly to the greatest NESCAC conversation, I think talking about the last few years Petrie at Bowdoin at the 3 really has to be thrown into the conversation. He was really a great player, but he didnt have any help.

Rick Vaughn

Rose has not been even close to the same player he was in his sophomore year.  His shot is very inconsistent and it seems that he is either ice cold like tonight or very hot. It seems like there is hardly an in between and that the very hot nights are against weaker competition.

Wow....checked out that Bowdoin team tonight...they were in control of Williams the whole game...True Shalvoy scored 30...but it seemed that hauser outplayed him, the way he dished out his assists and controlled the game...everytime it seemed that Williams was trying to make a run, they bears always responded with big baskets the whole game...despite being undermaned (missing their leading scorer hippert) the polar bears really came together as a team (Jackson, Lane, Reid-Sturgis, Fliegal, Phillips, Defeo, Sargeantson).... they are a legit threat to any team in the county...Another fun game coming up between Middlebury and the Bears tomorrow....will be a good matchup...As for Williams I do expect them to rebound and come back tomorrow to beat the Mules...As for Bowdoin regardless of what happens tomorrow this team deserves to be ranked in the top 25

Looks like Bowdoin is legit, and should be taken seriously.  Kudos to the poster who has been plugging them all along.

Pat Coleman

And to the voter who gave them a Top 25 shout-out this week.

I think Bowdoin has been greatly underestimated and I'm excited to see them when they come to lefrak, BUT couldn't this also mean that Williams was vastly overrated?  The rankings said they were the 4th best team in the country, but I think they are closer to being the 4th best team in the nescac

any details about the jeff/jumbo game?

lemonjello

Jeffs won 79-68
a balanced scoring effort from the Jeffs
Olson had 13 points, 5 boards and 6 assists.
Baskauskas with 17 points and 4 boards
Hopkins had 14 points and 2 boards (how a 6'10 guy gets so few rebounds is beyond me).
Jones had 13 points in 19 minutes, and pulled down 5 boards.

For the Jumbos:
Pierce had 18 points and 10 rebounds, though he only made 6-11 free throws.
Weitzen had 22 points and 4 boards.
Beyel had 15 points and 3 rebounds.
Gallant had 9 points.
No other Tufts player had over 2 points.
