Apparently it's media day for the Bobcats. :)

Here's today's Tufts Daily

Wholeheartedly agree with the "Joe Reilly is a nice guy" sentiment out there.

But e why are you not  writing about the Tufts players .I have aways had a problem reading the Tufts daily about other teams in the Nescac . I hear enough about them here .We are the only school who talk more about our competition then our own school .
Even in the game reviews you give more coverage on the opponents . It is bizarre!Do you think you will read about Tufts in Trinity or Amherst or any other schools paper ? They hardly even mention our scorers in game recaps !! They are so many interesting guys on the Jumbos . Who care about Bates !! Write about us .

You have to fill a daily paper with something. If it were a weekly paper that would be one thing.

I am!

Over the past three years, here's how many times I've written an article quoting a Tufts player:

Weitzen 13
Shepherd 12
Kumf 7
Pierce 4
Black 4

Compare that to the rest of the NESCAC... off the top of my head, it's Shalvoy 2, Olson 1, Martin 1, Wholey 1, a few other 1s.  If anything, I'm biased in the other direction.

Here's the thing.  Inside the NESCAC is a separate beat from the Tufts basketball beat... I've taken to writing more NESCAC stories because I've got more experience following the league than the other basketball writers we have.

There hasn't been a drop in the amount of Tufts coverage you see in the paper.  It's not a tradeoff between Tufts coverage and Bates coverage -- would you rather see Bates or nothing?

Depends on the opponent.  If it's UMD, and they're No. 2 in the country, then yes.  If it's Babson or Clark or WNEC, absolutely not.

Not really a fair comparison... Tufts has the only daily newspaper in the NESCAC.  We have more room for feature stories like this.  And judging from the hit counter on CollegePublisher, there's a lot of demand for them.

Quote from: hoopjunkie on February 14, 2008, 05:00:59 PMWho care about Bates !!

You do!  You posted about them yesterday. :)

I do.  All the time.

Anyway I hope no one else is upset about the extra NESCAC coverage in the Daily these days.  Didn't mean to offend anyone.

I think it's kinda cool that you write about some of the other schools.

Seeing as though it is a daily paper and you need to fill the space, why not write about some of your opponents.  Chances are somebody at Tufts knows some of the players at Bates and enjoyed the article.

We're all NESCAC guys in the end...no harm in showing some love to the other schools.

I love you FormerBant

Its getting closer to the final weekend in the NESCAC, now I know the tournament is coming and anything can happen, but what are people thoughts/emotions about their preseason predictions of the NESCAC regular season and the actual outcome (biggest surprises (team/individual), disappointments (same), who's the most dangerous team heading into the tourney? Let's get some chatter here

Could someone tell me where to check out this all decade team that's been the talk of the town? Thank you in advance.

Front page.

and if not there, daily dose post should have link to it

atnwriter

Thanks I found it . I looked for it earlier on the front page and must have missed it .

eclinchy,

I can't believe you're being criticized for going the extra mile and writing about other conference teams in your local newspaper. Most fans would welcome the opportunity to learn something about the opponents their team is going to play. I wish you were writing for my local paper. We don't even get the scores of the other teams' games in our conference half the time. Those guys doing the complaining don't realize a good thing when they've got it.

For the NESCAC tourney I'll take Amherst and leave the entire field to anyone who is foolish enough to take it.

frank,

Since you're taking the odds on favorite, what odds are you giving?

frank uible

The field outnumbers Amherst 7 to one and ought to be the side of the bet giving odds.

It doesn't work that way...unfortunately.

Amherst to Win the NESCAC +100
The Field to Win the NESCAC +500

The odds would increase in most cases if you single out a particular non-Amherst team to bet on.

FormerPolarBear

What kind of odds are you giving if I just pick two non-Amherst teams? I like Bowdoin or Trinity to win it all this year.
